Resolved Question: Will my aquarium plants survive in gravel without any fertiliser?
I've bought some aquarium plants for my tank and I've just put the roots straight into the gravel. I know some people use fertiliser in the tank, but to be honest I'm not too keen on doing that if I can avoid it. I imagine it can pollute the tank, too. Will they survive if I just have them in the tank's gravel with a fairly bright aquarium light on twelve hours a day? I'm not bothered about them growing much, but I do want them to survive as they weren't cheap. moreResolved Question: what filter for a 20 gallon tank with a paor of convict cihlids and no other fish?

It's my husband's 30th birthday next month and I hope to buy him an aquarium as he used to keep tropical fish tank, but hasn't for the last few years I know he'd like to start back up again. This way he can get the tank on his birthday and start cycling it as I would't know where to start. My question is, what tank should I get? I know he wouldn't expect a tank like his previous one (a metre long monster!) so I need something small and not cheap looking that will house some guppies (male/female) neon tetras and a cat fish so definitely not a big tank, just good quality. I know the likes of the fluval edge (which I really like) aren't great as they're too small, so what size would I need to keep the fish I know he'd like? I've been to a few independent stores, and petsathome etc, and they all seem to have quite similar tanks - some do look quite plastic-y and I don't like the biorbs because of the acrylic in them. Thank you for your advice! moreResolved Question: does anyone know any websites that are cheap selling fish aquarium accessories?
ie like rocks, plants etc moreResolved Question: what is the name of that aquarium fish air thing that goes on the bottom of the tank?
its like a plastic wavy thing that you put into the sand or gravel of your aquarium that allows a build up of air then all comes out and does anyone know where i can find one cheap too buy? moreResolved Question: Where can I get cheap aquariums in Birkenhead?
I need a 20-30 gallon tank for under £100 pounds. I'm looking to house some more fish and would like to upgrade to at least a 20 gallon tank. Does anybody know where I can get such a thing in Birkenhead? It must be under £100 pounds or I can't buy it. I know, it's impossible, but I like impossible... Help! moreResolved Question: is this a useless filter?- came free with a little aquarium?
i was bought a cheap little glass aquarium, my auntie and uncle meant well but it is in no way suitable for fish i dont think, its only just 5gallons (please dont say 'oh you can have a betta') it has a filter which was included in it as a set, i think it was bought from home bargains for a tenner. the filter is round and looks like a rocket, it has a suction cup at the bottom and a tube fixes onto it, then theres and box which sits outside the tank and blows air through the tube, through the bottom of the rocket, through the middle where there is a sponge and out the top of the rocket., it says on the box 'combined filter and air pump' but surely this wont ACTUALLY remove any debris and bad stuff from the water? all it does is push air through right? it says on the box that the air being pushed through creates a suction for debris and bad chemicals to be sucked into the rocket where 'it will be munched by your good bacteria' ...as i said, it was a gift and my relatives meant well but had no idea what they were doing...rauf: what's an elephant got to do with a fish tank? btw: i have every right to be angry with my aunt and uncle at this moment, i do not have to 'air my dirty laundry' to strangers but lets just say home life really sucks at the moment and they've done bad things. they're trying to buy me off moreResolved Question: WHAT DO YOU NEED IN A TURTLES TANK?

The Nearest Pet Store Close-By, Is Pets At Home, Some Questions: Which fish tank is best to buy (keeping in mind i have a £35 budget, but i am paying for half of the tank) What do i buy with it Where can i get a de-chlorinator, cheaply! What small tropical fish could i possibly buy, other than bettas. What temperature would i have to keep a tank at, if i had a Paradise fish and some Black molly's. My ideal tank would be: Sicce Moby Dick 25 litre coldwater aquarium Includes light, filtration system built into the hood, submersive water pump. Size ; H=26cm, W=39cm, D=21cm. I would keep 2 paradise fish, 2 black molly's .... also with some gravel, of course, and some plants etc. Is this OK to keep fish in, would i need to buy the Tropical tank from them, but it is more expensive? But i would like some help on a fish tank, because the one i have chosen is from argos, although i would like to see what ones there are in pets at home, cheap! (: moreResolved Question: BiOrb heating question for tropical fish- quick answer needed?
I want to buy a baby biOrb- 15 liters. In my LFS they are £50 plus a biOrb heater for £20. I have found the biOrb online for £23 including an Aqua Heater 50w 220-240v, 50-60HZ. I was wondering if it is advisable to use this heater with the aquarium, it's a round aquarium and the heater has no protection so i'm worried about safety- both for electricity and the fish being burnt. Would it be ok to use this standard heater with the bowl? It would make things a lot cheaper but is it safe- do i need to buy the special biOrb heater additionally? The reason I am asking is because the person who is selling it hasn't used the heater in it- they've been keeping gold fish. It's just the biOrb seems so easy- everything in one for a good price. The filter light heater come to over £50 otherwise :sthe only other tanks my shop sell in this size are bright pink :Sanyway can you answer the question- is it SAFE and PRACTICAL to use this type of heater in a biOrb? thanks :)About the mini heater- does it have temperature control? And is it powerful enough to keep the tank ten degrees higher than room temp! moreResolved Question: Is it my transformer that's humming?

Maybe 2 in 1 heat +lighters?
Thanks xx moreResolved Question: Wrongly informed site? (on rat care)?
http://www.petwebsite.com/rats.asp thats the site, I was researching rat care, and came across this, it's obviously misinformed because all the sites I've been to state the exact opposite (I only read housing but...) it states a glass aqarium is fine and wire cages are little used... Aquariums Aquariums can also be used to house a rat. These are draughtproof and relatively cheap but glass aquariums can be awkward to clean because of their heavy weight. Plastic aquariums however are much easier to clean being lighter but the sides tend to become scratched after a time. Aquariums make ideal cages for pregnant rats, nursing mothers and baby rats. A water bottle can be fixed to the side of an aquarium by using adhesive Velcro pads or some water bottles are designed to be hung and these can be hung from the top of the aquarium. It is always best to ensure a lid is fixed to an aquarium - this will ensure nothing is accidentally dropped on the rat, and will also help in preventing the rat to escape - most full grown rats are able to escape from aquariums which do not have lids. A wire mesh top is preferable to a solid lid with air holes as this prevents the build up of condensation. Metal Cages Cages made totally from metal are rarely seen these days and have a tendency to rust. Home-Made Cages Home-made cages can be made from a combination of wood and wire mesh and a piece of perspex - the base, back and two sides made from wood, a front perspex window and a wire mesh top within a wooden frame hinged at the back and with a little securing hook at the front. The disadvantage with this type of home-made cage is that the wood soaks the urine and so frequent cleaning is needed to keep the cage free from smell and rats do tend to gnaw the wood and so these types of cages may need repairing from time to time. Home-made cages can also be made from plastic storage boxes with wire mesh tops and these are cheap to make, easy to clean and draughtproof. The disadvantage is that they are usually solid coloured and so do not allow you to see the rat unless looking from above. thats what it says, is it incorrect, or is it me? Just wondered moreResolved Question: Rena Filter Aquarium Fish Question?
