Open Question: Please Help!! My hunting dog is regressing!!?

I have a black & tan coon hound, female, 3 yrs old. Very loving good dog. She came to live with me as a result of my getting engaged 1 yr ago (she was first my fiance's dog). What I don't understand is how she is recently behaving. When she first joined my family the only obedience issue she had was peeing inside overnight. As a result we learned to take her outside to potty later in the evening. That behavior thankfully has been resolved. Recently though she has begun to chew. Not all the time and not very important things but still chewing all the same. She'll grab a pair of my dirty panties out of the hamper or a pen off the table or a fish tank filter as we're cleaning the tank (and other like items). What is going on? This was NEVER an issue she has had, not even as a puppy. Her exercise time has not decreased and if anything in the past few months I've given her more attention than I ever had before. It almost seems as though she is trying to tell us something and we can't figure it out. Any ideas how we could help her?? Also, I should add we also have a year and a half old dog which was also originally my fiance's dog until we were engaged. He has recently gotten out of his rambunctous puppy stage...is she maybe trying to replace the "naughty" dog role he used to hold in our family?? My fiance (her daddy) has always shown our younger dog a bit more attention than her (and she ADORES her daddy--NO ONE else compares) simply because the younger dog demands it from us. more

Resolved Question: Any idea why my Neons are really scared of me and hide?

Ok, so, I have a couple of neons in my Baby BiOrb (please don't go on about this. My Fish are happy and healthy. and the amount was accidental). I've had them since about 28th December 2009 (Last Christmas), and they're still afraid of me. I thought at hte begginning that it was just because it was a new environment, but after over 8 Months, I thought I'd better enquire. Basically, if I move in bed at night (they're on a table near my bed), they'll make a dash for behind the green plant around the bubble tube. If I walk into the room and go within a metre of the tank, they'll dash to the same place. I just don't get why they're hiding after so long. I can even feed them nearer the front of the tank, and they won't even go for the food if I'm stood near the tank. I've thought that it could be because of the spherical shape, that I look to them more 'scary' and bigger than I actually am. What I really want is for someone to tell me why theyre doing this and also a way that I might get them to stop it. Thanks = )I have 7 of them (again, overstocked I know. I meant to get 5, but the person at my LFS gave me 7 by accident), so its not like theres not enough of them to form a shoal. more

Resolved Question: Are my fish going to die? I added to much water conditioner!?

Today I was removing the big decorations from my tank, because I have to take my fish with me to the beach, and I didn't want the stuff in the tank moving around in the car. So I lost a little water, so I added some, (the correct ammount, I do know how to take care of my tank) and so I had to add some water conditioner because there was chlorine in it. I didn't add much water, and I forgot to add the condition to the water BEFORE i put it in the tank, so I was just going to put a few drops in, but the bottle slipped and dumped about 2 1/2 tablespoons in. And i'm only supposed to put about 1/2 a table spoon of it in if I add water. The water in the tank clouded, and now I'm not sure how to get rid of it. I'm going on vacation in 2 days, and I just got two new fish. I have 3 mollys and a guppy. If that helps. So is there anything I can do to unfog the water? :( i'm worried my fish will die. more

Voting Question: What would you do about my roommate?

I was at probably the worst point in my life when I called a girl I used to be best friends with (when I was a child). She asked me if I wanted to come over and I did. She was still "living at home" and I ended up staying with her and her parents for about a year and a half. Even though we had some of the same classes in high school she wasn't friends with me because her "best" was possessive and didn't want me around. So she wasn't there for me all the years after that I was having so many problems. But when I stayed with her it was something I really needed. After that year and a half we got an apartment together and we have been in the apartment for about two and a half years. So long story short (well not really) one of the reasons I wanted to leave her parents house is because of the way they lived. The house was pretty much "unlivable" but I really had no where else to go at the time. They had several dogs and even more cats and they all would go (both types of going) in the house all the time. They even "went" on my belongings. It was very hard to stay there. But I really appreciated them allowing me to.... They also didn't understand about germs. (I saw one of them using the toilet plunger in the kitchen sink and - maybe I'm crazy that it bothered me - but they didn't clean the sink afterward, or after emptying the fish tank in the kitchen sink either.) The cats would go outside the box because it wasn't emptied and there was "poo" everywhere. Then the cats would eat their food on the kitchen table (they kept their bowls up there permanently) and walk all over the cutting block in the middle of the kitchen. They never cleaned the block and they would cut and prepare all their food on it. I would find poo on the living room couch and would step in pee. There was cat puke everywhere and hairballs and trash. So I guess I should have known better... But I got the apartment with this girl and she kept her cats in her room (she did that at home). But she had never lived on her own and I had to teach her so many things. She would tell me that she was lazy. I would have to ask her if she washed her hands after using the bathroom - she would say she didn't feel like it because she had to wash her hands at work all day. She wouldn't brush her teeth or take a bath/shower. I had people make comments to me about her smelling. I tried to talk to her in a nice way about it and I tried to help her learn things she needed to do. But she just doesn't seem to understand. She lives paycheck to paycheck even though she makes good money only working part time. She does most of her shopping at the nearby convenience store and rarely cooks anything. When we first moved in she expected me to keep doing all of her laundry because I was doing it at her parents to help out. We don't have a washer and dryer at the apartment. I told her no as nicely as possible - "no" even though she assumed I would do it. (I still wash all the towels because of the way her parents house is - her mother ends up doing her laundry a good part of the time. If she did the towels she would take them to her parents house. She would sit them on the couch where the animal poo is - so I do them. ) She also didn't have a car for the first year and a half and while we were at her parents. So I was driving her around everywhere for three years. I took her to work early in the morning and would come to pick her up but I would always have to wait, sometimes up to 45 minutes, for her to come out. I would interrupt what I was doing to get there for her on time and then I would have to just sit there. Then I wasn't able to sleep because her cats were up running around all night. I tried everything. I finally found a way myself to make it a little better after I asked her repeatedly to do something. She finally got carpet after me almost completely losing my mind from no sleep. I finally had to ask her to try to get a car. On top of all that I was doing all of the grocery shopping and cooking and cleaning. I couldn't get her to help me to any significant extent. After a while I would tell her how frustrated I was and she might do something and then go right back to not helping out. If she does do something it's always 'half-way". (She leaves the dishes caked with food, she leaves everything she cleans dirty and everything takes her forever. It took her three days last time to clean the living room- and it's very very small.) I finally asked her to just keep the living room vacuumed (we have one small area rug) and to clean the floor every once in a while and that I would do everything else. She hasn't managed to even do those few things. It's been months since she's done anything. I always make sure the rest of the apartment is clean before I do any major cleaning in my room. But she won't even kBut she won't even keep her room clean. (Litter pan just like at her parents and puke everywhere - so her room really stinks.) My room is about 8 x 9 and hers is about 3 times that large. We pay the same amount of rent. I've had so much happen in my life and I'm tired. She is a dear, sweet girl who cares about me and who loves me. But I don't think I can live with her anymore. I'm afraid of abandoning her. I don't want to be unfair to her. She was there for me when things were so bad... But I just want to live alone now. I can afford to. It will be "tight" but I can do it. So should I go out on my own or just learn to live with things the way they are? Do I just need to learn to be more patient and focus on her good qualities? I really really feel like I can't take it anymore. I feel like if I have to do everything I rather be alone - and I'll have less to do. This is very important to me - I've been struggling with the problem for some time and I can't decide - so any comments will bso any comments will be much appreciated. I've already told her how frustrated I am on several occasions - so I don't think a talk with her is going to help. more

Resolved Question: What do you think of my writing?

After spending that morning helping my mom pick out new table linens, I never thought the day could have gotten much worse. Long behold, something else just had to go wrong. From where I was standing, it looked like my brother Chris was mowing the lawn in his underwear and, on top of that, he was guzzling a bottle of whiskey. It was the kind we used to dare each other to drink as kids. I remember those bets so clearly: us sneaking down into Dad's bar, Chris taking the first swig and passing it to me, and then me vomiting in the fish tank. Part of me didn't even want to go to his house that evening. All I wanted to was spend a relaxing night at home, watching television and writing in my backyard. But then the other part shouted "Help your brother out!" until I found myself riding my bike, that just happened older than me, thirteen miles toward his house since my car was in the shop. I realized that Chris was also singing the "Duck Tales" theme song and swaying his hips. As much as I loved that show as a child, I twisted my face in disgust and got off my bike. "What the hell are you doing?" Chris turned around and was now exposing the front side of his body, revealing his blue, penguin boxers that, for some reason, only had the design on the front. I repeated, "What are you doing?" and he began to walker closer to me, holding his arms out like he was a zombie about ready to eat my flesh, his eyes wide and a grin plastered on his face. I took one step back as he wrapped his arms around me. "Hey, how's my favorite little brother doing?" he slurred into my shoulder. I shrugged off the fact that I was his only brother and fake gagged at his half-naked hug, pushing him away with both of my hands. Chris nearly toppled over after I forced him away, but he grabbed on to his mailbox instead. He embraced it as if it were one of his own children and started petting it like it was glass, fragile and easily broken, mumbling unidentifiable words into it. I knew that I had gotten drunk off my a** before, but that usually just ended with me urinating in my lunatic neighbor's newly trimmed bushes. I never talked to inanimate objects...or at least I never thought I had. I shoved my hands farther into my jacket pocket, fumbling with the loose change. "Chris, are you sure you're okay? You had us worried when you stormed out of the restaurant earlier." That evening was when he, our sister Abby, and I all went out for our weekly dinner. It started out as it normally did: Abby cramming a whole night's worth of drinking into three minutes (I counted), Chris flirting with the waitresses and the occasional waiter to get us free desserts, and me trying to figure out why I still made myself go out with them every week. Damn, I needed a life. But when Abby brought up Chris's financial situation, he took off in the crap-mobile he calls a car and never came back. Abby and I spent the rest of that delightful evening trying to figure out how to talk to him. "Just dandy," he responded with his signature "everything's fine but you know that's not true" smile. Typical Chris, always acting like even the worst of things are good in front of his siblings. I shrugged nonchalantly. "I dunno, man. You've seemed pretty bummed out lately. Everything okay at home?" I motioned toward his house that was covered with splotches of hot pink paint, thanks to my niece, in the background. He turned around for a quick glance and then was back facing me. "Come on. Open up. Isn't this what brothers are for?" Brothers are also for bailing you out of jail and hiding the newest addition of his porn collection in your house so their wife and kids don't find it. Chris scrubbed his hand over his face. "I'm...I'm just so sick of it, you know? Jen's been driving me nuts ever since Caleb was born, Hannah and Dylan keep complaining about how we never never play with them anymore, and, on top of the crap sundae that is my life, I'm in debt and can't afford to live in the house anymore!" I wasn't surprised by any of those facts. I knew Chris and Jen were having problems, but what couple hadn't gone through the same thing they are a million different times before? My niece and nephew already told me about how lonely they had been feeling since Caleb was born. I was also aware of Chris's financial problems because he had been borrowing money from me ever since he lost his job last month. "Look, if you need to borrow money--" I was cut off by my brother. "No...no. I don't want anymore of your money!" He threw his hands up in the air. I crossed my arms. "You're in a real rough patch, Chris. Let me help you out." I took my wallet out of my jean pocket and pulled out a few hundred dollar bills. &quot"I know it's not much, but it should at least pay for one or two of the bills." I held it out to him and thought he was extending his arm to take it, but that wouldn't be like him. He did indeed take the money, but he proceeded to toss it up into the air like it was confetti. "Dude! What the hell was that for?" "I'm sick of your charity. For once, I would just like to handle a problem on my own!" He explained as I knelt down to the ground to pick up the dollar bills. I knew it was hard for him to take the money, hell, it would come close to killing me if I had to, but he needed to do whatever he could to help his family out. Once I had gathered it up, I held it out again. * If someone would be nice enough to thoroughly critique this, I would be so grateful. Even if you just want to point out the pros and cons, that's fine with me. Any type of criticism is fine and okay with me, as long as it is constructive and helpful. Be as harsh as you want, I can handle it (I promise). Thanks! I really appreciate it!By the way, I'm 14 (if that matters or helps). more

Resolved Question: Does having a fish tank in a local place like a restaurant, doctor's office, or small business have benefits?

Some thoughts have been floating in my head: What if a rehome for fish “rented” fully cycled, stocked, simple tanks to libraries, schools, doctors’ offices, and restaurants with simple, easy to follow, info-packet for its new “owner”. They could set up a system where the business would start-out by renting the tank. After a set time of probably 6 months --to make sure tank settles in, remains stable, and that the business wants to go through with the needed work plus to build a strong relationship with the sanctuary-- the business will have the opportunity to adopt the tank fully for a donation that would pay for the tank, fish, and all needed equipment. Rent would include the fully cycled tank slightly understocked with homeless fish --perhaps those which were once ill and hence were brought to the sanctuary (this “renting” would be a form of fostering for the sanctuary), and someone would come by about every 2 weeks to do water changes (for a fee included in the rent) unless the owner would like to learn him/herself (hence less “rent fee”). The sanctuary owner would also stop by unexpected—noted in contract—to check on the fish and tank. Each tank would include a mini-children’s-like book: cartoons of each fish would introduce their names and needs (esply breed and adult size), and speak to the equipment in the tank (like, “Hi, I have a [Brand Name] Heater—pic—bc I get very sick if temp is not kept at 80*F” … “…I need a filter bc …”) . This could be a great thing to look through while waiting for a table, etc, and a great way to educate the public about fish-welfare-awareness. What do you think? Would you go for something like this in your business or classroom? I would like to really help educate the public on goldfish which are cruely kept by hundreds of good famlies who are just ignorant. (I know. I was one of them) Not sure what I mean by goldfish welfare: please read here:http://sarahbethbarlas.com/goldfish.html False advertising is killing the breed. I firmly believe it is better to feed 10 cent feeder fish to a pet snake than to let it slowly die in a bowl -at least the fish then has given its life for a purpose. I am not an animal rights activist, but I do believe in showing respect through proper welfare practices. Thank you for any advice. Take care :) more

Resolved Question: Fixed my first paragraph of my novel! Do you like it?

Sorry about the sort of re-post. I just need opinions on the new first paragraph. This will be the last post for a while. After spending that morning helping my mom pick out new table linens and crashing my bicycle into the thorniest bush in the world, I never thought that day could have gotten much worse. Long behold, something else just had to happen. From where I was standing, it looked like my brother Chris was mowing the lawn in his underwear. On top of that, he was guzzling a bottle of whiskey, the kind we used to dare each other to drink as kids. I remember those bets so clearly: us sneaking down into Dad's bar, Chris taking the first swig and passing it to me, and then me vomiting in the fish tank. Poor fish. They never stood a chance. I was supposed to come to his house with my sister, but she had to abandon the mission to take care of her daughter. I flicked the remaining blueberries out of my tousled hair and realized that he was also singing some sort of cartoon theme song and swaying his hips. I twisted my face in disgust and had to look away for a few moments. * I have struggled a lot with this opening. To me, the it seems a bit scattered and unorganized. Should I split it up or is it honestly fine the way it is? After reading it, would you continue on with the story or just put the book back on the shelf? Please explain your decision to me. Any suggestions on how to improve this are welcomed and greatly appreciated. Thanks! No sh*t Sherlock - Your suggestion really helped a lot and made it so much better. I really appreciate it! Resolved Question: Is my goldfish sick? Thought he was dead?

Okay if you see my last question, I thought my goldfish was dead. When I was going to feed him, he was lying at the bottom of his tank, not moving. I didn't flush him yet, cause I don't like to flush my fish, I leave that to my mom or dad. So my mom came home and when I looked at the tank after putting something on the table for her, he was moving! But he was moving against the bottom of his tank sorta, only swimming slightly above it. He has a small tank, but not too small, he can swim around freely in it, but it doesn't have a filter. Is he sick?? Should I tell my parents I need a filter?? By the way, he is 1 year and 3 months old. more

We have 2 birds,4 goldfish, 2 dogs, and 3 hermit crabs . I don't think that's a lot but my parents do. Since i am allergic to my parakeets i can't pet or hold them. How can i convince my parents to let me get one? more

Resolved Question: There is music playing in this room, what should I do?

There is music playing in this room. The music is a track named 'Music Sounds Better with You', by the band 'Stardust'. The music is coming from a twenty year old Toshiba sound system linked up with a ten year old CD player, which is in turn all linked up to two twenty year old (but still very good) speakers. One speaker, the left one, is sitting on a wardrobe just to the left of the Toshiba sound system, the CD player, and the other speaker. The Toshiba sound system is sitting in the centre of a large cabinet/cupboard storage device which is otherwise filled with strange and forgotten books about everything from DIY to the way that spirits enter the netherworld, and several old cameras. Just to the right of the cabinet/cupboard is the right speaker, which is lying on its side in order to hold up a small 10" LCD television, which is linked up to a cheap and cheerful Freeview set top box. Continuing to the right, there is a table which is laiden with plants and such. There isn't anything to the right of that except for a wall, which is mainly covered with a large window. The top slit of the window is open, and a gentle warm breeze is sifting through it. After the wall with the window, another wall begins, parralel to the wall with the Toshiba on it. There's a Futon/Sofa arrangement here, in Futon bed form, an old radio that can pick up all wavelengths, and then a large cupboard filled with trousers, vests, boots, socks, Hawaiian shirts, and boxer pants. Then there's a door, another cupboard, and a fish tank on top of the cupboard that is also holding the left speaker. Filling most of the centre of the room is the Futon bed. The music is still playing. What should I do? more

Resolved Question: Fish Tanks in bedrooms?

hey all just curious with things like filters or heaters or lights if they become an annoyance. i'm just wondering as i want one in my room as i believe it will be relaxing and my own personal pet that's no-one else's. also, what would be suitable: (for around $50-$120 Australian) from my research, i think a 15-20gallon tank will be good (not sure in litres, or price in Australia) i want colourful fish and a few of them with a mixture of species so it's nice to look at. this is one of my ideas, but i'm also thinking of a small 10 gallon with only a small number of colourful fish just to sit on my bedside table and look nice. for both of those what prices am i looking at for each individual piece of appliance in Australia aswell as what fish i should get. thankyou :) more

Resolved Question: What should i do about the clear film on the water in my fish bowl?

I have 2 betta fish and they have separate bowls under the same light on the same table. I change their water once every week or week and a half and i feed them 4-5 pellets a day. The one tank is fine but i have to clean the surface of the other tank every day because it always develops a thin film over the water. we just bought these plants that are supposed to help the situation but its not working for the one tank... does anyone have any suggestions or know why this is happening? more

A couple of nights ago I had a dream about Goldfish that I can't stop thinking about. In my Dream there were a number of fat goldfish that were just laying on my table (out of water) behind them was the fish tank filled with water. When I went up to the table to look at the fish the tiniest one jumped at me and hit me on my neck and disappeared leaving only the fat fish behind! Every since I had this dream I have not been able to sleep!! I really want to know what this means! more

Resolved Question: My fish tank keeps being messed with by my brother..?

my fish tank had 4 fish in it, but they suddenly died last night, so i took them out, and i put a new filter in and have left it since this morning filtering the water.. i then go out tonight for a family meal and i come back and my table is soaking wet and the plastic plants have been uprooted, this has happened many times before when my fish were alive, but i would of thought he wouldn't of done it when no fish were in it. but due to the filter, i cant put the lid on, other wise it snaps and breaks, my question is, what material (or anything else) can i temporarily stick to the top of the tank, but my cousin and brother cant get the fish or mess with them, but i still can feed the fish inside? more

Resolved Question: My fish is swimming slowly?

My family and I went to a political party last night where the centerpieces were fishes in tiny bowls. There was one fish per bowl, but our family stretched over two tables and got two bowls with two fishes. I received a fish, Cleo, and my brother received a fish, Sushi. Ww fed both Cleo and Sushi once last night for they had been fed in the morning by the political leader. This morning, I awoke at 9:50, went to the restroom (SAW Cleo swimming and even ran my finger across the bowl and had her follow it) but when I came back, she was floating. My brother claims that he had fed them this morning, and I didn't, knowing he probably did. Cleo didn't eat last night, but rather watched as they flakes sunk to the bottom of the gravel. We moved Sushi to a bowl that can hold a little more than 4 liters of water. We de-chlorinated the water last night by allowing it to sit out for about 16 hours and got brand new gravel and everything. Now, after Cleo passed, Sushi has been swimming slowly. I'm sure, that-since they were right next to each other last night- he saw her die, and is lonely? I'm not quite sure what to do, but he swims slowly and will go to the top, and swim back down to the bottom. I also noticed that he will go the the bottom-left side of the tank, rest his tail on the gravel (but keep his body angled up), then start sucking on the side of the tank. Can you please tell me what's wrong? Thank you!We have him in a regular sugar bowl. There is no heater (the water is pretty cold, though) and no filter (with our other fish, Midnight, we cleaned his bowl once a week. He was a goldfish and lived to be 2 years old.). I just changed his water at 10-ish. It's 11:10 AM now. Oh, when I was changing the water, my cat scratched my leg to jump and see the fish. Sushi freaked out, and when I grabbed him to put him from our cup thing back in the bowl he slipped. He probably fell three or four feet to the tile floor where he flopped aorund for a second or so. I got him safely back into the bowl where he swam around happily. more

Resolved Question: I need help with a 5 gal fish tank...?

My husband and I are getting a 5 gal fish tank. I love fish but have minimal experience and we have a 6 mo. old daughter, so we decided something small and not quite as high maintenance as a bigger tank. we live in a 2 br apartment and have little to none counter/shelf space that isn't already being used. So i was looking up tank stands but the smallest I could find is 10 gal. So I need recommendations on sturdy yet reasonably priced night stands or end tables that I could use. Has anyone else had this problem? what did you use? Also, I'm planning on having a Betta fish, a chinese algae eater, and a few Glo fish. Would these be compatible? I know not to over crowed, especially with a betta, I just need to know if the betta will act out with these more

Resolved Question: At what age do you think a child should get a pet?

My son is almost 4. About 9 months ago he got his first pet- A Beta fish named Shark boy. A few months ago he got another beta fish because he was taking such good care of his first one. He feeds them everyday, and always reminds me when their water needs to be changed (hes too young to do it himself, so we do it together). I have several pets of my own- some frog species, and a red tail boa constrictor. He helps me to care for them as well, he mist their tanks, he holds them, plays with them, helps feed the frogs, and is learning a lot about responsibility as well as respecting animals. Anyway, for his 4th birthday, Im buying him 2 fire belly toads. They are very hardy little guys, and they're adorable, and he will love having them in a small tank, on his nightside table next to the fish bowl. I'm sure he'll take great care of them, just as he does with his fish and helps with our other pets. We are about to move and are toying around with adding a cat or dog to our pets. It just got me thinking, obviously my son will not be responsible for the cat or dog, but how much responsibility do you think I could give him? Maybe feeding the cat/dog. Or walking the dog with me? Hmm....? Any suggestions?Daaorld-- Please, next time you speak, try to have a better idea of what you are talking about. 2% of all cases are caused by reptiles. the other 98% are caused by many other things, things that your kids probably come in contact with on a daily bases. Thanks.Of course, If I do get a dog, I will do it knowing that it is ultimately my responsibility, and would basically give some of that responsibility to my son just so he learns more about responsible pet ownership. I do want a dog, and in the end, if all rest on my shoulders and he doesnt want to help anymore, I would still take care of the dog. more

Resolved Question: is this a good start for my novel?

i am writing a novel and i am open to constructive criticism regarding the book to improve it. please rate 1-10 (1 being horrible 10 being magnificent) and explain why and how i can make it better thanks! It is eleven p.m. and Angela Simmons is straining her hazelish colored eyes at the glowing computer screen. She saves and exits her potential novel word document and shut off her computer. Swiveling around in her office chair she pauses to observe her 7 year old son Tj who is snoring softly on the futon covered in a Thomas the train blanket and clothed in blue footsie pajamas. Angela switches off the table lamp scoops her young son into her arms and carries him down the dark and narrow hallway. With her left hands he pushes open her son’s bedroom door and lays him on his yellow oak framed twin sized bed. She covers him in a quilt, kisses his forehead and trudges back to her own room. The television set is still on blaring some paid programming show. Eddy is on his side of the bed snoring aggressively. Angela sighs opens her dresser and fishes around for a pajama top. She selects a blue oversized tank top with yellow ducklings on it. She turns the TV set off and slides into bed next to her husband. “Angie?” Eddy grumbles opening a blood shot eye. “Yeah?” Angie replied turning over to face him. “I love you…” Eddy mumbles before falling back asleep. Angie smiles, falls back on her pillow, places Eddy’s fat hairy arm around her waist and drifts into a somewhat peaceful slumber. The next morning Angela awoke with an unshakably chipper spirit, she allows herself to be carefree and even to ignore the bags under her eyes, her love handles and chaffed lips when she glanced in the mirror. She can hear the theme song to Sponge Bob square pants blaring in the living room, she comes to a conclusion that Tj is up. Angela pulls on a red robe over her petite 5’1 126 pound frame and casually walks out into the sun bathed living room. Tj is on the couch eyes glued to the TV screen whilst his uncle Micah Is seated at the kitchen table reading the comic strips and humming the melody of an R&B song that is playing on the radio placed upon the windowsill beside him. “Where’s crystal?” she asks. Clearing a few dishes from the sink. “Sleep,”” Micah answers briefly looking up from the newspaper. “You ain't worried bout nothin but them comics, huh Micah?” Angela asks slightly annoyed, “Nah sis, just what I do in my mean time.” “You ain't got no mean time. How bout you use that newspaper to find a job,” Angela retorts running the faucet over a macaroni incrusted plate. “Ay sis get off my back!” “Get out my house.” Micah is quiet after that. The door to Micah’s bedroom swings open and a grungy looking Crystal waddles out. “Morning June bug,” jokes Angela. Crystal frowns, and hobbles to the windowsill, where like an old woman; she slowly lowers herself to a sitting position. “Ain't no good morning for me,” she says shifting her weight. She proudly rubs her bulging belly staring at her unborn baby girl. “Come feel Micah, she kicking to the song!” a wide smile spreads across her dark chocolate face as Micah rushes to feel her tummy. more

Resolved Question: Help for a sick/depressed goldfish?

We are looking after my sister's goldfish - it's not in a proper tank, just a goldfish bowl. It's been fine up until recently, we moved the bowl to a table just next to where the tank was previously now, and the fish went to the bottom of the tank. At first we thought this was just because of the minor change in surroundings - but the fish has been at the bottom of the tank for a very long time now, isn't moving much is breathing quite heavily and hasn't eaten, or responded to our attempts to get her to rise to the surface. She's normally a very hyperactive fish and we are worried she may be ill. We can't move her back to the previous location as there is now our brand new fish tank, sitting there (we can't put her in this yet, as it is not ready to have fish in it) She's a common goldfish, and there's nothing but a plant and some gravel in the tank. Does anyone have any advice? more

Resolved Question: What kind of fish tank will flow with my room?

So I was going to get a few of those wall hanging bowls, but I read fish can't live in there. Plus there $30 each and they only hold 2.8 liters of water! I still want to get some fish, maybe betas or gold fish something small like that, but I don't want a big bulky fish tank that looks ugly in my room. Any suggestions for a nicer looking tank. It can't be too big though, I don't have that much table space in my room. more

Voting Question: Could my small pet turtle have eaten my fish?

I have a small aquarium with a small turtle I purchased at a local flea market. I am not certain what the actual breed name of this turtle is but it looks like these: http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q183/Ligeiax/smallturtles.jpg I have a floating rock for him which he sits on a lot and he swims and seems content most of the time. I feed him pellet turtle food and he eats quite a bit. I also have been keeping a tetra: http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q183/Ligeiax/tetra.jpg ...in the same tank with him for about 3 months. I have never noticed any aggressive behavior between the two of them. The fish and the turtle both always seemed docile and content so I never worried that the turtle would hurt or eat the fish. However, today when I returned home from work my tetra is completely gone from the tank. At first I thought he had died so I inspected the tank thoroughly to see if he was floating dead on the surface. Since the fish was nowhere to be found there, I checked the intake valve of the filter to see if he was stuck dead there. Upon complete investigation of the tank, he is nowhere to be found. Is it even possible that a turtle this size and with this calm temperment could have killed and eaten this fish? I see no signs of him (i.e. bones, etc) left in the tank so I am perplexed. I googled what I could about turtles and it says that they are omnivores so I suppose it's possible but I don't know what breed he is and everything I found seemed to refer to much larger turtles who look nothing like him. I have no cats and my dogs have no way to reach or get into the tank. It is on a high table with a clamp down lid and light. more

Resolved Question: decor question please help?

I have a ten gallon fish tank sitting on a sofa table. I have blue, pink and turquoise gravel in the bottom of the tank with tall green plants and a tree stump cave. I think the table looks kinda empty or bare and would like some sort of plant or bonsai tree to put next to the tank. I would like one on each side, and i'm on a small budget. I live in a small town so i don't have big nurseries in my town to go pick out plants. I would like something that can live indoors, and looks nice. If possible add pictures to your answers so i can see what they look like :) thank you! more

Resolved Question: Asian River Themed Aquarium?

I'm going to be getting a 20 gallon fish tank and some fish (duhh). I was think that i should get young bubble eyed goldfish, a few ghost shrimp, a black and yellow corona nerite snail. I've never owned any fish since i was 5 or 6 and my mom took care of them and they over bred and ate each other and yea....ANYWAY! lol. I know the sacks below the eye are very delicate and can be popped by pointing things. I want to know what decorations and plants i could use. I'm planning to use Nature’s Ocean Marine White Sand instead of gravel because i find it very beautiful and unharmful. I know almost nothing about fish and i don't want to kill them cuz i luv animals to the extreme and i would probably end up crying :( I think i should be cleaning the tank every 5-7 days and the bubble eyed goldfish needs a temperature between 65-72 or something like that. Also, i'm buying a thermomiter for the tank and one of those little magnetic cleaning things for algae. Should i buy the fish tank heater lamps and leave them on for a few hours and day or can i just use my table lamp for a few hours (or more) a day? I know shrimp like plants so would some real plants be ok, or do i go plastic? Would the shrimp or snail(s) harm the bubble eyed golfish's "bubble eyes" at all? What food is best for them i know that slow sinking pellet like food would be good for the bubble eyed golfish and i could even learn to hand feed it. Can you list everythind i need to do, use, and buy (pics included PLEASE). I'm sorta low on money so what would the cost be for everything all togeth? here is the tank and sand (and fish breeds) i'm going to purchase and please be free to list more thing I need to buy... http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.teskepetandgarden.com/prodimg/10015.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.teskepetandgarden.com/browse.cfm/15-gallon-glass-fish-tank/4,558.html&usg=__EmyeYZaAomLUam-dnFY89Wk-8hE=&h=400&w=400&sz=16&hl=en&start=6&sig2=N1i1kysvg_Oxa95i3FRDow&um=1&itbs=1&tbnid=kRdVSZaPaj857M:&tbnh=124&tbnw=124&prev=/images%3Fq%3D15%2Bgallon%2Bfish%2Btank%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26rls%3Dcom.microsoft:en-us%26tbs%3Disch:1&ei=pMj1S-OpNYuStgPBtdiIBQ http://www.petco.com/product/7534/Natures-Ocean-Marine-White-Sand.aspx?CoreCat=IO-_-ProductList_2-_-Nature%27s Ocean Marine White Sand-7534 http://farm1.static.flickr.com/227/445926647_09b6b87945.jpg P.S. Resolved Question: White substance around fish tank?

I have a 10 gallon fish tank and have had it for about 2 years now. About a year ago, I started to get a filmy white dust-like substance all around the fish tank. I have wood floors in my house, and the substance also gets on the floor all around the table that has the fish tank on it. The vacuum cleaner won't pick most of it up so i have to wipe all around the tank alot. I am getting sick of doing this! Can anyone tell me what this is and how to get rid of it? more

Resolved Question: Do older guys get 'crushes' Is it likely that this man thinks about me when we're not together.?

Because once a week when we bump into this man and his friends, he talks to us non-stop. His friends become 2nd to him. Once we were sitting on a table talking & he walked past our window looking in, pretending he is casually walking past. He's lent me his coat so many times, compliments me - once told me I'm beautiful. He always walks part of the way home with us. I caught him looking at me once and when my friends left the table he came over to talk. I know him a fair bit now,and he's a lovely guy. I'm actually quite interested in him, but someone of his age and intelligence can't feel the same about me. He will never sit next to me I've noticed, only my friend so that we're facing each other. If we say see you soon, he says next week, hoping we'll come. He has intelligent conversations with us and speaks to us no different than his friends. He once got a little drunk and tried to make me laugh by pulling fish faces by the fish tank, and when it was raining, he came up to me really close, in my face (so he was out of the rain), and jokingly asked if he was too close, then moved away. The 1st thing he said is my hair looks nice, he preferred it hat way & asked to touch it. He moaned jokingly about how I thought he said he was 48 instead of 38 once, and cried to his friend "she used to like me then!" He calls me rose and introduces me as rose, when my name is rosie, but he calls my friend lucy. Once Lucy was telling him a drunk hippie said I was beautiful, and I said "yeah, but he was drunk", and he looked at me and said "I'm not drunk". I like him a lot, but do I show him this, or keep subtle. more

Resolved Question: What's the strangest thing your dog has eaten?

I have a Chocolate Labrador (Cadbury) who is 13 months old and very intelligent...sometimes too intelligent! He's always been a handful to keep occupied and entertained and throughout his 13 months has eaten several things he shouldn't - eg, 2 lounges, 2 dining chairs, a hall table, skirting boards of my newly built house, fish tank pipes (yes, my new house flooded as my 3 foot fish tank emptied itself onto the floor), letters on the table (including bills), telephone cables and extension leads. Today he's reached another level of destruction. I got home from work and found that one of the bedroom doors hadn't been closed properly. On first look everything looked OK, I sighed deeply and thought I'd dodged a bullet. However, on closer inspection I discovered that all was far from OK. He's eaten a lap top! The casing looks a little chewed (not too big an issue), but somehow he's figured out how to open it because when I opened it I found half the keys missing, he's polished off the cables and also chomped down a door stop and DVD cover! Having been through his "gonna eat everything in the house" phases before I've got it all under control but was just wondering.....what's the strangest thing your dog has eaten? more

Resolved Question: Betta fish HELP PLEASE?

Okay, so at my sister's university they use Betta fish as "table decorations" at times, and a student can take them home if they want...so she took one home and we've had him for a few years now. We have him in a 3 gallon tank (I think) and I want to get a bigger one but I don't think my parents will...it makes me upset because I never wanted a fish, but I am caring for it, and they won't get the right things. He doesn't have a heater and now the light on the top of the tank blew. I really really want the fish to be the happiest it can be because I love it (yes I know it's a fish, but I have grown really fond of him and I can't stand to see him in bad condition. One of his eyes are cloudy and I really need to know what to do. He has clean water and a normal bubble filter (it goes through a tube in the middle) but I need to know what to do. Also how can I get his tank to warm up? Please help I really want him to get better. D: more

Voting Question: Alice in wonderland themed apartment?

I live in Australia, I currently live in a small crappy apartment, in a few months I want to move into a nice small apartment and I want to have it themed to Alice in Wonderland (the original and the book, not 2010 movie it stinker). My bedroom furniture; I have this bed http://www.freedom.com.au/furniture/bedroom/beds/beds/22882608 (if it asks for an Australian post code type in 3182) and this bed side table http://www.freedom.com.au/furniture/bedroom/bedside-tables/22839893 I also have large (like crazy over sized) bright coloured roses that I slip in behind my bed. I have a tropical fish tank Dark wood desk with bookshelf over the top Silver and Black canvas of Audrey Hepburn (Pop art) and this tree a made for art class, it is a sculpture and quite big with fabric leaves and little soft toys I made all around it. In my living room; I have an ugly brown coach ( I cannot afford a new one) Dark cheap wood bookshelf/coffee table/dining table and chairs. Massive T.V just sitting on this weird thin table with cables everywhere (I want to buy a t.v unit if its on the cheaper side) SO I really want to have an alice in wonderland themed house. I love all the wacky bookshelf's I see on the internet but I can't afford them. I am also going to be renting a place that hopefully has floorboards, but alas I cannot paint any of the walls.. although my father owns a printing company so there is a good chance I can get him to do giant prints for me, any suggestions guys? (I want it to be better then just a few posters on the wall, I want it to look crazy I have been living in a crappy little flat for 3 years and I want something I am proud to say is mine!) more

Resolved Question: I just finished treating my Cichlid for Ich, and now he is turning blue/black! Will it go away?

My juvenile, 2" Red Devil Cichlid was a bright yellow when I purchased him. 7 days later, he got Ich from stress, and I successfully treated him. I treated at 1/2 the dose because of my plecostamus, also in the tank. Now that the treatment is finished, I have done two 25% water changes in 14 days, (one after the end of treatment, as directed, and the other a week later) maintained a healthy temperature (78 degrees), and replaced the active charcoal filter. I'm also keeping a healthy level of table salt in the water to prevent future Ich problems. The water is crystal clear, and both fish seem to be thriving, but my cichlid is turning blue/black, starting at the tips of his fins, tail, and on his lips. It is getting progressively worse by the day, spreading to his scales and face. I assume it is the Malachite green, but will this cycle through him, or be permanent??? more

Resolved Question: What should I do about my friend?

I have a friend who is really nice and funny and were alike in how we love the out doors, reading, we are both against pollution and are gonna do some work at a river near by, and we are both easily distracted which makes us laugh a bit. But at points I get turned off by her because she curses a lot. I mean I've gotten used to it but it bugs me. And also at points she gets destructive if she is bored. I mean my brother had this really expensive turn table and she broke a piece off of it! She didn't even say sorry! And another time I had this nice roll on perfume and she just starts to roll tons and tons of it on without asking, and then once she spilled this little fish tank I have (not with real fish thankfully) and she just laughed. It had been spilled over these forms I kinda wanted (I adopted a sea turtle, I saved one thing though). And today she left a bloody pad on the floor of my room! I have pale yellow carpet and luckily it didn't stain with a red blotch! She just does these things that irritate me so much that at points I want to scream at her. She is also REALLY loud. She has one of those obnoxious screechy laughs and its what 10:00 and my older sister has the SATS tomorrow and she might be keeping her up! I tell her to whisper but she doesn't. Im not sure If I am tired and grumpy but I just get so annoyed by her. I mean, I don't sound like a nice friend I know, we are good friends and its not nice to talk about her like that but if you were me you'd understand! I don't know what to do, should I confront her more aggressively? more

Resolved Question: Why is my cat so bad?

I have had my cat for 7 months now. He was so good at first and he would even sleep on your lap! Now, it is a completely different story. He climbs the door posts, climbs the walls (this is literal), jumps up on the counter, dining room table, on top of the fish tank, on the couch, gets into my purse, into grocery bags, attacks the bananas left out in a bowl, runs from one end of the house to other like a bullet. He is driving me MAD! I got him fixed 2 weeks ago, thinking that would calm him down, but he is still bad, if not WORSE! We've tried stray bottles, citrus smells, tapping on the nose/head, yelling a stern no after everything bad that he does. We don't know what to do anymore, he is just so bad, and adding to the stress of university, I don't know if I can handle it. I'm seriously wondering if he has a psychological disorder... please someone, help me!!!I forgot to mention that he actually attacks my legs, my arms, and my FACE!I have already tried the spray bottle, and he has about 100 toys around the house, a scratch post he doesnt even use. I give him more than enough attention playing with him and rubbing him down. I am trying my best to train this cat... it is getting tiring more
