I just set up my 55 gallon hexagon acrylic tank. I added the chemicals and everything and im letting the water circulate for a couple of days. I was just wondering if it's normal to have alot of small bubbles on the side of my tank and on the plastic plants. I am going to get african cichlids from lake malawi. I just tested my water and everything was fine, the temperature is fine and everything. I just want to make sure about these bubbles. Thanks for your help.

moreResolved Question: 46 55 or 90 Gallon Aquarium : What are the differences ?
I want to get an aquarium.I watched videos on Youtube , at first it was a 46 gallon then 55 then 90 then 180 gallon.
Would a 180 gallon be overkill ? I live in an apartment.
Iam thinking on a 46 gallon , because the ones I seen fit my budget. But the 90 and 180 had alot more room for the fishies.
Would a 46 gallon be good enough ?
Bowfront or Rectangle ?
Acrylic or glass ? How much lighter is acrylic ?
How much is a average price for a COMPLETE 46 Gallon Acrylic Bowfront system ? (Not including fish) $300 $400 ?
Are there hidden monthly or weekly costs to caring for and maintaning a 46 gallon tank ?
I am looking into fresh water fish , I like the colorful ones also silver sharks and crabs.
What are the best websites that sell aquariums that have alot of information too ?
Thanks
moreResolved Question: What is the most efficient way to heat a large terrarium (for hermit crabs)?
I recently got a very good deal on a watertight 90 gallon aquarium - just $40 since they thought it was 55 gallons - and I need to plan an efficient terrarium for a colony of hermit crabs.
The tank is 2ft tall and in some places the sand may be up to 8 inches deep. My first inclination is that heat lamps will not be a very effective nor very efficient approach to maintaining 72-80 degrees.
I currently have a 29 gallon tank with a red incandescent night light and an under-tank heater which keeps the sand warm. At that depth it doesn't have a huge effect on the air temperature and I don't feel that it's particularly safe, especially with no thermostat regulation.
Another option is to keep the water heated. Will one large fresh water and one salt water pool heated to 78 degrees help to maintain a good air temperature? Also, if the pools were adjacent, would I be best to divide them with glass, acrylic, or something else (ideally for the purpose of only requiring one heater and relying on some heat transfer).
I am primarily concerned with energy usage and effectiveness. The tank has a divided acrylic lid which allows airflow while keeping the humidity up as well.
Thank you, this will help to decide whether I should keep it or reframe it (the frame has been melted in a few places) and sell it for a $60 profit in the hopes of finding a smaller alternative. Also, as a clarification, the hermit crabs will be kept either in the living room or in an extra bedroom in my apartment which will be evenly heated to around 70 F, so intense heating should not be necessary. The temperature in the current 29 gallon ranges from 70 to 80.
moreResolved Question: 50-55 gal aquarium for 4" angel fish - 15"x36" vs. 12"x48", which is better?
I've got 4 angel fish in a 40-gal aquarium right now and they have clearly outgrown it. I'm going to upgrade to a 50-55 gal aquarium. But I have two acrylic tanks I'm looking at, one is 15"x36", the other is not as deep much somewhat longer, 12"x48". Both are 20" high.
What is better for the fish?
1. The tank that's not quite as wide, but a few inches deeper to the back, giving them a decent swim range in all directions, or
2. The tank that's not as deep but much wider, giving them a longer swim range in one direction, but not as much range back to front?
(Ideally I would love to get a much larger tank like a 100 gallon 60"x18" for example, but over the past 4 years I've been progressing from an original 10-gal (with 2 gold fish), to a 30-gal (mix of tetras and guppies), to the current 40-gal (just the 4 angels, that started as 1" and are now 4" each), and I'm not too keen on growing it too much larger all at once. I'll get there... but just not now. And yes, I fully agree, larger tanks actually take less work to maintain.)
Would love to hear from experienced aquarium owners about the size options and which seems to work better for fish of this size.
Thanks! There actually IS a formula, that generally says 1" of fish per gallon, but I think it's up to 1" per 3 gallons for more territorial fish.
One of them is actually 6" big as has established herself as the boss... and the other 3 are between 3" and 4". They are all a little territorial and have their spats.
I was thinking that maybe the longer tank would give them more security for territoriality... if big momma is on one side and the next big one has declared her territory 3' away on the opposite side, they'd be happier than being 12" apart.
Based on the old saying, fences make for good neighbors, I wonder if they make fences for fish tanks?
LOL.

moreResolved Question: Aquarium Weights and Furniture?
I need some help on this issue, because right now, our turtle tank is on a table. Which, certainly isn't the sturdiest, and is kinda old and abused. It's holding the tank fine, but I'm worried it will someday collapse. I found out that an approximate weight for a 55 gallon filled aquarium is 625 pounds, but ours is tricky cause it's only half full of water and has like..40 pounds of gravel in it..
I also have a goldfish aquarium on my dresser, which apparently as a 29 gallon should weigh about 330 pounds, but it's acrylic, which is of course much lighter than glass, and only has like 10 pounds of gravel in it. I'm thinking about moving it to my other dresser, cause it'd fit better, but ever since finding out the weights, I'm scared about having these tanks on anything but something solid like steel o.oAnd my biggest cause for concern is my dream 75 gallon aquarium I should be getting for my birthday. My plan was to have it on my dresser, cause it would fit on there perfectly, which of course, would look amazing. But those apparently weigh 850 pounds, and with all the sand and rocks for my moray..I imagine that'd be even more.
So my question is..how can I tell if something is sound enough to support so much weight?

moreResolved Question: Do acrylic aquariums always need full base support?
I have read in several places that the bigger acrylic aquariums need to be supported on the entire base, and not just along the edges like glass tanks.
I am planning to use a stand with center brace for a standard 48", 55 gallon acrylic aquarium. Is this a safe thing to do?
