Open Question: How much flow for a reef tank?

Ok so i have a saltwater aquarium,29 gallons, with A tomato Clownfish ,Royal Gramma,a feather duster, watchman goby with pistol shrimp, hermits, and two conchs.Anyways I love it and all,but i also want to turn into a Nano Reef.I all ready have a standard power head that produces 170 ghs.I heard that i would need more power heads and i was wondering if the Hydor Koralia would be ok.Also I mainly want to do soft corals so would the Aquasun light fixture Zoomed work? It's hard to find T-5 lights that are 30" :) thank you. more

Open Question: What is so wrong with having a female as a roommate, other females to answer would be best?

anyone that knows California, knows that there are beautiful areas to visit and live and know that there is a huge valley section of CA which outsiders don't realize that it is pretty much the armpit of CA. I grew up on this coastal city of CA and love the beach, I don't know life without the beach and when I visit area's like Bakersfield or Fresno, and the such extreme toxic difference of the heat and air quality and simply no beach around, all this above is relevant because it will have it's play in this question. 4 years ago is when I moved out and decided to live in this condo, the condo is literally 100 feet from the ocean crashing into the rocks and it was my dream to find this place. Most places anywhere in this city, town for a 2 bedroom condo, a good size two bedroom is going for 12-1800.00 a month. I got really lucky getting this place 4 years ago and my rent is 1400 a month is a good price and split between two, a bit cheaper for the roommate cause I have the master bedroom and my own bathroom. Her bedroom also has a sliding door to the balcony which is extreme ocean view and the bathroom which is down the hall way which also has a shower is hers, I don't keep anything of mine inside it, I told her she can do whatever she wishes with this bathroom. Her Dad wasn't very open with the idea of me being a guy but I am extremely clean and don't like clutter which she doesn't either, pretty much what I am saying is that she is a perfect hard to find roommate. Her dad met my parents and myself and checked out the whole place and over time we became friends, I am friends of her parents and we get along very well. This is a college town and she is going to college as am I and so we are just really good friends, we watch tv, movies together, she is like a sister to me and it has always been like this. Anyways I met this girl about 1 months ago now and when I told her I had a roommate she was oh how is he and, I was like no she, and she is a very good person and she just becomes extremely irrational about it. me and my roommate are night owls, we enjoy movies and share some hobbies and my gf is disrespectful and simply rude to her, screams whenever I bring up her name. I spend a lot of time with my gf. even though she has to get up early in the morning to work she stays up on purpose and just simply stares pretty much, doesn't pay attention to the movie and she never enjoys watching tv series and movies anyways so I do with my roommate. Same thing as a guy, I use to have a guy roommate and we would hang out, play games and stuff but he turned out to be a dead beat and started not to have money for rent. I just get extremely upset that she treats my roommate like this and said she is like a sister to me, a very good friend and I can't have you ruin this for me and have her move out. Her dad pays the rent and because he loves the location he pays me half for the place with bills included so I get a check for 900 a month which I wouldn't get from anyone else, so everything works out good except for the fact that my gf thinks it is not normal and absolutely crazy. I spend a lot of time to make the place look very nice, so first impression is like WOW this is paradise setting when really, yes it takes some money but I make it look like it because of class. The living room has my home theater and very large coral reef aquarium. my gf, her family is from fresno and she goes to school out there but works at a good job here in the city I am at so she is only here for 3-4 days a week and it is always about my roommate this an that, I don't get why she doesn't enjoy her company, my roommate makes attempts to be very nice to her, but I think my gif is just jealous cause 1) she is rich - so my gf is just envy of her. 2) she is very attractive but doesn't come chill on the couch wearing a shirt and panties so I don't know what her problem is, gf problem. Would you females have a problem with me if I had a very nice place, environment to me, means everything so I make it very nice to chill there and I spend a lot of time with my gf, take her out to places to eat, I cook, I always clean her car when she comes up cause she likes me to drop her off to work and drive her car back so I can spend time with her on the drive up. I always clean and make it spotless cause she makes it filthy dirty every time I see it each week. I drive back up, bring dinner with me so she can eat something on the way back down but she has a extreme issue of my roommate being female.she can hang out with me with all the time she wants in my room, she makes it a point which i don't even tell my roomie to do which she does anyway and will just stay in her room most of the time and when we get in, we can stay in the living room, kitchen and she won't even be around.. the second room is downstairs anyways where the garage entrance is and washer and dryer area and her room and the bathroom, my room is upstairs where my bathroom is in my room and the living room and kitchen are outside of my room. We have plenty of privacy and no I am not trying o have them be best friends or even friends, my roommate tries to be nice to her and friends with her by offering stuff. My room is like the living room, I have a entertainment environment in my room with my computer and and everything inside. we don't have to whisper or anything cause the condo is pretty large and for her to hear anything you would have to travel through several walls and be upstairs, not like wall to wallI know it is unattractive by explaining so much but if you want to understand the situation it requires it, so if you take that me being clingy, I am far from it... I don't give a shit what my gf says and I mess with her when she acts like a jealous fool. Being from fresno, I bring it up cause she brings it up all the time that she is hated cause she is around here and she loves to talk about the whole fresno/coast debate so wanted to include that cause like you said about them being conservative, idk, but to her the fresno thing is a big deal to her, not dissing fresno, I just say I would never live there. she brags about how she has a 5 bedroom house, sick of hearing that, really it is a dump and it is 3 bedrooms and 2 rooms are half fast mexican made in the garage and her house is a dump, really depressing being there.. when I say environment, ENVIRONMENT is a big deal to me, where you come to, where you live, you want to make it as comfortable as you can cause it is your escape more

Voting Question: Help building a self contained reef aquarium?

My family has had a small (i think 18 gallon) reef tank for a few years now, and we've decided we want something bigger. My dad tasked me with coming up with a new tank, and said that it had to be self contained. He wants it to be about 50 gallons, with minimal input on our part. I know that at every store we've been to for coral has had those tanks that basically run themselves. they have one part that grows the nutrients, another that you actually see that has all the coral in it, and as far as I know, they have the whole system automated, so they don't have to do anything but if anyone could confirm this, that would be great. I want to build something like that (only one tank, though) that pretty much runs itself. I am pretty handy with tools, and plumbing is not a problem, but getting it as a kit would be much nicer. If anyone can give me tips on what I need, and anything that I have wrong, that would be great. also, any kits that would do this for me would be great also. more

Voting Question: What saltwater fish are recommended for coral reef safe aquariums that are also compatible with clownfish?

I am setting up a 80 gallon aquarium and I want a pair of clowns and some mandarins, what other fish are compatible with those two fish and will do fine with corals? Fish recommended more towards the moderate care level and not ridiculously hard. Thanks, Anthony more

Resolved Question: Snowflake Eel Reef Safe?

I have got A LOT of conflicting answers from various people on this one so I figured I might as well ask here too. People on online forums typically say no to everything I ask and this was a HELL NO! My mother's boyfriend has spent thousands upon thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours on many, many fresh and saltwater tanks in the past and he says he personally kept a snowflake eel in one of his reef tanks and it did not bother any of the medium to large sized fish/inverts, he said just use your head about the matter. A lady a Petco told me he WOULD eat the smaller inverts and less likely, but possibly the small fish but just to stay away from inverts all together to be safe. And like I said, online everything is a "no dont do it". So has anyone here kept a snowflake eel in a Reef aquarium without any harm to corals/inverts/anemones/medium fish? I do really want the Eel, but not at the expense of introducing Godzilla(the eel) to Tokyo(a reef aquarium), if you catch my drift. Also, if the Snowflake would possibly pose too much of a problem, is it possible that I could seek out a different type of eel or oddball fish to add to a community reef aquarium? Nothing that gets bigger than the snowflake though. more

Voting Question: How many pounds of live sand in a 30 gallon aquarium?

Hi! I am trying to convert my 30 gallon freshwater into a 30 gallon saltwater. I am going to buy Aragonite Reef Sand for my sand. Is there any other suggestions that you might have? Those would be very, very helpful! Does Aragonite Reef Sand count as live sand? Do I have to mix it with other sands? How many pounds do I need in the 30 gallon tank? And lastly, is Aragonite Reef Substrate the same thing? I do not have any corals but I hope to get Live Rock. Thanks so much! Have an awesome day, er, night! more

Resolved Question: narcissistic personality disorder? NPD?

All in the family, come from a normal average family they do very well, the problems I am having is with my brother now, we pretty much had a fall out and I don't believe I will be talking to him for some time. My brother drinks a lot, has had all kinds of drinking issues when he was younger and now his job he has has changed him a lot, being a firefighter he feels he is higher then other people, others are civilians and he is is a authority figure. When he comes to visit us which he lives hours away, will come and buy a hundred dollars of alcohol, drink get faded, drunk sometimes and act like a ass and a over emotional person with not being very coherent, his girlfriend does not drink but will smoke cannabis sometimes and when she brings up the drinking problem will get all mad and say he has no problem and that she is a drug user and uses cannabis, she does very well in school and is a biomedical chemist and he will go and tell my parents and alll kind of insecure stuff. cannabis is no big deal to me, even though my family does not use it, they know it is not a hard drug and she is responsible enough to use it and we live in a state where cannabis is not looked upon bad and pretty much legal. Found out I used cannabis, I do fine, I am a engineer, computer sci student and I don't drink but he went and told on me and said I need counseling and made all these assumptions to my parents caused he searched my room and found a syringe with my coral reef aquarium which is used for the reef tank which the parents know all about but told them that I am a druggie and other people and pretty much my dad said to keep stuff like this in family and don't assume, and he gets all very angry and says you enable him and then he hates hearing about how he drinks too much. He acts very confident and when he does not get his way he gets all mad like the wedding they are to have in a year, his girlfriend's family is putting 40 thousand so far into it and is mad that my dad is not putting 40k or in it too, my dad rather put the money into a house since houses out here cost around 700k and up for just a ok house. I tell my dad he narcissistic and just thinks of himself even though he acts all nice to my parents it is because all the money they spend on him whenever he ask for it and when he doesn't get it he gets like a baby, I am very appreciative when they spend money on me and really feel bad sometimes, now he won't talk to me and thinks I am druggie daemon scum even though I made the mistake of protecting him when he was younger like 3 years ago when I found out he was using hardcore drugs and didn't say anything and now he wants to be like some hero telling on me for what I did... I am sure some replies will say, u use cannabis, I am a junkie, I feel if you are smart and have will power and if it is for you and understand concepts and understand how a gateway drug works you will be fine like me and my brothers gf talks about. When he told on me with all this crap I told my dad everything cause I was tired of this crap cause he thinks he is not a civilian and likes to bring all this drama to the table. I forgot what I was talking about lol, have a broken neck and a cast right arm hand just go with the guestions withiun an dnswer awau more

Resolved Question: Saltwater reef aquarium inhabitants?

Hm... I'm an experienced freshwater aquarium keeper, and I want to start a saltwater adventure... Well, its a 60 gallon, I plan on having coral, and the fish are 4 Blue Reef Chromis, a Pinkbar Goby, 2 Longfin Fairy Wrasse, 2 Yellowhead Jawfish, a Red Mandarin, a Horned Blenny, a Springer Dottyback, and a Sea Moth... I'm going for a peaceful theme... So these look compatible? BTW they total 54 inches of fish so its well within the boundaries of the inch/gallon rule so no worries =) more

Resolved Question: Children and aquariums?

A friend of mine from Germany just sent me a message, I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Her 5 year old thought that her fish looked sad, I can only guess at his reasoning when he added a box of cereal to the tank to cheer the fish up. Since the tank is a 6' coral reef tank worth many thousands I was just wondering at which point adoption is a suitable punishment for a 5 year old. A whole box of Rice Crispy's, she asked me if I knew how to fix the problem, ROFL. I told her to filter and skim like mad and do plenty water changes. I can't believe I am asking this but has anyone else experienced this and does anyone have any advice I can give her? She already said no to adoption and Ritalin. more

Resolved Question: What are reef aquarium lights for?

I bought a 55 gallon tank, and had this asome huge light fixture. But the lights were not the original white light, they were like blue-ish or purple-ish. Saw this stamp on them and it said "Coral Sun". Wich I guess is the brand. Any ways, I looked up reef lights on google and pics with Salt Water aquariums with blueish light appeared. So I guess the lights I have must be for something in a saltwater aquarium. But I dont have saltwater!! I have fresh water, will this light hurt my fish?? Or cause damage to the decor or plastic plants? I was planning on getting live plants, will this light help plants grow? Or do I need the white floracent light?? What are these lights used for exactly?? more

Voting Question: my girlfriend doesn't like people with money and I hate poor people lol...?

And no, I don't hate poor people - put there for a attention grabber so people can view my post, enjoy My girlfriend does not know how to save money at all, expects me to spend money on a trip when I explained to her I am poor in the way I monitor my accounts. For instance, when I was 18-24 I had this system where I set limits, and during that time it was 8-9 thousand dollars and if I came near that number, I am in a danger zone until I did some more saving and increased my money above that limit, now and she thinks that is insane and she never heard of that before well I don't care if you think it is strange, that is how I budget my money. She believes I hate poor people because of this system. I have two expensive hobbies, my car which is probably I care more about then her and my coral reef aquarium which are my hobbies and I care about a lot, she thinks I should get rid of my hobbies, I said you are insane if you think I am going to, just because you think it is a waste of money, I can afford it and do what I want. I came down on her because she drives some pos kia which is wrecked and she owes more on it then it is worth and didn't get full coverage insurance on it, I said wtf, how can you get a car from the bank and not have full coverage and she is bragging how nobody where she is from does that and there is ways to get around it, I said well you are a idiot, now you drive a wrecked car which you owe more then its worth and you had some ghetto shop repair it. so after telling her this, she thinks I hate poor people. I was simply telling her, if you cant afford the car then you shouldn't be buying it, I told her my car cost me 27,000 and my car payments are 150.00 a month, and she doesn't get it and I told her that is why I never lose money on my cars, I pick cars that don't go down in value much and this and that... Tired of her profiling me irrationally by judging. She hates that I put all this money into my car, I just reply back to her saying I can afford it so what is the problem here. she comes from a wrecked family and never enjoys anything and has no hobbies at all. It all started because when a car next us pulled up and said hey your mommy and daddy bought you this car, I played around and said, yup and started calling them poor people lol, just to piss them off and she got soo pissed off, I was like what you didn't mind them calling me names and saying that my mommy and daddy bought this car, she just pisses me off daily with this bs. more

Voting Question: Is it okay to add live rock from the beach to my aquarium?

My aquarium is empty and no rocks(But already has fish). I'm thinking, maybe I should pile up rocks in my aquarium and make a "reef" kind of design. These rocks may have plants and little critters in them. It may or may not harm my fish. I would buy from our local pet stores but they don't sell any products for any saltwater tanks. All I have in my tank is all bought by the beach, from a fish seller. All fishes are from the wild as well as the water. I have soft corals, and they're from the wild too. Can someone help me decide? :) Thanks in advance.I have a puffer fish(2 inches long), 2 cinnamon clown fish(a small one-2 inches long, and a big one-4 inches long), 1 yellow-tailed clown fish, a goby, a blue damsel, a three striped damsel, a snail, and 3 small hermit crabs. If I can't where can I get them? Buying them from the internet is passed my limit. My parents won't allow me buying anything from the internet. Maybe I'll try boiling them and them drying them in direct sunlight. I'm gonna try and see. :)If there are plants in the rock that I like, do I have to remove it? more

Resolved Question: Converting a 20 gal freshwater to a reef?

I'm researching saltwater aquariums and have a 20 gal freshwater tank that I want to convert. If I use a berlin filter system, will I absolutely have to have a protein skimmer? And can I still use live sand or crushed coral as the substrate? I would like to have coral (like a red deep water gorgonian, or tooth coral) and at least one anemone. I would like to have a few of these fish: Ocellaris clown, yellow tail or azure damsels, royal gramma, and maybe a black saddle toby, if the other fish I get aren't too small?, fromia star fish.well, I already have the tank, so I'm just researching my options. And I know I can't have all of those fish, those are just some of the ones I'm interested in keeping. I know the gal/in rule of thumb. thanks a lot for all of your answers so far! :) more

Resolved Question: HELP PLEASE ANSWER MY QUESTION ?!?!?!?!?

Hello, everyone i am in need of some assistance. You see,i have this dream of building or making an aquarium ecosystem. This dream became reality when i bought my 750 gallon aquarium. It cost me a fortune, but i'm happy with my decision.I need someone to give me an idea on what fish and crustaceans i should add to my tank.i already have some ideas for plants and the design of the tank.I would like my tank to resemble a coral reef,or at least one of the rift lakes in Africa.Mind you,i do not want any rift lake fishes, because i have owned many of them in the past.I want something new,in other words, can someone suggest some new and quick growing freshwater fish species which can live in soft acidic to mildly hard water.I would like the 'largest' fish to attain a maximum length of 5 inches.I also need help setting up a 'food web'.This idea may sound a bit crazy, but it's been my dream for nearly a decade now.I already have a variety of plants and the tank is cycled,so i've already taken care of the producer problem.I need the fishes and crustaceans that will be higher in the trophic level. For example after the producers i will have the 'wild' variety of guppy and a few small tetras.I will need a fish that can prey on this fish.My 'wild guppies grow to a maximum length of 3 cm.I live in a tropical climate so the heating won't be a problem. Resolved Question: Reef Aquarium Questions!?

Ok!... So after a few weeks of planning I have decided I'm going to make a cool 300 gallon salt water aquarium for my newborn son to grow up to. I picked out some unique and compatible fish including a tang, some butterfly fish, lots of cardinals, hawkfish, clown fish, an eel, ect. Anyways, all the fish I selected were deemed safe for a reef, so i decided I'm going to make a reef. Before I get started in choosing specific things, I got a few questions concerning reef aquariums. First, I think I'm going to get live rock. What exactly is live rock? I think it is just rocks that contain a lot of minerals and make good foundations for reefs. Is that correct? And is live rock necessary for corals and plants? Also another concern is lighting. Does each plant and coral organism require similar amounts of lighting? And would too much light be a problem, say if one organism needed more light to thrive so I raised the lighting in the tank? There is also hard of soft coral. Can I keep hard and soft coral together in the same tank? And as far as growth, I can't seem to find any information on the growth of coral, but at some point it will stop right? My next questions concerns cleaning. Would it be fine to get some colorful shrimp and\or snails or nudibranches(which I guess is like a sea slug)? Could those live in a community with fish, or would they just get eaten? My final question regards filtration. I think I can just go buy some saltwater from my pet store. But I keep hearing about a protein skimmer. Is that a filter or separate? And I'm assuming I have to get a heavy duty filter for like a 300 some gallon tank. However, wouldn't that kind of defeat the purpose of the cleaning organisms?(the shrimp, snails, or slugs i might put in the aquarium). Also, would the filter be different because it's a reef? And I herd that the live rock and actual reef system kind of filters the water. Is that true? OK! I know it's a lot of questions. These are the questions I couldn't find online and figure Id try to get a slight grasp on what I can before I call and ask the fish salesman who might just try to sell me a whole bunch of stuff. Anyways, please answer what you can, thanks. more

Voting Question: I am trying to start a 10 gallon dwarf seahorse/reef aquarium. Besides the seahorses and a cleaner shrimp,?

I am wanting to get the Giant Green Polyp Duncan, the Australian Big Polyp Blastomussa, a trumpet coral, and a white pom pom xenia. I just purchased an Eclipse 1 with a wet/ dry bio-wheel filtration system that also comes with one fluorescent light fixture that can only do 15w. My questions are, should i return the eclipse 1 and get a different filter, a protein skimmer, or both? (since my aquarium is so small do i really need a protein skimmer or can I just do with a filter?) Also, will one 15watt light (6500K or 20,000K) be enough for those four corals or should I get a different light fixture capable of more wattage? Or will my current setup of the Eclipse 1 be sufficient for the dwarf seahorses, cleaner shrimp, and those four corals? If you could provide me links to your recommendations I would really appreciate it.I guess I am just wondering will the corals be ok, i can get different fish. I specifically chose those because they require low to medium light and water flow so my main question is still will those corals be able to handle those specifications or will I have to get a new filter and light fixture? I'd rather have just the corals by themselves if I can't have the dwarf seahorses with them. more

Resolved Question: Would a painting of a coral reef represent unity?

I understand that the principle of design unity, shows organized things arranged in a composition or things that belong together. I'm thinking about doing a coral reef (not the fish, but the corals all together) so since I have an aquarium at home, I could do it from there. So my question is, would that show unity? If I paint them really close. If it is not a good idea, what is a better idea I could do?Thanks in advance. more

Resolved Question: 10 Gallon Saltwater Nano Supplies?

I have the list of supplies below and I was wondering if I was missing anything: Aquarium Instant Ocean Aquarium Salt Instant Ocean Hydrometer Marineland Emperor 280 Bio Wheel Filter Power Head Lighting Nature's Ocean Bio-Activ Live Aragonite Reef Sand Or Nature's Ocean Premium Marine Substrates NLS Marine Flakes and Pellets Stealth Pro Heater Thermometer Live Rock Fish Inverts I will eventually get a protien skimmer, another heater, and a bigger tank. So here are my questions: 1. Am I missing anything? 2. Will theMarineland Emperor 280 Bio Wheel Filter be too big for a 10 gallon? It is rated for 30-50 gallon... 3. What power head(s) would be best for the tank? 4. For the light im looking at this one: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=16770&prodid=34676&catid=3 Is that a good light. It is not likley that there will be coral. Just Live rock and fish. For a 20" tank should I get the 18" or 24"? Do you know how these light fixtures go on the tank? 5. Which sand would be better? This: http://www.petco.com/product/7452/Nature-s-Ocean-Bio-Activ-Live-Aragonite-Reef-Sand.aspx?CoreCat=LN_Shopping_FishSupplies_GravelandSubstrates or http://www.petco.com/product/7534/Nature-s-Ocean-Premium-Marine-Substrates.aspx?CoreCat=LN_Shopping_FishSupplies_GravelandSubstrates ? Are those considered live sand? 6. How many watts per gallon is a FOWLR? With Coral? 7. Are Yellow Clown Gobys common fish? Are they usually found at petco? Please Help!I would like 15-20 pounds of live rock. The closest store is 3 hours (which is the petco). The people that work at that petco know ALOT about fish and take care of there fish very well. It is a very clean store and you rarley if ever see sick or dead fish there unless the store recieved them that way. There is a pet quarters (a chain store also) store across the street but they don't get much saltwater fish.... The local store is horrible. They know nothing about fish. They have saltwater fish on display in a marineland 5 gallon hex!! All of these stores are in the same city 3 hours away....Petco's marine fish actually look a little better than there freshwater. I have never been in that petco and seen marine fish sick. There are only a few times I have been in their and seen Fresh Water sick. more

Resolved Question: Going to start a saltwater tank soon, and I have a few questions?

With income tax return time coming up, I've been planning on putting together a saltwater aquarium. I thought about going with a reef tank... but I'm not sure if the set up I'm going with will be right for corals and fish both. I would appreciate answers to the following questions that I could use some clarification on. 1) The tank size I've chosen is 44 us gallons. After doing some research, I'm of the opinion that with fish, it would be too small for corals. Do you agree? 2) Lighting.. With coral I've read you want at least 4 watts per gallon.. but that's it. So this is somewhat of a two part question a) If I had corals, how much lighting and what spectrum or combination of spectrums would you recommend. b) If I had no corals, how much lighting and what spectrum would you recommend? 3) I've heard that if you have live rock, no filter is needed. True or false? (Yes, I read to have powerheads focused on the live rock. 4) This is the big question I had, and I would appreciate as detailed an answer as you can provide, even if it's 20 pages long. What the heck is live rock anyway!? And how does it help break down waste? more

Resolved Question: Is this all I need for my reef aquarium w/fish + inverts?

BTW: my tank is 1.5 months old... everything looks like its doing great! THANKS! more

Resolved Question: Reef aquarium lighting advice needed?

I am building a 46gal bow front reef right now and needed advice on lighting. I am not too familiar with what I need. I read that I need 4 to 8 watts per gallon for reef aquariums. Is that the only parameter I should be worried about? I would like to not be limited on the types of corals I can keep but I know that is unlikely due to my budget, but what do you recommend? Should I be looking to get compact fluorescents, VHO T-5s, metal halides or what? I'd like to keep the lighting under $200 if possible more

Resolved Question: I have just set up a 55 gallon salt water aquarium. Is it okay to have a sand only substrate or bottom?

Currently I have 20 pounds of Caribsea Aragonite live sand. On Thursday I am buying 20 more pounds of the live sand. I also have about 40 pounds of base rock for my aquascaping and plan on buying 50 pound of live rock as well. Will the 40 lbs of live sand and 50 lbs of live rock be enough for my 55 gallon aquarium. I am working towards a soft and hard coral reef tank. more

Voting Question: Can you help me redecorate my aquarium?

I want to make a fake-reef aquarium! It is actually freshwater but I want to put saltwater looking substrate, reefs, and fish in it! So right now I have an average boring tank ,10 gllons, with beach mix gravel and some plastic plants. But I want to get rid of everything in it and start fresh. So here's what I'm looking for if you can help me out? -Fake sand (safe for freshwater) -fake coral/reefs/anemones -cool fish to put in it, that get along with shrimp, that I can preferably keep with several more fish, (I don't want to have only 2 fish in my tank. ) -A was also looking for a small freshwater crab (not brackish) to put in it, I doubt it's possible but if you know of a small freshwater crab I can put in it, let me know. And the most important thing to remember..... keep it cheap !!!! Thank you!!!! Links would be helpful!! xD more
