Open Question: Why aren't my Ocellaris Clown Fish Aren't Getting Any Bigger?
Three years ago I bought two tank raised baby clown fish that were a little over 1/2 inch long each. One of them died and I eventually bought another which was a little under an inch long. They paired off and seem perfectly happy and healthy but they are not getting any bigger. What could be causing this? Some information: For around two years they have been housed in a 75 gallon fish only aquarium with around 70 lbs. of live rock, two filters and a protein skimmer. The water parameters are good and they are fed once a day...sometimes a mixture of flake food or pellets and sometimes live or frozen food. They have healthy appetites. Their tank mates are a Royal Tang, a Neon Goby and a Striped Damsel as well as a cleanup crew consisting of starfish, snails and crabs. Everyone seems to get along fine and there doesn't appear to be any problems except for the fact that the clown fish haven't grown perceptibly since I acquired them. I can't seem to find any information about this online. moreOpen Question: why rbc of fishes, amphibians and reptiles have nucleus?

So to all the raw feeders out there: I bought duck necks and river trout at the store today. I've fed my cat chicken wings and chicken necks before, so I assume the duck necks would be fine, but what about the bones? It just seems much larger, is the bone also much harder for him to chew up? My other question is whether it's a good idea to feed the raw trout. My cat is a Norwegian Forest and in nature, they would hunt for fish as well as rodents. So he should be equipped to process it, but I'm a little worried about the little bones. Also I heard tapeworm is more common in raw fish then raw meat, would freezing kill it? I freeze all my meat before defrosting and serving. Is it safe to feed him the trout raw, or should I just cook it for myslef and give him little cooked pieces minus the bone? moreOpen Question: Artists who do things in boxes or wrapped in things?

Hi I'm a kid and I've just got a 2 foot long tropical aquarium with a standard inner pump & filter box set that is the pump is in the aquarium but the filter box is on top of the tank and I was wondering does the Aquarium filter need to be running the whole day to be effective or can I leave it on on alternate days or .. say 5-6 hours a day instead of the whole day. I want the fishes to feel comfortable by removing all their waste but still be environmentally friendly by not wasting electricity [for the filter only no air pump at all] as my country still uses coal to generate electricity on the other hand my mom keep nagging about the electricity bill at the end of the month .. the appliance running the whole day are the filter box as well as the Fridge ,, the rest of the electrical goods do not run the whole day as for power vampire goods like Air conditioner we do have it but it's never on !! Pls help me any advice will be helpful .. thx in advance !!!Thanks guys for ur support .. oh ya Regarding Julie L post .. I'm living in Malaysia which happens to be a tropical climate so I don't use heaters at all the only thing running is the lights (1or 2 hours max) and the filter so far now 24 hours .(I'm asking to cofirm)!! moreOpen Question: How strong is the presence of Math in every day life and everywhere in the world?
For example: a tree falling on a car which is going 100 km per hour down a mountain, and kills the man inside. It seems to me that there was precise math going on there, for the tree to fall at just that time to just the place that would kill that person. Or the math that brings computers and the internet to life... or the math that puts 2 people in harmony with each other in the world, meeting on the day that they do, or saying "I love you" at the time that they first confess the words. Is math present in Chemistry, science, cooking, eating? Is it present in the way our body responds to what we do on a daily basis? Or in ecosystems that allow fish to live well outside of their natural environment? Is it present for how many animals in the world must be living and dying at any one time in order to feed the population of the world well? Is there a limit to the uses of math? Or does it go on forever like the value of pi.... ? And if there is no limit to the use of math... does that mean that we ultimately live in the Matrix? moreOpen Question: Fish Experts Please Help?

This is driving me CRAZY. Everything in my house is unhealthy. Everything, hot dogs, milk (Not the good kind), hamburgers, cake, pizza, ice cream, etc. The thing is, she ******* knows I want to lose weight yet she never helps. All she buys is the worst possible things to eat. And if I see Twinkies left right on the counter in the middle of the night she knows I'm gonna eat it. She doesn't buy anything healthy, I told her too buy fish and brown rice, she did, for one day, the next day it was macaroni and cheese with HOT DOGS. I don't have a choice, and I'm being serious, I ask her too buy healthy things, she doesn't. And the odd thing is, the only person in my family who is anorexic skinny is my brother. He doesn't do anything at all, but play Call of Duty and eat cheese, hot dogs and pizza. How can this be? But never mind that, I have no choice but too fast. I am probably going to water fast, cereal fast I don't know. It doesn't matter, I won't gain anything back, if I break out of it slowly. Seriously, when is the last time you have seen a fat girl fasting? There all anorexics, but I just want to lose weight. I don't have enough energy to get up and workout, I'm still trying to fix that, but whats the point if you have a mother that buys soda, junk food and has the same fatty foods for dinner every ******* DAY?! (If you read this and gave me an answer, Bless you.) moreOpen Question: Rate My Beginner Fish Tank?

Was supping a cup of tea in a Tooting café early this week, and heard what sounded like a same sort of el-pee...but this time, with Abba covers - neither of the lasses who were signing on this one sounded like Agnetha or Frida, but the instruments played was correct to every note - with only the drummer trying to give it some Cozy Powell-stylee on the more active of their tunes. It reminded me of the time when I actually bought one; 'Hot Hits', I think it was called - it usually had a number after it, but I've forgotten it now...the tunes ranged from Diana Ross' 'Touch Me In The Morning' (which was the reason I bought it - to see if it sounded like the 'real thing' - and Gary Glitter's 'I'm The Leader...'. I was one of the many million who bought his tunes then). And of course not forgetting the lass on the the album cover - she was either swimming or fishing...and like many on these covers, half-dressed, and so would get masses of spotty teenage boys between the age of 14 to twenty buying the damn things. If anyone actually does remember them - what would be the 'value' of such pieces now? Are they treated like, say, rare Northern Soul 45's - or do owners of music stores blu-tack them along the stair walls leading to their shops? moreOpen Question: Can You Put Fish,Turtles,&,Crabs In The Same Tank?

Her natural color is all white but on one side she has scales that are turning a dark blue. She also seems bloated/swollen but the thing is she swims fine and is eating as usual. Had to re-post as I had posted under completely the wrong question! I've also added some more details... Please be patient with this one - there is a back story! I have a cold water tank (approx 100 litre) with one common goldfish, three fantails and four yellow/black platys. All seemed healthy and happy. Due to a stupid mistake with the filter system (my filter has an outlet tube which, after a water change has to be primed or there is no flow... guess what I didn't do), I allowed the tank to drop its water params / oxygen levels severely and although my other fish weathered it, my common goldfish almost died. I came home from work to find him floating and barely alive. I immediately isolated him into an emergency container with fresh water and he perked up within an hour. I kept him there for three days, keeping the water fresh all the time and he reacted brilliantly - his colour returned to normal, he became as active as ever and was feeding normally. In the mean time, I fixed the water params in the main tank, primed the filter and got everything back as it should be - all water tests were fine after 24hrs (ammonia, nitrates etc where they should be). The fantails and platys are all fine - I was lucky. I then returned the common goldfish back to the main tank, and treated the tank with anti-stress conditioner. After a few days, I noticed that the common goldish was struggling with one of the platys attacking his fins. I've kept an eye on them, and it is just the one platy (I can tell them apart!) that keeps nipping. My poor common goldfish now has some badly degraded fins and over the last day or so I've noticed what looks like white spot. My main question is - is the white spot BECAUSE of the fin nipping, or did the platy attack the fins because of white spot? Alternatively could it actually be fin rot? Because of all the damage to the fins, it's really hard to compare to the pictures I've found on line. What should I do? Treat for white spot and see what happens or treat for fin rot? I've asked in two local fish stores here in my part of the UK and received totally opposite advice. Any help or suggestions would be gratefully received - my poor common goldfish is my original fish, I'm really fond of him and hate to see him suffering. Also, should I remove the offending platy or will treating the issue stop the fin nipping? An experienced contributor has suggested that the ammonia levels are high due to overstocking, but my tests don't show that. I have also had it pointed out that I shouldn't have platys and goldfish together - my mistake, I listened to one of the pet shop people rather than checking it out properly. I don't have / can't afford a second full time tank so will look to find the platys a new home. moreOpen Question: Check list for new syrian hamster?
