Open Question: PLEASE HELP ARTISTS! What the heck are acrylic mediums?

Okay, so I am currently learning about acrylic mediums in my college level painting class. I am not a painter and even after reading the entire chapter on the subject of acrylic mediums, I still cannot connect everything. 1. ) When they say "mediums" do they mean types? Like imagine standing in a general art store in the acrylic aisle. You see those little bottles of acrylic paints that are used for craft purposes and they are usually more liquidly than let's say professional paints next to it, which is more thick and gel like. Now are those two different mediums? The liquid type and the gel type? Or is it just that the craft brands are crappy and aren't as thick and it has nothing to do with what mediums they are. 2.) If not, than what if I buy a set of regular professional-grade paints, they have no medium? They are just acrylic color; therefore, I must add the medium in later? 3.) My book talks about adding these mediums... So what's that about? Are they all clear? Can you combine them on your palette with your professional grade tubes of paint like mixing color? 4.) Can you buy them pre-colored (like the first question above)? For example, I want really, really thick paint for texture/relief, something like modeling paste. Can I buy acrylics paints (color included) that are already this thickness and labeled modeling paste? Or is the only way to achieve this is combining it myself? 5.) Also, what's up with glazes? Are the another area of mediums? Or something different? 6.) Kind of distant from those questions: What gives some mediums tooth? Resolved Question: Are the fumes from acrylic paint mixed in a Pepcid (stomach acid reduction medication) bottle dangerous?

I needed a small shallow dish to mix a few colors of acrylic paints. I didn't have a lot of time beforehand and with the hectic day I've had I didn't really think about it before going for it...I grabbed the lid from a bottle of pepcid, and, forgetting to rinse it out beforehand, used it to mix a few colors of paint in it, just the basic glossy acrylic for model kits, normally they don't bother me, the fumes, just a funny smell, but this oddly had a weird scent and I was too distracted working to think but... I noticed something was wrong when I stood up and fell down. Anyway...still feeling a little dizzy, about an hour later, not as bad as then but still kinda light headed. Just how many brain cells did I permanently fry? more

I am a sophomore in high school in Canada. Here are my extracurricular activities : - Debate club (I plan to go to nationals) - Mock trials - potentially Model UN - Science Fair (trying to get to Canada wide science fair / intel ISEF) - Band (flute) -Piano (conservatory for the past 7 years) - Choir - Taekwondoe - Badminton/cheerleading As for volunteering, I haven't had the chance to get to that much due to the fact that I've been moving around the country a lot. But now I am settled in one place and plan to volunteer at the hospital and possibly do some humanitarian work. I am going to be taking the IB diploma (basically with the same challenges if not more as AP program) for grade 11 and 12 and my overall average is around 95 %. I plan to apply to Pearson college of the pacific (IB all expense paid school in BC, look it up). That means that if I get accepted, there is a grade 12 and "13"/pre-university thing. But again, there is a big chance I might not get accepted because there are only 200 students in that school. I plan to work hard and give more than 100 percent of my efforts in everything I do. I know that getting the super good marks and extra curricular stuff is already set on the table for me. But according to what I've read, I need something that makes me stand out and "special" But I can say with confidence that I am intelligent, intellectual, caring, athletic, humble and hardworking. My hobbies include lots of art, ( drawing and acrylic painting). As for what I want to do as a career, I am still unsure. But some careers would be scientist, doctor (surgeon), neurologist, oceanographer, humanitarian (part of the UN). Things that are unlikely but I might explore are being a lawyer or politician. Most the sciences though for me. As a side note (if this matters), I am an existentialist and an atheist. I speak 4 languages fluently (french, punjabi, hindi, english). I know some of you will say I don't know my GPA or SAT scores yet but academics is no problem at this point. Basically, what I want from you lovely people are suggestions of what I could do to make myself be more special or stand out for these universities. I am repairing a stove kettle, and want to lacquer the handle. Will regular hycote acrylic stand the heat. I think it will, as this part of the kettle doesnt get that hot.its already sprayed with high heat paint which i bought...but its matte :( .. i was just hoping i could get away with regular acrylic.. I think it will be ok though. Resolved Question: can marker at bus stop be used as evidence?

my bf was on his way home from work at 4.30 in the morning.. he was at the bus stop and got up and walked towards the street to see if the bus was coming since the street is curved and noticed that an undercover cop was at the light and stayed there even though two or three green lights passed.. he goes back to the bus stop and sits down and the cop goes on the green but does a u-turn and goes to where my bf was sitting.. he gets out the car and asks him how he was doing and then asks him to stand up as he is being arrested.. my bf asks for what and the uc just answers youre being arrested.. he searches him and is now using my messenger bag which was in his possession as evidence.. theyre calling it a tagging bag bcuz it had dried acrylic paint on it (i am an artist and like i said bfore its my bag and i usually use it for my ink supplies) and his wallet is also being used as evidence even though it just has his writing on it saying his name as they searched the area they at first didnt find anything but then suddenly found a marker.. he is now facing charges of felony vandalism.. can that marker be used against him even tho it wasnt in his possesion at the time of the arrest?? and if not should the bag and wallet be enough evidence against him for the case to stick?? the arresting officer also didnt read him his rights.. i know that the officer can just as easily say that he did what is most likely going to happen at his arraignment date?? he is pleading not guiltyi literally have not left anything i was there when it all happened my bf looked out in the middle of the street looked at the bus stop sign to see the schedule and sat down i put down what happened so i could get the best possible answers and i understand that leaving bits and pieces out of the story would greatly affect the answers.. my bf heard the uc telling the sheriff at the staion "i thought i saw him writing when i was at the stop and when i came back sure enough it was him" the sheriff literally didnt see anything though more

Resolved Question: Nonsense write ups at work, help?

I work in food service at a retirement home and the supervisors are enough to put me into that home. Everyday we have "stand-up" where a supervisor recites a bible verse and the supervisors and the boss, along with the servers are all in the kitchen. This is basically "judgement" time, where they can critique you on work uniform and if your hair isn't the right way, or you have gum- they write you up. My first write up was before I was on the clock and I was on the phone with my sister. (**Note- before I clocked in..) One of the supervisors saw me and reported me. My second write up was not too long ago and it was about a tardy from 2008, and 2 call in sicks in April. They moved the time-roll back for absences. I asked my supervisor why I'm getting written up for something from 2008 and he commented "I honestly have no idea." But like a good person, I signed the paperwork. The next write up I will be suspended. So, I am almost sure to get written up again. I spend 300+ dollars from Prom, including getting my nails done. (Acrylics) A girl that I work with told me that our boss wrote up 23 people in one day for having their nails done because she does not allow nails or nail polish. I spent a good amount to get them done. Personally I think they look stunning rather than unpainted fingernails. The girl that told me this also got written up, with a supervisor attempting to rip off her nails before she began working.. Which was very unsuccessful and probably very painful. I just do not quite understand this policy. They aren't really "supervising". They seem to be looking for a single fault we make, and write us up for it. Sometimes the supervisors will spy from another side of the building's windows and write down notes about us. Please tell me what I should do, and if I should begin looking for a new job. Resolved Question: How to remove Waterproof Tile Adhesive from an Acrylic Bath tub?

Hi, I have recently been re-modeling my apartment and specifically the bathroom. Whilst re-tiling it i had to spend a long time standing in the bath tub to reach certain walls. Unfortunately some of the adhesive found its way through the dust sheet i had put down and i'm left with a 5x5cm blob of adhesive stuck to the bottom of the tub. Does anyone have any ideas of how to remove this without damaging the bath tub? Thanks more

My nails are as thin as paper and so matter what I do I can't get them to stop breaking and snagging on my clothes. I cant stand it when my nails are short either. I was thinking of getting acrylic nails because I think they look really pretty but I've heard they can ruin your real nails. My aunt told me that they never ruined her nails and she gets them all the time. Should i get them? Will my nails ever recover if I decided to stop getting acrylics? more

Resolved Question: Help with choosing the right fabric?

Hello everyone! What I want to do, is to convert an old quilt of mine into a play mat for my girls. Because my youngest especially has a huge problem with dust and I thought that an old quilt thrown on the floor (just re-covered) would be better that a rug or small carpet (I have tiled flooring). Because my old quilt fits in my washing machine (its a cheapy synthetic), so every night I can just roll it up and put it in the cupboard and on the weekend I can wash the cover. And the quilt is just heavy enough that it doesnt slip or gather up when you jump about on it or play on it, because we tested it out. hhaha But what type of fabric should I recover it with? First I thought a curtain fabric with a kiddy design, because it would be weightier and thicker and stand the test of the play and constant cleaning. But then I thought maybe an oilcloth or acrylic coated coated to stand the test of all the spills --- in general I wont let them eat on the play-mat but you know how kids are, they might bring over their sippy cups or smoosh a biscuit here and a piece of banana there when I don't see. And then finally I thought maybe even PVC to make it almost like a little gym mat.....but I was afraid that might be too difficult to work with because I am a real amateur at sewing, but sewing in straight lines with simple fabrics and simple stitches....I can do. I mean if I go back to my first choice...the curtain fabric, I guess I could just wash it every week...wont hurt....I could even cover the quilt first in rubber sheeting cover and then cover it with the new cover I make out of the curtain fabric. Or the oilcloth.....would that stand the test of most spills and mess....meaning with most of it I can wipe it off and it wont penetrate to the actual quilt.....or will it not catch everything. Resolved Question: Is my 72 gallon bow front aquarium tempered glass?

I got a 72 gallon bow front aquarium off craigslist, it is scratched but i will buy a glass scratch remover. and i want to install a over flow/ sump returns but there are a few set backs... i know the tank was built on May, 1998 as the stand has a stamp that said so and the stand went together with the tank. It is a 4' Long, 22" high, 18" deep bow front aquarium, it is glass not acrylic.I asked the lady is she knew the manufacturer she bought it from, but she said it was loo long ago and couldn't remember. There is a sicker on the bottom of the tank that says this... "THIS BOTTOM IS TEMPERED GLASS FOR STRENGTH AND RELIABILITY DO NOT DRILL" Now i know the bottom is tempered, but are the sides? Well i need to know if the back is tempered glass, because i want to drill it and add a overflow, and two returns. When i hit the glass with my hand, the bottom and the back sound different. The tempered glass is a deeper sound, and the back "not sure" glass is a higher sound. Also the glass looks just shy of about 1/4" thick, can i still drill it with a diamond drill bit? Thanks in advance.UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE!!! I found a site online and it said you could check if glass is tempered with an LCD screen. Tempered glass will make the screen appear to have lines, regular glass wont. well the bottom had lines, the front bow front had lines, and the back and sides did not have any lines, a nice gray screen. that's it. So this is getting ma a little more exited. What do you think. more

I've posted the first paragraph but I've added more and would like feedback. Don't be too mean, I'm only thirteen. Sticking down the photo of Carson and me, I notice Sophie examine the picture with interest. Looking at me with her liquid blue eyes, she says “Caitlin, is that your Dad? You look like him”. I shake my head, telling her no. She furrows her eyebrows, but carries on with her own montage. I continue pressing down the various pictures I’ve collected for this project, my eyes keep wandering back to the one of Carson and me. Each time I look, I notice some thing new. I notice the similarities we share: dark Emerald eyes framed with long black lashes, noses that turn up a little at the end, tanned skin and bright smiles. My heart starts to thump slowly and with that, I let out a deep sigh, annoyed at myself for even thinking that. We look alike but that means nothing. I sigh again, wishing it did. “Hey, Caitlin, over here”. I turn round to the sound of Stan’s voice, only to be squirted with yellow paint. Several gasps and laughs sound from behind me. I grab a bottle of paint and proceed to chase Stan around the classroom, dodging the tables and students. He makes a quick exit out of the door and I follow, hot on his tail. Chasing him down the corridor, around the twists and turns of the old building, I struggle to open the lid of the bottle because of the dried paint. We turn the corner and I squeeze the plastic bottle, only to miss my target and hit Principle Hudson. Uh-oh. Another reason for her to hate me; I’ve just covered her clothes in green acrylic paint. I wonder how much this will cost me. Watching Stan stifle his laughs, makes me have to stifle my own as we stand in disgrace in Priciple Hudson’s office. Then a sound from the reception silences me. I hear my mother’s voice sounding uncharacteristically annoyed. Is this finally the day she will yell at me? I hear Carson’s voice and mutter, “Oh, thank God.” Thanks X more

It's just when I write, I'll kind of like it, but after I edit it and edit it I just stop liking it. I've found thing's I've written years ago, and loved it, but everything I write now seems so...bland to me. Does it feel like that for anyone else? You can see for yourself if you care to read it. SAMPLE I groaned in frustration as my eyes flickered back and forth between my two choices. There they both sat, both perfect and tempting and altogether deliciously inviting. I chewed my lip while I contemplated the advantages of both. Could one be better than the other? I heard the woman behind me sigh and tap her acrylic fingernails on the glass counter impatiently. I didn’t blame her. I’ve been standing here for ten minutes now, totally indecisive and probably making an idiot of myself. For who would spend this much time on something as unrelevant as this? Wait. Couldn’t I just have both? Slowly, I reached foreword to grab them. Then I hesitated. “No” I thought. “That would be nasty.” I licked my dry lips, longing for the hot, satisfying taste of my French Vanilla Cappuccino. Suddenly, I heard the shrill voice of the angered woman and something small get trusted into my fingers. “Just take one!” The woman said, giving my a funny little glare that made me want to poke my tongue out at her. Several other customers and a few employee’s looked over curiously. Probably wondering what her problem was. I huffed and walked indigently back to my table, where my father sat chuckling and sipping his coffee. Once I’d taken a seat, I peeked into my hand to see what the woman gave me. Instantly I scowled. Cinnamon drink topping. Disgusting, I thought. I threw the thing to the semi-clean tiled floor, and looked about the rest of the StarBucks. It was furnished traditionally like most other stores in its coffee-food chain, with dark green tiles, and warm orange walls. Large chalk board menus were hung above the coffee making area, and a small but impatient crowd stood at the register. The room buzzed with low chatter and clattering cups, and the air was pregnant with a peaceful atmosphere. more

I'm so used to sketching that painting is rather hard for me to grasp at times. I'm good at water color but I have acrylic now and the current painting I'm working on is a music store ..but I really don't know how to do the windows. I read to make it interesting and to hook the reader in on the first sentence, hence the strange beginning. I also wanted to show my creativity and to stand out from the rest by starting a little differently to the norm. What I mainly want to know is how does it sound? Does it sound right? Have I added all that I need? And is my grammar and punctuation correct? I know I need to do something with the commas in the second to last paragraph. Also how can I summarise it with a final paragraph? Thanks in advance for any help :) Here it is: Imagine if you will a hideous, ravenous beast. Half human, half creature; its protruding, needle-point fangs are dripping with sticky, red blood. It sinks them again into the girl who screams bloody murder. “Cut!” Calls a hidden director and the girl walks off unharmed towards a trailer at the edge of the woods. The creature stands up on its hind legs and strides off in a different direction, towards the prosthetics artist who earlier spent 5 hours applying its latex face, contact lenses, and acrylic fangs. Becoming a special effects prosthetics artist is currently both my passion and my biggest dream. My interest with prosthetics and special effects started when I saw the film “Ginger Snaps” as a young teenager. I found myself in awe at how the transitioning stages between girl and werewolf seemed so realistic. I was soon on the internet researching the processes that were used to create the prosthetics, a hobby which eventually became an obsession. My name is Leigh Mayson and I am applying for the certificate of arts to eventually lead me towards my dream career of being a prosthetics artist. My long term plan is to finish the Certificate of Arts, leading into the three year Bachelor of Media Arts course, in which I plan to major in sculpture. Once those courses are complete I will take The Advanced Professional Makeup Course run by prosthetics artist legend, Dick Smith. These courses should gain me entrance into Weta Workshops, where I will apply after the five to six years of aforementioned course work are complete. Acceptance into Weta Workshops it tough, but I am confident that with these qualifications I should be a worthy applicant. Becoming a prosthetics artist has not always been my only artistic aspiration. As a child and young teen I would spend hours drawing amateur comics and sketches of creatures to suit my previous ambition of becoming a cartoon animator. Currently though, my hobbies are much different. I am now into things such as creating my own amateur prosthetics, mainly false teeth, reading, and writing, which has become a new hobby of mine and another creative outlet. In the next few years I hope to not only expand my creativity but to also increase the amount of ways I utilise it. For a while now I have been wanting to learn the piano and will hopefully take that up soon too. As I stated writing is a new hobby of mine and I would like to increase my capabilities in that area, I already have plans of publishing a science fiction novel that I have been working on for the past six months. From the Certificate of Arts though, I would like to focus on developing the skills that will help me move towards my future goal of majoring in sculpture and becoming a special effects prosthetics artist. Personally I think that painting is my main weakness and sculpture is my forte. I plan to increase my capabilities in all areas but would like to specifically work on my weaker points to bring them up to standard.Oh and also she said it only needed to include a little about mysef and my interests and what I would like to get out of the course. My friend applied and was given a sheet to fill out and it only had about 6 lines for this section so I'm guessing it's not a big deal like I'm making it out to be :P more

Resolved Question: New acrylic tank is wobbly...?

I just got a new acrylic tank. It does not have water in it yet. Its on a stand that has a solid wood top so it should be ok for acrylic. The acrylic tank has these little round contact points but I noticed if you tip it - it wobbles - like one of the contact points is shorter or longer. My friend said it is warped and should straighten out once it gets filled. Is there any possibility that instead of straightening out it will crack? more

There's this guy who I'm really close friends with, let's call him Billy. There's this other guy who I'm moderately close with, let's call him Frankie. Frankie and I got into a fight last November, and we weren't friends for a while, but now we're friends again. He's in my homeroom. Every day in homeroom, I'll be talking to two of my best friends, one of which happens to be a guy. When Frankie comes into homeroom and sees this, he stands behind me, very close, staring at me unil I turn around and look at him. Then he'll hold a conversation with me. He does this at lunch, too. I'll be talking with my friends (usually guys) and he'll either come behind me and do that, or one of my friends will say to me, "Frankie is staring at you." and I'll look and see him staring at me. Billy and I spend a lot of time together, and walk out to recess together and hang out at recess too. All the time, Frankie will literally jump on or tackle Billy (it's very comical), and he'll continue doing it to the point where I'm literally on the ground cracking up. Then, he'll start talking to me about something random and out of the blue. Whenever I"m walking inside with Billy, Frankie usually shows up, as well. He'll come over and either walk right between Billy and I, or he'll walk over to Billy and shout, "WHAT DID YOU SAY ABOUT DANI'S UNDERWEAR/BRA/BED?!" just to weird me/Billy out and get one of us to walk away. Recently, Frankie came up to me and said that he'd heard that I'm obsessed with Billy and that Billy knows I like him- I'm not obsessed with Billy at all, and I don't like him anymore. I told him that, but I was wondering why he'd even say such things. Can someone tell me what they think his motives are, please? On either side, mounted on grey stone columns, perched two great crouching rats, carved in stone, each one's jaw gaping open in a snarl, exposing two rows of weather worn teeth. Their tails coiled neatly around their small, clawed feet. Beyond the gate lay an entire mysterious land. Forgotten about. Abandoned. Fled from. The incredulous, thick, cimmerian darkness caped a cloak of sinister evil around the distant, looming silhouette of a castle, of which a long, winding path of bottomless, untrampled, winter, snow lead up to an ancient castle door, which seemed a marathon away from which I stood. A pale moon, dangled, glowing in the foggy, night sky, bathing the scene with a ghostly glow. Storm clouds boiled and frothed in a gloomy sea, swimming towards the castle. Towers belonging to the worn out building, stretched upwards, piercing the sky with their sharp nails. The whole setting was very uninviting, but if it wasn't for the cold, seasonal weather, i wouldn't be here. I needed shelter from the snow storm that was silently brewing above me. The wind began picking up, moaning a thousand painfull cries, warning me of lay in that frightning, unforgiving place. I finally found the courage to tramp up to the castle, towards the unknown, my fate held in the hands of whoever, or whatever may lurk inside. Up close, the castle was much bigger than it had appeared from the entrance. The huge, worn bricks that built up this tremendous building, were crumbled. A curtain of ivy, covered one half of the castle, had been growing uncontrollably for years. The windows were dust-ridden and stained, some boarded up, with mouldering planks of wood, as if to hide what was concealed inside. Gargoyles, of a considerable size, sat bored on each corner of the castle's keep. The whole building was ill, withiring away, left unremembered by past inhabitants, who no doubt had many happy times in the once magnificent home, but the castle had no happiness now, left alone. Unwanted. Happt memories left to decay inside the heart of the neglected castle. Pushing all thoughts of the past aside, i banged on the rotting, wooden door, desperate to escape the harshening conditions of the outside world. I waited a few minutes. No answer. Maybe it was abandoned after all? The icy cold began to chew away at my bare flesh. The storm was here. Snow began to fall ever so slightly at first, then got thicker and faster by the second. I decided unwillingly to shove the door to see if it opened. CC-RR-EE-AA-KK. The rusty hinges squeled agonisingly, just managing to hold the heavy weight as the door smashed against the stone wall. I walked in, It was a teneborous, fear-inspiring place to say the least. The vile, obnoxious smell of milldew and mould hit me. A fire was lit at one end of the room, giving the whole, foreboding place an eerie feel. Embers leaped and bounced like children plating together in the hot, summer sun, before disappearing back into the hungry flames. A long, dusty table stretched from one end of the capacious, hall-like room to the other, a giant, crystal chandeliar hung, directly above the table's centre, suspended on a bolted chain from the vaultered ceiling. Grand dinners fit for royalty, served on silver platters. Family parties. Seasonal holidays spent together, joyfull and memorable, the proof was all around. Portraits decorating the damp, dreary, peeling walls, showed families happy together, painted in fine acrylic and boarded with golden, engraved frames. There were also a number of large tapestries, embroided with fine, gold thread, sewn to perfection. At the opposite end of the room to the fireplace, were a creaking, unsteady flight of stairs, leading, curving upwards into a murky, shadowless gloom, where vermin festered. A rusting, once silver, suit of armour, stood to attention in one corner, holding a sword in one gauntlet, cobwebs plasterd to him, his empty eyes staring into forever darkness. On the far wall, was an array of weaponary; pistols; knifes; kudos, and some items i'd never come across before. The vast echoing room, looked much like a devil's paradise. A breeding ground for spirits and abnormal entities. As I studied the room, i failed to notice the dark, shadowy figure, that had arrived at the top of the staircase. He stood bold and tall, with a wooden, staff gripped in one hand, it's end touching the floor. His shadow alone, matched the stern outline of the Count in the most impressive picture, fastened to the wall above the roaring fireplace.This is the last paragraph: As i caught sight of his beady outline, a shiver shot straight down my spine, sending all the blood in my body gushing to my feet, glueing me to the spot. "Hello" His chilling, deep, unearthly voice echoed throughout the hall, going straight through me. Curdling my blood. His prescence alone was intimidating. more

I have a menu made out of a printed poster for my espresso stand, but it faded over just a couple weeks due to being outside and sitting in the sun all day. Now I'm thinking of painting over the poster, but my question is will this look fresh for a long time? The poster is paper and will be behind an clear plastic cover. What kinds of paint should I use? Oil, acrylic, outdoor, indoor, craft paint, art paint?????? I dont know. Please help. more

Resolved Question: Paranormal noises and the like..?

My brother texted me tonight and told me that some weird things were going on.. I asked him what was happening and he explained the following: He felt a cold wet thing on his back, when his back was to a chair, and when he stood up and felt it, there was nothing there... No sweat, no ice or anything... and then it came back a few minutes later. He heard something that sounded like fingernails rubbing together... He explained it sounding like when a female has acrylic nails and rubs them together, that weird clicking noise.. Jingling, Like the charms on my purse do, or like a set of keys, but more faint.. And of course, footsteps. Sometimes this happens to me, but not as extreme usually. Sometimes I will just see a "shadow figure" in my peripheral vision, and then when I look, there is of course nothing... I will hear footsteps sometimes, or banging on a nearby wall, like someone is trying to get out? Mind you, my brother was home alone tonight. He didn't have any appliances on, like the tv or air conditioner or anything like that... He was reading. He wasn't super tired either, so it wasn't just his mind playing tricks on him. My family has always been very in touch with our "sixth sense" if you will, so I believe him to the fullest, and he's not the type to make things like this up. He was very wary... So my question is, if/when you have paranormal encounters, what are your "symptoms". What do you see/hear/feel or what have you. Also, We both often get "ringing" in our ears just before things like this happen, do you get that as well? And another thing, is there anything we can do to heighten our senses so that we hear/feel/see more? We're not too afraid of the things "living" inside our house. My theory is that if they wanted to hurt me, they would have by now. Also, is there any way to know FOR SURE that something is going on here? Not crazy, just curious. Thank you! more

Resolved Question: Respraying plastic motorcycle panels?

I am in the process of rebuilding a Suzuki TS50 for a friend. I do not know the age of the bike but I'm guessing something like 20-25 years old. I have a reasonable amount of experience in spray painting, both nitrocellulose and acrylic 2 pack on metal panels, mainly cars. The fuel tank is metal so I have no problem refinishing that; the question I have is regarding the plastic parts, mudguards, side panels etc etc. The bike has stood in the sun for many years and the surface has deteriorated and left a thick crust of degraded grey plastic. Removing the crust is no problem, it just scrapes back to reveal the original yellow colouring of the plastic. I have no idea what paint to use on these parts. They are all fairly flexible and I am concerned about the new finish cracking and peeling. Anyone got any experience of this sort of paint job? Any suggestions for what type of paint to use? Any special primer required to bond to the plastic? Any help and advice would be appreciated. more
