Open Question: What do you think about this resort and spa?
I am designing a resort and spa. And The theme is under the sea. Sort of a coral aquarium, and sea abyss at night. As a costumer. What would you like to sea. It is in the middle of a mountain but has access to the sea.
Would you like to see sphere shaped villas, and gardens that resemble corals under the sea, that light up at night.
Or would you prefer something more conventional like a rectangular villa with interesting shape of a roof and the decor to be coral like as well as the gardens?
Please please any ideas of things that you as a costumer might like. Aside from spa services like, yoga and pilate sessions in the morning. Horse riding through the forest, etc..
other themes for the resort and spa. would be very helpful.
Thank you!
moreOpen Question: Do I need a light for a 10 gallon non-planted community aquarium?
I recently purchased a 10 gallon aquarium with filter, heater, etc.
My question is, do I need a hood light if I'm only going to use fake plants?
I am going to put two Mickey Mouse Platies, two Cherry Barbs, and a red swordtail (I'm not trying to overcrowd).
Also, what happens if my filter is too strong for my fish? I heard wrapping a thinnly sliced sponge around the filter with rubber bands will help slow down the current.
One more question: How do I feed the 5 fish? If each fish is supposed to get 2-3 flakes a day does that mean I would but in 10-15 flakes? I just don't want one fish to get more than the rest of the fish or anything.
Thanks
moreOpen Question: New Aquarium Water Cloudy, help?
my new 90g freshwater aquarium seems clear from the front, but it is a bit cloudy when looking from one side to the other. it has been up and running with 2 canister filters running charcoal, sponge, biological, and nitrate media for the past 5 days. i threw a raw shrimp in there for a few hours to get some ammmnia cycling 2 days ago if that has done anything. also it seems to have a very very light greenish tint when looking closely, but maybe this is the background reflecting, because there is no algae on the glass surface. i washed my gravel and rocks thoroughly, and i heve one piece of wood in there. i would like to wait 2 more days before i add my first fish (tiny, juvie, green terror). i wil ad fish slowly at a time so my bacteria colony can develop. any ideas on why my water is cloudy, anything i can do?, should i wait an see if it will clear up on its own?.... also i plan on planting a few plants in my tank.
thanks,

moreOpen Question: Need help in finding the right mobile?
I have a choice between fisher price rainforest mobile, and the fisher price aquarium mobile.
I am having trouble finding the aquarium, because I dont think that they make them anymore. (I am going to buy used). But I dont have a clue where I can compare these products.
The rainforest is quite larger, and colorful. But the aquarium has lights, and projection lights. They both sounds a little distracting from the ultimate goal... sleep. But I need one better than a wind up, and one with a remote. Wich they both have. I can buy the rainforest for $40, and the aquarium for $20. So what would you decide?

I have a Aqua One 620t with built in wet/dry hood filter and heater 130 l
i am thinking of converting the tank into a marine setup and was wondering if this equiptment would do the job :
Lighting: I really dont have a clue, the lights in the hood are standard aqua one flouresents
Would 2 marine blue units on here do the job to keep some soft corals
http://www.aquarium-parts.co.uk/acatalog/AR_620T_Spares.html please look
Protein Skimmer: v2 skim 400
Pump: Koralia 2
Im not having a filter seen as a have a skimmer and live rock
the hood filter will become a refugium with live rock, so that provides some biol filtration
Any advice please give, also i am only 14 but experienced with fish, could you plesae keep suggestions at their cheapest seen as im on a budget
I will also have to buy the salt, master test kit, calcium additive, RO machine, live sand and rock have i missed anything ?

moreResolved Question: Aquarium plants question, need some advice please.....?
Alright so we're growing aquarium plants in a 100 gallon tank, so far we have a variety but a couple are turning brown even though the tank has a lighting system, and the substrate is gravel. So far the 'Petco' experts' say that everything should be fine, and I'm also keeping the water at around 80-82 degrees F. Now I bought some aquarium plant food, and dropped 12 tablets, per instructions, into the tank, my main concern is how often do we put this kind of fertilizer into the aquarium. The box doesn't state anywhere how often to do it!
I would really appreciate any advice on this matter and any other helpful tips that can help the plants grow faster, lusher, and greener! Thanx in advance!

moreOpen Question: Are any of these betta fish rare?
I recently bought a 5 gallon aquarium. It has a pretty blue light that came with it. It has some neon fake plants, and a filter. I have nine bettas. I want to put my most flashy betta in it. All of the bettas are in 1-3 gallon filter tanks by themselves. I have 3 that are getting ready to pass away due to old age. 1 year and 3 months of age is OLD for a betta. So I won't inclue those three.
1. Snowflake: A pure yellowish white color Crowntail female betta with 1 Hazel and 1 Baby blue eye.
2. Otis: A pure white peachy double tail male betta with 1 half blue half black eye and 1 blue eye.
3. Tiger: A purplish burgandy color Roundtail male betta with brown eyes.
4. Naomi: A white and brown marble V-tail female betta with black eyes.
5. Libby: A white green and blue female v tail betta with brown eyes.
6. Snowball: A green and white cambodian half moon male betta with hazel eyes. When I bought him he had a majorly ripped up tail. He is still trying to grown it back so he isn't that pretty.
So, What do you think? Give me your comments and Ideas on which betta should go in the awesome tank! :)

Okay so I have kept freshwater fish for over 2 years and now I think Im ready for the challenge of saltwater fish. I have already a tank, lighting (Blue actinic tube and also a daylight tube) heaters (2 150W smartheaters) A large external filter (Eheim Ecco) and a pump.
I think I need:
protein skimmer
powerheads
live rock
live sand
My LFS sells premixed water which I will use for now.
Have I missed anything?
Obviously I know it's a small tank but it is all that is practical for me.
Also my main question:
How much will it all cost? I live in the UK so in GBP would be nice. :P
also Im still at school too so I don't have loads of money... This may be a problem :(
moreResolved Question: FanTail Sitting On The Bottom Of The Tank?
I have a 15 Gallon tank. There are 2 (2inch) fantail goldfish, along with 6 guppies (beautiful fish i might add) and a plant. I have a power filter that goes through 600L/H and also a shower. For the past few days one of my fantails has been sitting on the bottom a lot.
When i got her (im assuming its a her) she had a bit of her top fin missing (just a wee bit). Recently on the advice of my LocalFishStore i introduced 6 tiger barbs into the tank and they damaged her rear fin too - (i removed the tiger barbs and put in 6 guppies). The fish is eating fine. i feed em pellets and bloodworms alternately. I asked me pet store guy and he said to put some noniodiesed salt in the tank just to be safe.
I have a thermometre in the tank and the temperature stays in the 'green zone (acceptable)' the whole time so its not that. I turn the light off at night.
im getting a bigger tank in a years time, but i want to see them make it to that.
Q1 - what i would like to know is whether the fish is ill or just resting?
Q2 - How much aquarium salt should i be putting in if any? (just to be safe)
Q3 - Also should i leave my filter on the whole time or cant i turn it off at night?

moreVoting Question: Is warm water bad for Betta fish?
I have a 5 gallon tank, with a whisper filter and light. I do have a Java fern, and thats all. Might add more decoration in the future. I just want to know, if the water in the Aquarium is a little warm, will it kill my Betta? I dont have a heater, because I think its pretty useless here where I live, It gets to Warm, the water is already warm without one. I would only get one during winter, when the water gets cooler. So Im just wondering, or any tips on keeping the water less warm? Thanx!!
moreVoting Question: 20 gallon tank too hot?
Yesterday, I purchased my first aquarium from PetSmart. It is a top fin 20 gallon tank that came in a starter kit with a filter, chemical conditioning, ect. I set the tank up easily, conditioned the water, added the gravel and decorations and put in the thermometer that came with it. I ran the tank through the night with the light off. Now the thermometer which is a thin plastic one that lights up numbers in multiples of 2 depending on the temperature. When I checked it the numbers 80,82,84 where all lit. From what I've read, for freshwater tanks it should be anywhere from 72-80F. The tank is near a window, which is always closed a no light gets through, a ceiling fan that runs fairly fast, and an air conditioning vent. I live in Texas where it gets very hot during the summertime like this, but I guess I just need to know how to cool it down and keep it cool. By the way, when I do get fish I plan on getting a rubber lip pleco, a ghost shrimp, a mystery snail and maybe one other fish. Also should I probably go buy a new thermometer because this one is kind of a cheapie. Thanks in advance :)Oh and I'm not using a heater because I was told not to by the person at PetSmart because of the already high temperature.Okay thanks for all the answers, I got a new thermometer and it turns out the temp is at 79, so the old thermometer must have just been crappy :)
moreResolved Question: why in the hell are my fish dying?
Ok so i have a 7 gallon tank a bit over stocked but i don't think this is something crucial to why this is occurring. I have the following: 4 albino long finned zebra, 1 normal zebra, 1 red halfmoon betta, 1 dwarf gourami, and the hell of a lot of trumpet snails. Now about the betta and gourami i am just very fortunate they did not fight. Ok So my aqaurium was custom made and so was the hood. I made sure there will be no possible way for them to jump out yet a few minutes ago i found a zebra in the floor, i put it back and i am hoping it will live. As for the other zebras they are terrified for some reason. they refuse to come out. Yesterday i noticed the gourami was chasing them, does this have anything to do. And my aquarium was cleaned yesterday (as usual) i took about 2 gallons of water and replaced them with water just perfect for them. So this does not have nothing to do, i hope. Also about 4 hours ago they were drilling a hole outside where they were. It was REALLY loud. Does anything here sound like something that affected them? I turned off the lights of the hood so they can calm down a bit. What should i do? Please help...there are 5 zebras, and they have schooled together ever since the first day (10 months ago)fishlady: why is that?fishlady: why is that?governme: I hate to disagree with you, but bettas are only aggresice toward there own species, and gouramis which is why i said i was lucky. Now i did not have any sick fish, water is perfect, there are no saltwater fish, as you should have notices i listed the fish i had. I believe there are many snails but as i asked why is it they play a pivotal role in this situation?

moreResolved Question: Is this good lighting for my aquarium?
I have a 55 gallon tank. With most fake plants, and decoration. The tank has a 48" light fixture with 4 long bulbs. It had 3 Acticnic lights, and 1 10,000k light. Some time ago, I got some brown algea, (diatoms) and heard it was because of wron lighting, and also got told to get live plants.
So I got 4 plants. 2 Amazon Swords, 1 java fern, and 1 random one. ( I think its a archanian or IDK, something like that!)
So then, some where not growing, and I got told it was because the acticnic where not good enough. So I put them in a smaller tank, with a bright light to grow for a while.
SO today I went to the store and bought two bulbs. They are 32watts and 6500k (wich I heard is great for plants). The package said "daylight" on it.
So will these lights help my plants grow? And will they help prevent diatoms or just make it worse?
Thanks!!!! If it matters, I replaced 2 Acticnic lights, and left the 10000k and 1 acticnic.
moreResolved Question: WHAT DOES IT MEAN WHEN U DREAM ABOUT FISH/DOLPHINS/DINOSAURS?
I had 2 really weird dreams last night…..
The first dream: Ok first off the dream was about me and about 3 different girls (in the dream we were really close friends). We were on a little boat in the middle of a really huge ocean with really big waves. Each time we would go over a wave lots of dolphins would jump out the water over our heads; once we made it to the top of the wave we could look over and see this really pretty place with lots of huge animals running around playing (some fighting) I’m not sure if they where dinosaurs are not I can’t remember I just know that they were beautiful. It’s almost like we could reach over and touch them because they were so large. The dream was very peaceful, the water was crystal clear and the sky was a pretty light blue…it ended with all of us just swimming in the ocean playing with the dolphins having a really laughing and having a really good time.
The second dream: I was at my mothers’ house and she has this really beautiful aquarium full of colorful fish and a big weird looking frog. All of a sudden the fish got out the fish tank and started swimming all around me and at first I thought I was seeing things then I realized they were really floating so I was trying my best to catch all of them and put them back in the tank because I was afraid they were going to die. I panicked so I ran to the back to tell my mom but when we got back they were all laying on the couch gasping for breath and my brother started putting them all back in the tank and they just started back swimming.
Can anyone tell me what either of these dreams mean…….I really would like to know
moreOpen Question: Is My Girlfriend's Hamster Insane?
About five months ago, my girlfriend and I bought Hamsters, she got a female syrian that is blackish grey and has a cream color section on her bottom. She named it Rukia. I got a male longhair syrian or satin that is tan, white and grey and a runt, I think. He's Ichigo... We like Bleach.. Shhh. Anyway, I got a wire cage and she got a plastic one with tubes and a built in wheel. She then filled her wheel with food and ran in it, new cage, a wire one. Then the bar gnawing began, so we got 10gal aquariums for both. My male has adapted quite well, never a problem, her on the other hand runs about from side to side trying to claw her way up the glass walls, climb on to her house and try to climb onto the wheel from there and then out, and climbing up her water bottle to escape. we have tried ever kind of bedding, chew toy, food, nutrient supplements, locking her in the dark closet in the cage and even taping black construction paper all around to block the light. Everything short of Ritalin. We are at a loss, we tried breeding her to see if that would work, but to no avail. Any suggestions? Comments? Or wild and crazy ideas that just might work? Please HelpLocking her in the cloest means just taking the whole cage and putting in on a shelf we had bare in there. We just dont put her in a ball and leave here in that overnight. Its the only way we can sleep most nights. She does use her wheel, not much thought. Its not that she is active, its that she is only focused on escaping and eating, nothing else. I could understand running back and forth, but to the point where she climbed ontop of her water bottle and bit at the metal mesh lid and hung there from her teeth is a much different story. The wheel I have is a Plastic Silent Spinner one, very nice, my male loves it, spends 5 hours a night on it. As for the cage bars, she wouldnt chew on anything but, have ever type of chew available in there and nothing. It was a top mounted wheel that came with the cage set, big purple monster, tried a metal one after and then the Silent Spinner one, the best so far. Shes a strong girl too, lifting her ceramic bowl and heavy earthen ware house around.

So I have a 100W Sunglo, and a 50W Nightglo light bulbs to use to heat up my tank. But i hear that under tank heater is the best. I will be using a 50 gallon tank that has an aquarium divider but I dont know how effecting the overhead 100W sunglo will be.
Should i spend 35 dollars on a fair sized under tank heater pad for the area of the tank that I will be using. I plan to use maybe half of the 50 gallon for when the leopard gecko is a baby but slowly increase it as it grows up and will appreciate more leg space.I plan to have tank set up and have perfect temp before purchasing gecko. i will not be impulsive.
I am also afraid of gecko being burned because of heat transfering to the reptile carpet and making it too hot. THis is the brand that is sold at my local pet smart which is the only major pet store that exists in my city: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2752561&lmdn=Reptile+Heating#RatingsDetail

moreResolved Question: Old ATX PSU What Kind of Metal is the Case Made From?
I salvaged an older ATX PSU and am going to use the metal case for a light for my saltwater aquarium.
What kind of metal is the case made from?
Originally I was thinking it was aluminum but now I'm thinking it's tin or something...
Thanks for the help! The saltwater won't touch it,
there might be some very light salt spray on it though. It's steel for being attracted to a magnet(duh why didn't I think of it, aluminum is not magnetic)
Epoxy would be rather expensive compared to buying an aluminum case of some sort for $10.
I'm hanging an aluminum heatsink over my reef aquarium, mounting high power LEDs onto the heatsink and might use the PSU box away from the tank for other stuff and find a aluminum box to piggyback on the heatsink to hold my LCD and led drivers...
Thanks for the information guys!

I bought a used 10 gallon aquarium off of Kijiji it came with a light, heater, and filter... Today I just plugged in the filter to see how it worked and it didn't work at first, but then with the help of some people on here I got it up and running properly... So now it's been working for about half an hour... I put some tropical fish food flakes in it just to see how it would clean it up, and already most of them are cleaned up, except for a few which got caught in the leaves of plastic plants... Right now in my tank there's a plastic treasure chest and a plastic ship, but I'm going to take them out because I see spots where a betta can get stuck... There's also four plastic plants but I'm not keeping them. I plan on using live plants, see, and so right now I'm just keeping those decorations in that came with the tank because I have no other spot for them. And I only have water in there because I was going to test the filter... So anyways, what I'm wondering, now that I already have water in there, and it would just be such a shame to dump it out, can I cycle it now, then dump it out later down the road once I've bought all my decorations? And also, do I need to put in water conditioner? If the tank has already been cycling with a little bit of fish food for the past half hour, is it too late to add the aquarium conditioner? ThanksHopefully you check this back...
Should I turn off the filter once I put some food in, give the food the chance to rot away, then turn the aquarium back on?I'm putting in live plants & I would dump it cause I would still need to decorate it after I cycle it, or else should I decorate it with live plants, driftwood, and gravel first, and then cycle it???

What type of lighting should I get. Can I get regular single tube lighting fixture and get a florescent aquarium plant strip. Or do I have to get a double tube florescent lighting.
ANOTHER ? The lighting is a twin tube does that mean I have to get the fluorescent bulbs that are joined together or can I get two separate bulbs.

I have a 29 gallon aquarium and I want to make it into a planted aquarium. I saw that the appropriate lighting is 2 watts per gallon of water. I can only afford the single tube florescent lighting and the highest watt bulb I could find was 24 watts.
The height of the tank is 18 inches.
Will 24 watts of T5 lighting and 6700 Kelvin be enough to grow WATER WISTERIA, AMAZON SWORD, ANABIAS NANA, CABOMBA, DWARF GRASS, HORNWORT, AND WATER SPRITE in a 29 gallon aquarium.
Will single tube lighting be enough for this aquarium?
