Open Question: acylic liquid turning yellow?
i've bought the rio pop acrylic nail kit because i find its easier than buying everything seperate, but i don't use the 'pop' nails i use the tools to do the acrylic nails the salon way but when i apply the acrylic to my nail a couple of hours when is properly dried and everything it goes yellow. is there anything i can do to stop it going yellow? or is this because it's for the 'pop' nails and i'm not using them ? p.s if your not sure what i mean by pop nails it's a see-through plastic nail where you apply the acrylic then put it onto your nail to get 'perfect smooth acrylic without bumps' but i find it easier the salon way.
moreVoting Question: Fluval Osaka 260 - no lid issue?
Hi All,
I'm new in this forum and quite new fish keeper as well.
I want to upgrade to a bigger tank now and was thinking about getting Fluval Osaka, as the design is stunning and I simply love it.
The only problem I can think of is lack of the lid.
Does anyone have any experience of that?
I'm not worried about fishes jumping out etc - what worries me is the high level of water evaporation due to open top and the amount of pollution that might get into the water (dust etc.).
I've read that some people were trying to fix it by ordering cut to size sheets of acrylic or other plastic materials - but does it really work? If the length of the aquarium is more than 100 cm - I’m worried that the plastic might bend under its own weight.
I’d appreciate any advice.
Many thanks.

moreResolved Question: Recommend to me a good Salt Mill that works...?
Please can you recommend to me a good Salt Mill that works? And also let me know where I can buy that particular type you're recommending here in the UK?
I like salt to be coarse not too fine and I always use pure organic sea salt without any additives.
I have tried a few different ones so far, mostly hand twisting ones and none of them work properly and hardly much salt comes out the bottom of the mill.
The first ones I got from Asda which were wooden ones and they stopped working. In fact they started giving me shavings of white plastic but no salt!
Then I have tried some slightly more expensive ones from Tesco with metal tops and acrylic bottoms so you can see how much salt or pepper is remaining inside. These also don't work very well and its such an effort to get little salt out of it.
Are there actually any Salt Mills out there that work and do the job they're meant to?
I did also get a battery powered one from an online store before I got any other types, but unfortunately it didn't have any instructions and there was no way of opening it up to put salt in, or batteries even! It certainly flumaxed me anyway it was worse than a rubix cube. That was all metal and quite big. Had to send it back in the end because I couldn't figure it out! What a nightmare just to get pure salt.
So if you can make a recommendation and a place I can buy one from that works I'd appreciate it. Think I'd like a battery powered one that is easy to use and does the job. I'm quite willing to pay a few bob for it as long as it works.

moreResolved Question: name of glue to stick acrylic together?
i used this glue at school, to stick pieces of acrylic together but i cant remember the name as it was some scary name and my brain was turning to mush smelling the fumes..
it sets very quickly
it doesnt need to be held under tension, but better if it is
i think it melts the plastic together and fuse them together
my teacher was going ballistic because i took the lid off and left it like that, she told me, when i use it, to lift the lid, take the paintbrush out, put the lid back on, apply the glue to my plastic, take the lid off, put the paintbrush back in and put the lid back on. and it did smell pretty strong
it was a clear colour
it was in a scary silver bottle
and i think the name had "thermo" somewhere...
can anyone help? thanks to all!!!! (sorry for the lame description)
moreResolved Question: What fish tank should I buy as a present for my husband who used to keep tropical fish?
It's my husband's 30th birthday next month and I hope to buy him an aquarium as he used to keep tropical fish tank, but hasn't for the last few years I know he'd like to start back up again. This way he can get the tank on his birthday and start cycling it as I would't know where to start.
My question is, what tank should I get? I know he wouldn't expect a tank like his previous one (a metre long monster!) so I need something small and not cheap looking that will house some guppies (male/female) neon tetras and a cat fish so definitely not a big tank, just good quality. I know the likes of the fluval edge (which I really like) aren't great as they're too small, so what size would I need to keep the fish I know he'd like?
I've been to a few independent stores, and petsathome etc, and they all seem to have quite similar tanks - some do look quite plastic-y and I don't like the biorbs because of the acrylic in them.
Thank you for your advice!

moreResolved Question: Applying acrylic to nails?
I have recently tried applying acrylic over my natural nails to strengthen them - without using tips or a nail form.
They looked great but after a few days most of them popped off!
I made a second attempt but the same thing happened...
I used a primer base coat, then applied a layer of acrylic powder/liquid to the entire nail before filing and bufing smooth.
When the acrylic came off it resembled a plastic false nail - (just to give some description of how thickly I applied it...)
I have tried youtube for tutorials but can't seem to find any that show coating a natural nail with acrylic without artificially lengthening it - I can't see there would be much difference between the principle of applying the two, but I must be doing something wrong!!
Any suggestions anybody?
Thanks!

My rebate is quite small (2mm wide but 6mm deep) all round, so I plan to use acrylic sheeting, held in with Glazing Sealant.
1. Is this the best solution?
2. do I have to leave a gap on the 2mm rebate to allow the sealant to penetrate?
3. Is heat loss significantly dependent on thickness - i.e is 4mm significantly better than 3mm or 2mm.
4. I could I suppose fit 6mm thick to fill the depth - Is this a good idea?

moreResolved Question: Respraying plastic motorcycle panels?
I am in the process of rebuilding a Suzuki TS50 for a friend. I do not know the age of the bike but I'm guessing something like 20-25 years old.
I have a reasonable amount of experience in spray painting, both nitrocellulose and acrylic 2 pack on metal panels, mainly cars. The fuel tank is metal so I have no problem refinishing that; the question I have is regarding the plastic parts, mudguards, side panels etc etc. The bike has stood in the sun for many years and the surface has deteriorated and left a thick crust of degraded grey plastic.
Removing the crust is no problem, it just scrapes back to reveal the original yellow colouring of the plastic.
I have no idea what paint to use on these parts. They are all fairly flexible and I am concerned about the new finish cracking and peeling. Anyone got any experience of this sort of paint job? Any suggestions for what type of paint to use? Any special primer required to bond to the plastic? Any help and advice would be appreciated.

moreResolved Question: Where in the UK can I get big (365cm x 100cm) sheets of acrylic/perspex or other plastic glass?
I have some really huge watercolours on silk that I want to put on the walls. Instead of framing them, I saw on some websites that they could be sandwiched between two pieces of acrylic then mounted to the wall with tubular fixings but so far I haven't found a single place that has large enough sheets of acrylic/perspex.
I would prefer somewhere that can supply the entire display in custom sizes (I have two of the enormous watercolours and several smaller ones) but otherwise I could get the fixings myself so they would just have to cut the sheets the right size and and drill holes for the fixings.
I am based in London, UK so will need a company that can deliver here.
Any help appreciated!

moreResolved Question: need help: plastic paint job on my motorcycle fairing?
hi, it is my first time working with plastic and would like to finish respraying my fairing which has been grazed back to the shiny black showroom finish it once was. i have already:
- removed any rough/loose paint from the scratches
- applied high build primer into the deeper scratches, filled them in stages building up the thikness every 20 mins
- left the primer to harden 24hrs and then lightly wetsanded it using 600 grit paper to a smooth flat finish and carried out the wetsanding all over the rest of the panel and left to dry and removed any dust.
- i purchased hycote acrylic grey primer and and applied a few thin coats every 10-15 mins interval and once done left it to dry 24hrs and wet sanded it again in prep for the the black paint
- then i got some carplan acrylic gloss black spray paint and sprayed in light, even, alternate horizontal and vertical strokes and allowed the surface to become tacky between coats (10 mins) left it to dry.
HERE IS WHERE THE PROBLEM LIES, i dont know the next step from here...if i were to describe the finish it is like a dry black finish, hardly the super shine expected from a gloss paint. what do i do next from here, please anyone?
do i spray clear lacquer to bring a shiny finish or do i just use a finer 1500-2000grit paper and buff with some sort of compound? or do i do both, spray laqcquer and wetsand the clearcoat and buff to a finish??? im confused.com.
i apologise for long read, any suggestions, products or techniques are very welcome.
thank you in advance everyone :)

I had my ears pierced at 1.6mm at the end of May and was told by the piercer to wait a month or two before starting to stretch my ears to allow them to heal, which I did.
Over the past few months I have stretched my left ear fine from 1.6mm up to 3mm then 4mm and have had no problems at all apart from when using the 3mm taper it started to smell but as soon as I started using the 4mm I had no problem at all.
The problem I have is with my right ear which I streatched from 1.6mm to 2.5mm up to 3mm and while wearing the same 3mm taper as I did in the left my ear got really sore and while I was at V Festival for the weekend filled up with liquid and when I took the taper out to clean the piercing the skin inside seemed very fragile and bled a tiny amount as I wiped it. I left the 3mm taper in for a few weeks after it stoped filling up with fluid and then stretched up to 4mm a few days ago thinking that the problem could be with the matreial the 3mm taper is made of (plastic/acrylic) due to the same kind of thing happening with the left ear. My right ear does not smell anymore with the 4mm in and the only thing wrong is it still having fragile skin inside the piercing so I was wondering if I should downsize and get a different 3mm acrylic taper just incase it did rip (which I really dont think it has as its only a tiny about of blood), or whether I should get a 4mm stainless steel tunnel/tube in hope that the stainless steel will help the skin become stronger as I know acrylic isnt too good for long term use.
