Resolved Question: Drilling laminated glass aquarium ??
I have a 180 gallon glass aquarium that I'm thinking of drilling for a sump. The glass is all laminated bottom and sides. I know that tempered glass can not be drilled, but what I would like to know is do aquarium manufacturers use tempered glass to laminate? I bought the tank second hand and it does not have any markings or trade signs to say were the tank was made or any instructions not to drill. I'm looking to drill the bottom pane of glass. thanks for your comments. Andrew moreResolved Question: narcissistic personality disorder? NPD?
All in the family, come from a normal average family they do very well, the problems I am having is with my brother now, we pretty much had a fall out and I don't believe I will be talking to him for some time. My brother drinks a lot, has had all kinds of drinking issues when he was younger and now his job he has has changed him a lot, being a firefighter he feels he is higher then other people, others are civilians and he is is a authority figure. When he comes to visit us which he lives hours away, will come and buy a hundred dollars of alcohol, drink get faded, drunk sometimes and act like a ass and a over emotional person with not being very coherent, his girlfriend does not drink but will smoke cannabis sometimes and when she brings up the drinking problem will get all mad and say he has no problem and that she is a drug user and uses cannabis, she does very well in school and is a biomedical chemist and he will go and tell my parents and alll kind of insecure stuff. cannabis is no big deal to me, even though my family does not use it, they know it is not a hard drug and she is responsible enough to use it and we live in a state where cannabis is not looked upon bad and pretty much legal. Found out I used cannabis, I do fine, I am a engineer, computer sci student and I don't drink but he went and told on me and said I need counseling and made all these assumptions to my parents caused he searched my room and found a syringe with my coral reef aquarium which is used for the reef tank which the parents know all about but told them that I am a druggie and other people and pretty much my dad said to keep stuff like this in family and don't assume, and he gets all very angry and says you enable him and then he hates hearing about how he drinks too much. He acts very confident and when he does not get his way he gets all mad like the wedding they are to have in a year, his girlfriend's family is putting 40 thousand so far into it and is mad that my dad is not putting 40k or in it too, my dad rather put the money into a house since houses out here cost around 700k and up for just a ok house. I tell my dad he narcissistic and just thinks of himself even though he acts all nice to my parents it is because all the money they spend on him whenever he ask for it and when he doesn't get it he gets like a baby, I am very appreciative when they spend money on me and really feel bad sometimes, now he won't talk to me and thinks I am druggie daemon scum even though I made the mistake of protecting him when he was younger like 3 years ago when I found out he was using hardcore drugs and didn't say anything and now he wants to be like some hero telling on me for what I did... I am sure some replies will say, u use cannabis, I am a junkie, I feel if you are smart and have will power and if it is for you and understand concepts and understand how a gateway drug works you will be fine like me and my brothers gf talks about. When he told on me with all this crap I told my dad everything cause I was tired of this crap cause he thinks he is not a civilian and likes to bring all this drama to the table. I forgot what I was talking about lol, have a broken neck and a cast right arm hand just go with the guestions withiun an dnswer awau moreResolved Question: Was he a user or did he like me? What do you think?
Do you think it is over between me and Justin? I met a guy online around 6 weeks ago. We first started talking online just texting for about two weeks. Then he called me and asked me out. The first date was out to a mexican restaurant and then we walked at the park. He waited a couple of days and then called me again and we went out of town and spent the entire day at an aquarium and to an outside cafe with a band playing. It was very nice. The next date he invited me on his boat and he told me that he never made the first move with a woman. She always made the first move with him. 15 minutes after he told me that he started initiating sexual contact with me and we soon moved into the lower part of the boat for sex (our first time). After that, he still contacted me regularly but mainly through texts and would say little things like "good morning love" etc and this went on all throughout the day. I told him that I prefer the phone and then he would call me and then go back to texting. We went to a concert and had a blast and he wanted me to move in with him but I told him that I could not. It was way too early. Then he invited me and my son over to his house for a cookout and to meet his family. My son slept in his spare bedroom. He was all over me and couldn't keep his hands off of me. I was going to sleep in the guest room but wound up sleeping with him and we had sex about 5 times. He was excited by my touch constantly and couldn't seem to keep his hands to himself and was kissing me all over the place all throughout the day and night. Anyway, that was last weekend. I never heard from him Monday or Tuesday and then Wednesday about midafternoon he sends me a text "Hey hon, how are you? Did you get my text?" I never got a text or anything. I answered him no and then I told him by text that I didn't think this was going to work out and that something didn't feel right. I have not heard from him since. My question is this and please answer me honestly. I can take it. Do you think he was just using me for sex and that was his ultimate purpose in seeing me? He was giving me all kinds of compliments and kept telling me how pretty and sweet and innocent that I looked and he said my body was driving him wild, etc. I feel he used me but I am not for sure. I guess I am gullible and wanted to believe that he really felt the same way that I did about him. What do you think? moreResolved Question: Could I have artists' opinions? Would this look stupid?
My question is not about the life in the aquarium, but about a random aesthetic/art question. Background Info: I am planning to get large fish tank soon. I am positive that I want live plants. My past experience with aquariums is of the tacky variety (manufactured colorful gravel, manufactured plants etc) and I found that no matter how nice the fish were, it didn't have the peaceful look and feel that an aquarium should. I would love for my aquarium to give the feeling that these do: http://www.hemmy.net/2007/08/06/aquarium-art-by-takashi-amano/ (not gonna happen :P) On the other hand, I am a big believer in balance/ duality and for that reason I think the super super clean, natural, and beautiful tank is a little dishonest. I would like for there to be a message that man is destroying nature, but also symbolism of rebirth, and beauty born from something ugly and foul. I enjoy symbolism of the phoenix and the lotus flower. Alright enough background info, bare with me. My idea is to use five or ten man modern made objects and to incorporate them in a way that they will not be instantly noticeable. I want it to be kinda sci-fi or post apocalyptic, but very unobtrusive. It should not alter the peaceful feeling of the tank or be noticeable to someone who is briefly looking at it. Some ideas for the found objects are: broken cellphone, shell casing, broken goggles, calculator, fuel canister, bottle cap, broken light bulb, or any form of rubble or debris. All of the items would be mostly concealed by other natural items such as plants, soil, and rocks. I plan to use a dark soil in either case because it will bring out the color of the fish more. Is this silly or cool? Please give me a detailed answer. Half of me thinks this is a fresh and cool idea the other half is raising it's eyebrow because this idea was born when I was half asleep and tipsy last night. I'm not an artist so this is where I need guidance. I would love to get an answer or two from some modern artists, landscapers, graphic designers, writers, or anyone who works with these sorts of ideas or art. "Omg wow! This is so modern and awesome!" says something inside of me. "I drank too much coffee and that's why I'm excited about this idea" says a different something inside of me. Please agree and provide more ideas, or disagree and provide alternative themes that could use found objects or cheap objects for decoration. I'm going to resist my temptation to award a best answer right away because I praying for a plethora of opinions ;-) Thx for your time guys, Peace!Jay thanks for the response, but the question was about how it would look. I wasn't looking for advice about the health effects. I am obviously not going to put trash in the tank without figuring out how to make it inert. Maybe it is impossible to do this, maybe not but the question was about the art portion of it. I wouldn't do anything to potentially harm my aquarium without researching it thoroughly. :) moreResolved Question: so called business partner locked me out?
Trying to keep this as short as possible. I had my own aquarium shop for years. Then I had to close that business for financial reasons in 2007. Just as I was preparing to move closer to my family in 2008, one of my former clients approached me and offered to start another aquarium shop with me and he had another business. I had $50,000 worth of inventory that I still had and he agreed to be the financier. We found a location, and signed a lease. I had pushed to get an attorney to write up a contract, he felt that was not necessary and we wrote up a hand written contract agreeing to the terms of our partnership, detailing our roles and the monthly salary I would require until the business could sustain itself and we both signed it in his office. After we signed this contract, I asked for a copy of that contract, he said he didnt have a copier and never gave me a copy of our contract. We partially opened the shop early in 2009 with only minimal sales due to the lack of new product and no presence of aquarium systems for livestock, which took 3 months for him to agree to purchase and another month or so to set up. So, from the store opening to now, he didnt pay the salary we agreed upon to work at the store to build a customer base, and my savings were depleted long ago. I felt like i had no choice but to take the cash sales since he was not adhering to his end of contract. A month ago, he mailed me a 1099 from the cash sales, then stated that he could not do this business anymore. Then, that weekend we sold a little over 3k and then ended up with our best month and then commented that we may be able to could go on with our venture. Well, the beginning of this week he changed the alarm code and locked me out. Our blowout occured on Thursday morning, which I have a recording and a witness to, denying we were in a partnership and claimed that I was less than an employee, and claimed the payments he made to me early in 2008 were for inventory. Now, in 2008, he had me working for him and he wrote "inventory" on the checks he provided to me for working for him, stating it was for tax purposes. So, the way I am thinking about this: if the 2008 money was for "inventory" purchase, there is a balance due to me for the difference from what he paid. Further, if he claims that I am not a business partner, which there IS a signed contract in his posession at least, but if I am just an employee, then I am owed the difference of what I worked and what I had to take out of the cash sales. And, another way of thinking about this is if he felt that he was paying me forward in 2008 towards our agreement, he only paid 4.8 months forward and owes the difference from the agreement. I want to know if I have any rights and what I can do about this since I am flat broke. I feel like he has locked me out and kicked me out of the business because he knows that I cannot afford to pay a lawyer and has kept the only copy of the contract there was. My biggest sin in this scenario is trusting him. Is there anyone that can help me or give me some sort of advice? moreResolved Question: Is this a case of false advertising?
Hey guys. I recently stood up to my boss as I felt he was breaking the law. Here is the story. I work for a tropical-fish and aquarium shop in Australia. We were selling a 2ft fish tank, stand and lids for a competitive price. We only had one of them though, and the price was a special. So the last remaining tank was merely a display. My boss told me that customers could pay for their tank, and then come and pick it up when we had more tanks in. They had to pay in full. No refunds. Here is the catch. The tank on display was made in a factory, by machinery. All in all, I have never had a fault with one of these tanks. They are beautifully made, never leak, and the black silicone at their edges is smooth and perfect. The tank on display, which customers would be paying for in full, was one of these tanks. But all the tanks they would be picking up later in the week would be hand made, by my manager (not the boss/proprietor). When I mentioned my concern to the manager, the one who was making the new tanks, he took offense, as though I was criticizing his work, claiming that 'you can never expect a hand-made tank to be as good as one made in a factory by machines'. Exactly my point, I said. Customers would be paying in full for a product that would hold water, be of the same dimensions, but would not be made to the same quality standards. Silicone laid by hand is never as neat or foolproof as when it is laid by machines, and the silicone would also be clear rather than black. There was no little asterisk or disclaimer saying that the tank would be anything different to the one on display. customers would be completely unaware of the difference. So I went to the top, and nearly lost my job, as I was not interested in mistreating my customers. But did I do the right thing? What my boss was doing seemed to be at the very least immoral, if not illegal. People were paying for a product, then receiving instead a product which was from a different source, of different quality and also with different colored silicone. My boss and manager are really pissed at me at the moment. But they did get a sign put-up on the tank detailing what customers would be receiving... so I may have had a point. So, did I do the right thing. moreResolved Question: There's a spirit in my room which doesn't let me sleep...?
I am 25 year old man of Indian origin. i am Hindu by birth and a College topper in my BBA course. I first experienced paranormal thing while still in a Boarding School 130 kms from my home. I saw a dream about a very very powerful spirit of an old women in a room of my previous house. She was so frightning and powerful that she could engulf anyone going near that room into her. We shifted to -our own new house when i was 15 and then i dreamt again of 3 women in Red Sari (Newely wed) hovering in mid-air in my brothers room. After 2 years i completed my studies and came back home. Was sleeping in my brothers room and had that dream again. I asked my mother was anything wrong with the room she said...'There are 3 women in this room (once a 7 yr old girl of my mom's sister told her) and i did not know that.. I was amazed. Then while studying for college where i stayed alone and was ill with TB. I left the it and came back home. From there on i could not sleep alone in my room. I had night tremors. Sleeping paralysis, almost every night. But for the first time 4 yrs. Back in the night while sleeping in my room i saw a wheatish hand tapping me to wake up...i saw his face....he was into his mid 40's and sported beard....he told me sleep on the ground...i want to sleep on this bed...next morning i woke up sleeping on ground...he wouldn't let me sleep on bed...he would scare me if did that....so i shifted my matress on my carpet floor...i slept there without any problem for about 1 year..then he told me to get out of the room and he said it belongs to him....i started sleeping on bed again ignoring him...i also had an aquarium in my room of whose fishes went dead same night....next day i had a terrible sleeping paralysis attack and i went out in the living room to sleep on my couch...he followed me there also and wouldn't let me sleep....i could not sleep at nights for last 3 years...only sleeping for about 4-5 hrs in daytime. I do not worship. But belives in god. 3 months back one of my close relative got murdered and she came in my dream revealing the sequence of events lead to her death and she asked me to help her and she told me that she will take care of the evil spirit in my room...since then i sleep in my room on my bed without any problem...Until last night a small boy of age 13 (pale white) came in my dreams again and accused my dead relative for causing his death by burning....he wept and told his story that how my dead relative killed him and made to appear like an accident....i felt anger towards her and cursed her in my dreams that she deserved to get murdered for doing this to an innocent boy...as soon as i did that...the boy started laughing and showed his real self of that 40 plus wheating bearded evil spirit... This is not a story but my real life.... I was petrified again and want some help... I am also having very very negative and depressive thoughts...what to do? moreResolved Question: Are these gerbils still safe for intro?
I rushed into things and put my gerbils in the playpen. They are a few month old female gerbils, one is a golden agouti the other is a black. In the play pen they did not go together but on occasion they did sniff each other's butt and underneath their head. They even did a "69" position sniffing. I decided to mix up the bedding in my aquarium and i threw them in there. The same thing happened. Although there was one little scruffle where my golden agouti did a digging motion and it happened to kick the black one. I think it was pretty good that they did not fight though as in ball rolling. Today I made a careless mistake however. The black one is not hand tamed so i scooped it up with my plastic igloo. The golden agouti however enjoys hopping on my hand and climbing around it. While I was waiting for the golden one to stand on my hand I was holding the igloo as well and the black one decided to take a jump and landed right in the golden agouti side. Now I decided to see what would happen and they did their usual sniffing. But then it became a big fight and they were rolling on a ball all over. I got my gloves and managed to break it up in 2 seconds. However my golden agouti had a lightly bleeding ear and a lightly bleeding leg. The fur was stained but it was not heavily bleeding. She seems to be fine as well. I cant say if the black one is hurt as the fur is too dark. Will this lil mishap effect the entire introduction?I also would like to try and intro these two before my 14-day vet assured guarantee is up with pet smart. moreResolved Question: What do you think about this? My hamster doesn't seem to like me and i just got her yesterday and she is a little afraid of my hand. She took some food from me today but that was about it. Okay, so my 2.5 tank I got had a minibow whisper filter that was a bit too strong front my male crowntail betta, so I went and bought a new one! The filter is a "Tom Aquarium Products: Mini Internal Filter" The back says: Complete 3-stage filteration-mechanical, chemical and biological. Foam cartride quickly traps unwanted waste material while the premium carbon removes other pollutants and odors. Choice of spray bar attachent or flow diffuses promotes optimum surface water movement. Attaches easily to wall with 5 sution cups. Voltage is 12V) for safe operation in water. Adjustable water flow up to 45 gallons per hour. It says for 1 to 5 gallon aquariums! Now I also got a heater! The tempreture of our house stays around 74-78 degrees, because it fluctuates so much. The heater I got is a Hydor Mini Heater for 2-5 gallon aquariums. Here's the specs: FOR MINI 7,5 W Size: 5,7 x 2,3 inches Aquarium: 2 gal, temp increase: approx 5 F Aquarium: 5 gal temp increase: approx 4 F FOR MINI 15 W Size: 6,2 x 2,4 inches, Aquarium: 5 gal, temp increase: approse 5 F Aquarium: 10 gal, temp increase: approx 4 F It says that the difference between the amibient room temp and the aquarium temp. reached by using MINI can vary due to location and lighting. Always check water tempreture with a thermometer. I don't have a themomert....but I put the aquarium on an old TV shelf that has a shelve over it, so it's fairly shaded... Will this heater and filter be safe in my tank for my betta? :) Any tips, etc etc etc would be great with these products! I changed the filter because the other filter (Mini Bow Whisper) made too strong of a current...My betta had to constantly swim and he hid often behind the filter itself...where the current wasn't as strong. So I though changing it may be better. Also! I have painted nails (acrylic nails with black polish) so I'm iffy about putting my hands in the water....My dad got me some latex gloves (The big yellow ones people clean with) that have cloth inside....and he got me some rubber, doctors gloves. Are these safe to use when adding and cleaning my tank? ONE MORE THING! ^^; When I do my water changes, I usually allow my water to sit for 24 hours with dechlorinator drops in it....He is on maracyn at the moment for finrot...do I still need to continue with my water procedures or change a half gallon? How much do I add for the water change? Do I do a full tank change with the maracyn or....? I'm confused. I only add 1/4 of a packet per day, but do I need to do a water change with the maracyn? I'm confused on my water changes for a 2.5 gallon tank.....This IS my first time using a tank so....I'm very cautious.... Thanks so much! For the 'house much do I add to a half gallon' was referring to the medicine ^^;I, again, would like to point out that the 2.5 gallon is perfect for him...it's a lot bigger than I thought....he's the ONLY fish I have...there are no others, and there are 2 plants, fake, and two bulbs growing. My parent's will not allow for a 5 gallon, which what I perfered, and the pet store said it wasn't needed, which is why I ended up with the 2.5 in the first place...^^; moreResolved Question: where can i buy a cheap glass tank that isnt second hand?

My daughter is dating this guy, Cody. Cody has a questionable step dad. I can’t help it but feel a bit worried about how Cody may could be like his step dad. His step father is a neighbor of a coworker of mine who regularly host a card game night. This man was a tunnel rat before he got into SOG during Vietnam War. After he got out, he made some attempt to box and kickboxing professionally and worked as FBI agent for a long time before he met Cody mother. Cody was only 3 at the time. They eventually have a son and daughter. But he was in and out of their life due to job until Cody was ten. That’s when he finally settled down and works for local police department. From what my coworker told me, he told me to keep eyes on Cody for in case he show any exhibition of his step father’s bad side. He told me a lot of things about their relationships. He told me that Cody could end up being like his step father but he hope Cody got lot of his mother (whom is very sweet and caring) good side. But he also have done something that is rather questionable such as letting Cody work for a year then help him with paying for his very first out of the country trip by himself for the summer. Cody turned seventeen at the time he was in Europe. Cody now owns and runs a large aquarium store and pond construction company, do mixed martial arts and kickboxing. He also runs a online business selling tea out of his house. On other hand, Cody’s younger brother and sister who are blood related to his step dad have different relationship and life. Cody’s brother got kicked out when he was 17 due to getting expelled from school and have been working various odd jobs and living on friends’ couch and is 19 now. His step dad seems to leave daughter who is 16 pretty much up to mother and usually treat her like a princess. I can’t help it but wondering what kind of impact this could have on Cody. I’m a bit worried about him because I really don’t want my daughter to be with someone who will turn out to be like this man. Are there any sign I should be watching for from this guy my daughter is with?May it is just me, but his step dad just seems rather abusive and I’m a bit worried that Cody probably has some of that trait in him. If my grandchild was treated the way Cody was by his step dad, I’d not take that too well! moreResolved Question: My daughter is dating a guy with a questionable step dad?
My daughter have been dating this guy, Cody who is 24, a mixed martial arts fighter and kick boxer and also owns a large aquarium store that also do pond construction. He also runs a side business out of his own home, selling various tea mixes on line. Cody seems pretty decent so far. My daughter seems to be totally in love with him and is totally open with him which I’ve never saw her being that way with other guys before. However what really bothers me is, this Cody’s step father is rather questionable. Cody’s step dad was very strict on some subject and very loose on others. Once Cody got caught sneaking into a abandoned factory and was taken to detention center. But he also have done something that is rather questionable such as letting Cody work for a year then help him with paying for his very first out of the country trip by himself for the summer. Cody turned seventeen at the time he was in Europe. Since I don’t know Cody that well, I can’t help it but feel a bit uneasy about him. I already can see he doesn’t tolerate people too well, is usually rather aloof, hardly show any emotions, extremely cutthroat when it comes to business, and other things that his step dad also exhibited. To make things worse, Cody doesn’t seems fond of children at all! But my wife says that Cody show lot of his mother’s side toward her and my daughter and is incredible gentle and loving toward my daughter. He also never tried to stop her from living her life. She even told me that once when my daughter told Cody that she’s thinking about doing student exchange program, Cody encouraged her to and helped her look into it. Should I be worried about him?He know because they have live by each other for about 13 years and their wife are very good friend and they usually regularly see the kids. moreResolved Question: my hammy wont hold still?
I got a teddy hamster exactly 1 month & 1 day ago. I named her muffin. Anyway, muffin has gotten used to me. She has never bit me, except one time, and that was the first night we brought her home (i was trying to scoop out soiled bedding and she didnt know what my hand was lol) anyway, she's a really smart hamster. In fact if i say climb shell go to the side of her cage and start climbing the bars (i made a special spot that she likes to go to and theres fluff at the bottom so she wont get hurt) =] And she has learned her name and comes to me when I call her. Shell eat off of my hand. And Every time I open the cage door, even if it's just to put food in, she'll race to the door and climb up my arms! lol =] Im so happy with my hammy, but the only problem is, shes too hyper!! I love watching her race around her cage, go 100 miles per hour on her wheel, burrow 3 inches deep into her bedding (i got an aquarium with 5 inches) and sometimes she goes nuts chewing on her chewy sticks! But i'd like for her to be a bit more calm when outside the cage. Not that i dont like a happy hyper hamster, but shes kinda hard to handle. Im a first time owner and i heard syrians are easier to handle and calmer but shes so hyper lol. When i try to handle her she runs all on my arms, up and down. Not liek shes scared, but just hyper, because when i put her back in she bites the cage door (SMART HAMMY). And I'm not able to hold her as in cupping my hands around her because she tries to squeeze out. She just dont wanna sit still haha how can i chill her out? =] sometimes i give her plain oat cereal (cheerios) and she'll sit still for a while nibbling on it hehe any help appreciated! moreResolved Question: Help with my turtle ! I start off in this long hall way, like a pavilion except stretched. So I walked down the hall way to this room which looked to be like an aquarium exhibit. When I got right up to the entrance, bunch of different animals flew out to me. There was this group of odd flying heads that came out (they looked like goblin heads) and one of them flew face to face with me, then they took off down the way I came in. (Now mind you, it wasn't a night mare, these things didn't frighten me, they only interested me). Then, a bunch of levitating fish flew out, and then a single crow flew out. I put my hand out and made a perch with my finger, it landed on my hand, then jumped down to the floor and just stood there. So I then entered the aquarium and there was this gift shop with a bunch of items on display. I noticed all the items on display were toys I used to play with when I was a child. (Now, the weird thing is, in reality, I had never seen any of these toys, but in the dream they were what I played with as a child). So I was examining them when I noticed my mom's friend was with me, and was smirking that I was examining these children's toys. Next I noticed, a guy was next to me who I never seen before. We began talking about something I don't remember, but it was only small talk. Before he left, he gave me these tickets that enabled me to buy some of the toys. I thanked him sincerely, and was shocked by his kindness. I then bought a few of the toys, and the dream ended with me holding one of them. I have no freakin' idea what this means, and it's been bugging me. moreResolved Question: Moving house in a car with my fish. How?
Our fish are 2 goldfish. We have a big aquarium made of glass, and a plastic one which is a lot lighter. Our original idea was to transport them to their old plastic tank and fill it up to a low level and rap some plastic around the top. Will this be suitable for the fish? Is there a completely different way you have suppose to transport fish? Thanks. (The journey will only take 15 minutes). And if we are going to take them in the small aquartium should we hand hold it? Should we keep the plants in there? moreResolved Question: aquarium shocked me.........?
i have a 55 gal freshwater aquarium and i was reaching in there the other day to put a plant back in the gravel and it hurt when i put my hand it it only hurt on the surface but it felt like a shock. i thought that maybe i had a cut and the water and chemicals and stuff made it hurt but today i leaned my arm on it and i touched a screw on the hood and it zapped me. i figured it was the heater cuz some of the splash from the filter had gotten on the top of the heater so i unplugged it and took it out and it still zapped me so i thought maybe its the light cuz the light got some water on it but i took that off and it still zaps. the fish swim around happily right where it zaps me and seems to have no affect on them any ideas what might be zapping me the only other thing thats electric is the filter. do you think maybe there is something in the water that is making it feel like a shock most of it is on my fingers but one was on my arm.ok its the light but i dont see how the chord doesnt come near the water and its sitting on the plastic thing that it fits into and everythingi found another culprit i use a penguin 200 filter and the darn biowheel in it causes so much splash and noise and i never realized how much it did but its making the water rot my hood so i took the wheel out and its much quieter and no spray so hopefully that will help moreResolved Question: Do people not see how much pain they cause?
I sit here and read question after question about how miserable people are for one simple reason. The way other people treat them. Either they are cheated on, lied to, been made fun of for being too short, too fat, too skinny, too white, too Black, too straight or too gay. I just counted and read FIVE different questions which mention or suggest the author is contemplating suicide because of the hurtful things they endure out of the mouths and at the hands of other human beings. There is NO other species who attacks and kills members of their own species the way human beings do. You'll see two lions fighting over mating rights. Never do you see two lions fighting or killing each other because one has a slightly different color coat than the other. I had two gourami fish in my aquarium once---when the one started to die, the other swam along side it and tried to keep it afloat and help it. I have no doubt if it had been two humans, one human would have taken its foot and pushed it to the bottom of the tank. I don't get it. We are supposed to be the superior race as humans---we HAVE a conscience. Why do we act less compassionate towards each other, than beings who have no conscience do to members of their own species?? By holding people to these impossibly high, artificial, man-made ideals of "perfection," do some people not see you are literally taking away other human beings' desire to live??? I don't know. I am beginning to think we as a human race are becoming so self-absorbed we truly care about nothing but ourselves anymore. And I'm not talking about the stupid questions on here by people who are just fishing for attention and reactions. I'm talking about the people who are asking serious questions or expressing serious pain. Yet, I'm not surprised no one has answered this question.Hey, jicer...I do remember you!! Excellent answer! moreResolved Question: I'd really like your honest critique of this...?
I just wrote this in a couple days. It's not serious or anything but I'd still like to know what you think about it. Sorry, I know it's a long read, but it's appreciated. I haven't actually read the whole finished thing yet :D I usually write things alot darker than this so this is the first happy thing i've written in a long time. So thanks alot! Critique as harsh as you want, i'm definitely not easily offended haha ____________________________________________- She was in a room with four doors and no windows. Also in the room was a single chair, and in front of the chair a single desk with a pad of paper in the middle of it. She sat in the chair, contemplating which door she should open first. She chose the one facing her. Directly behind this door was a tree, and hanging from the tree was a corpse with a rope around its neck. Much of the flesh had already decomposed, and sections of skeleton were visible. This land was expansive, dismal and grey-skied. If not for a red river appearing to be a few miles behind the tree, it would be completely dark. She was horrified with this discovery and quickly shut the door. She leaned against the door, breathing heavily and attempting to maintain composure. Though the door lead to a world that was uninviting, curiosity lingered and made her wonder what was behind the other doors. So she walked to the subsequent door, to the right, and opened it. Behind this door was a small room made completely of wood. There were black beetles eating the wall on each side. The front and back walls were not infested, nor was the floor. She walked in, inquisitive, watching the small insects chew their way through the restrictive wall. One beetle crawled towards her, and she picked it up carefully with the tips of her right fingers and placed it in her left palm. She was entranced by its brilliant black eyes, then startled as it crumbled to dirt. She shook the dirt off her hand and exited the room hastily. She was wary of opening the third door. The first two rooms had not been pleasant. She opened the door, anticipating a bleak landscape. Though it seemed inevitable that this place would be dark, it was enchantingly bright. Vivid butterflies and flowers were among the lovely imagery, feeling like eye candy. She was overcome with joy at seeing a world so unlike what she expected, and tried to walk in. However, she could not. It was as if there was an invisible wall. A butterfly fluttered toward her, and spread its wings. On them, was the message, “Open the other door.” It then flew away. This came as a disappointment. What was so important about the other rooms? She opened the final door, and saw her reflection in transparent glass. Water from the red river from the first room was behind the glass, teeming with black and grey fish, making the room feel like an aquarium. Suddenly, one stopped and looked at her. This fish was unlike the others, because it was orange and appeared to have a scar on one of its gills. She peered into its silver eyes and it looked at her brown. She thought the fish looked sad, as if it were trapped in a horrid place it didn’t want to be in. It then suddenly faced left, the side without the scarring, and on its body was the word “smile.” She smiled at the fish and the fish smiled at her. She felt joyous inside watching it, and abruptly noticed that there were no longer any other fish. The smiling fish swam away, and she looked longingly after it. Closing the door, she wondered what to do next. She walked to the chair and sat. She stretched her arm across the desk and rested her head on it, pondering. The door of the aquarium room opened and out walked the smiling fish! It walked on its tail end and she watched it approach her, unaware how abnormal this sight would seem to an onlooker. “What did you think of the rooms?” the fish inquired. She continued laying her head on her arm, closing her eyes and thinking of each room, and of individual atmosphere. “Some were like nightmares, and some were like dreams.” She responded. “You’re dreaming right now,” said the fish. “None of this is real, but all of it represents the real. Do you remember what was in the first room?” The first room was the epitome of a nightmare, and she remembered it quite clearly. “Yes.” The fish paused, and then answered. “Open the door again.” She did so. Now the corpse resembled her to the last detail, and she watched in revulsion as the black beetles climbed up the tree, traveled along the branch in which the body was hanging, and… She was shocked to see that they did not eat the flesh; instead, several of them bit through the rope until the corpse fell. A light appeared in the ominous sky in the form of the vivid butterflies, which all but one picked up the rope with their small feet and flew towards the red river. The one loose butterfly spread its wings, and “Follow” was indicated by the word and an arrow. The fish stood by the doorway, andknowing he could not possibly run fast enough on his diminutive tail fins, she scooped him up in her hand and ran, the butterfly flitting about her. She ran as fast as she could, and then randomly felt a rush of elation. She looked up at the butterflies hovering over the river, and saw that they no longer held the body. The river had run clear, as if purified. Out walked a living, breathing replica of herself. The replica walked towards her, and she was too stunned to move. It grasped and hugged her tightly, whispering in her ear, “Life is so precious.” She woke up at eight in the morning, as she usually did. For the past few days, it had been raining and storming, so the sunlight beaming on her face was unanticipated. She walked to her dresser, where her fish’s tank was, and fed it. She was surprised when the fish did not immediately swim towards his food, and realized she had accidently fed him painkillers from the bottle that was right next to his flakes. She removed themquickly and gave him his usual fare. She retrieved her journal from her desk, and while holding it remembered her peculiar dream. Not with clarity, but elements of it, such as a fish and a corpse. She was surprised at this morning. Not only was the sun out, she felt better than she had in a long time and could actually recall parts of her dream. She opened the journal, and while flipping to yesterday’s entry, saw that it was devoid of any writing. This befuddled her, and she looked up as she heard footsteps to her room. Her sister, physically much like her but emotionally so dissimilar, held a journal and stood at her doorway. “For a new start,” she said. “I read everything.” She felt angry until her sister walked to her, grasping and hugging her tightly. Her sister turned through pages in the journal she held until she got to the first one, then left. On it was written, Life is so precious. She felt overcome with love for her sister as never before, but could not quite fathomwhy it sounded so familiar.it is finished. it's a dream, she wakes up at the end, feeds her fish painkillers instead of flakes, then her sister comes with a new journal. the day before, she wanted to commit suicide. the fish in the dream is symbolic of her, and the corpse is symbolic of being rejuvenated. maybe i need to read it, i didn't think it was that bad :Dthat last part isn't part of the story, i was just explaining that to the first person. sorry :P (to the last person who posted)oh sorry. didn't mean to make you think i thought you were stupid, but people do make little accidental mistakes (or i do, :) if i didn't explain it in some way (and i don't think i'm explaining it in a word-for-word kind of way) it would just be a pointless dream. ?i just wrote this for fun in a few days. it's not supposed to be complicated, though i see what you mean :) thanks alot! moreResolved Question: bad fish accident, result: major issues, and endless dust in my aquarium?
Forgive how long this is.... but I wanted to explain why the hell im in this odd situation. Also, if your fish ever falls in a vent and is out of water for 4 minutes, you'll know how to save its life. :). I saved 7 jaguar cichlids from dying a horrid death 2 days ago. Someone was going to leave them in a bucket to die. They range from 3 to 6 inches. I was forced to put them into our new 80 gal, which we hadn't even bought media for. After adding the bacteria supplement, stress coat, and dechor, I dunked them in and hoped for the best. Heres where my issue begins! I bought the wrong filter for my tank. Forgot that I need a canister, or I can't put the lid on. Well................... I didnt know they jumped. The biggest one flops out onto the floor, then up into my uncovered air vent. (yea, oops.) After my boyfriend rips the wall apart (fish was pretty far down) and finally gets to the fish, it had been 4 minutes, and he was so covered you couldnt tell it was a fish. We ran and put him in a five gallon I had them in before I put them in the 80, and then took him to the kitchen sink, and switched him from one side to the other, (using bowls obviously) using our hands and the soft spray of my faucet to remove what we could. We did this for 3 to 4 minutes. We put him back in the tank, and he still had it all over him, and we had grim hopes. He cleaned himself off overnight, and since has been eating and carrying on like he's okay. Amazing ! I have cleaned out as much of the dust as I can, and it's made a world of difference. Here's my problem and heres where my question finally comes in. I need to treat them for diseases, they are obviously Icky. I'm worried about having the filter off for a month.... and I'm worried about juggling when to change water and when I shouldnt............ What do I do? ..... any advice would be very appreciated. T h a n k you. :)I'll be using coppersafe. moreResolved Question: I need help with Bettas!?
I need major help with Bettas. I have owned several of them in the past, and I have liked them a lot. I even had one in a bowl that lived for over a year! But, something happened just recently, that has made me become terrified of Bettas. About a week ago, my beloved Betta that I kept in a small bowl on top of my aquarium passed away. I had had him over a year, and he was very beautiful, and always very active. I missed him a lot, so I decided to get a new friend. I went to the pet store about an hour or two later. I purchased two male Bettas, and a small one gallon aquarium that came with a filter, an air pump, and a light. One of the Bettas where red, and the other was blue with a red-ish tent. When I got home, I set up the aquarium and I decided to put the red Betta in there. He seemed to be happy, but he wasn't very active at all. I named him Herald. I cleaned out one of the old bowls that I had kept a Betta in before, and I put the blue Betta in there. He seemed to be a lot more active than Herald. I then decided to name him Gerald. I thought that the matching names was very cute. haha. Well, the next morning Herald was floating all over the aquarium. At times he would just flip over on his side and just float to the bottom. At this point, I was very conserned. I tried to feed him, but he would not eat. I got on the internet and I researched about Betta Health Issues. I found nothing that matched Heralds condition. I kept checking in on him, and it seemed like he was only getting worse. About three hours later, he passed. But on the other hand, Gerald was doing just fine. He seemed very happy in his bowl, so I decided not to put him in the aquarium. That night I fed Gerald, and I decided to go watch a movie. The movie lasted about three hours. At that point I was ready to go to bed. I went to give Gerald one more check in though. I looked in his bowl, but there was 'nothing' in the bowl but the red gravels that I had put in there. I guess that common sense told me to look down, and I did. There was Gerald, lying in the floor, not making single move. I screamed, and my dad came running in there, he saw what I was starring at, and he put Gerald back in the bowl as quick as he could. Gerald was making no movements. But, then he started kicking his fins, and he was swimming! I fed him a little bit more, I was trying to help him regain his energy. He didn't eat much of it. My dad poured some water out of his bowl, just to make sure that this didn't happen again. The next morning Gerald ate only a little, and wasn't very active at all. I thought that he was going to be ok, but the next day he passed. From that day on everytime I walk in my room, I'm afraid that I will step on a slimy Betta! Now I am terrified of Bettas, and I am to terrified to even buy one! My questions are: Do you think that I should buy another Betta? If not, then what other type of fish would you recommend for me? And what do you think caused Herald to die? Thanks! moreResolved Question: My rat had babies- now what?
I purchased a rat from a pet store about 2 weeks ago for my daughter who is 4. The lady at the pet store said rats are a good choice for children as they rarely bite and are big enough to not get as hurt as easily as a hamster or as shy as a guienie pig. Anyhow I noticed she kept pulling clothes from my daughters floor into her cage, because at night we would put her on the floor of my daughters closet with the doors closed so the cat wouldnt bother her. Every morning she had pulled new piece of clothing through the bars and one morning she had pulled a pair of sweat shorts through and ate hooles through them and made it into a nest so I allowed her to keep them, then I noticed she was getting fatter. i told my mother I thought she was pregnaant and she said pet stores dont sell prego rats, and then she got thin again so I blew it off, I fed her daily and kept her water fresh, but I only clean her cage every 1 to 2 weeks, when I went to clean her cage she got very upset and I lifted up the shorts and there was a mass load of babies in the nest- I dont know how long they had been there, but we looked up pics online and thheyy looked to be 2 weeks- which means they are about 2 1/2 now. We tried sexing them and we got 6 boys and 6 girls, I also bought an aquarium for them to go in so they didnt crawl through the holes of the other cage. My question is what do I do now, do I feed them anything, when do I seperate the sexes? What do I do with them when Its time to let them go- i cant keep 12 rats. I would like to keep one though, Im assuming I should keep a girl eh? When do they open their eyes? If I do sell them how much does a hand raised rat go for? Can I sell them back to the pet shop? Thanks guys, any info I didnt think to ask would be good to know as well. moreResolved Question: What sort of Aquarium or hand made room should i create for putting 5-6 TURTLE babies...?

He wasn't cold or dead looking...just...lying...there...Anyway when I poked him he scampered across the aquarium (like he normally does) and just sits in the corner...staring... Then I walk out of the room and come back in and he's covered in bedding. Could my other gerbil have possibly kicked it all over him and he just didn't do anything? He's acting REALLY wierd. I kind of gently nudged him and he started acting like normal. He ran around a little bit and anxiously took the sunflower seed I gave him. Right now the other one is running around like crazy (as he normally does in the evening) and other one...is just..lying there in the nest, at this time he is normally playing and jumping around. Now he's just lying on the ground...his eyes half open. I nudged him just now and he ran across the aquarium and into a little wooden house type thing. WHATS WRONG WITH HIM? No he's not getting old because my other gerbil is 2 or 3 years old and he's joyfully running on his wheel. The one that is acting strange is only little more than a year old. Does this have anything to do with it...? Before he started acting strange I gave them a cardboard box from the soup I was eating (lol). I heard it was safe if there was no glue (which I made sure to rip the glued parts off) and that the ink didn't come off in my hands, which it didn't. They gladly gnawed on it, now about 2 or 3 hours later only 1 is acting wierd. Does this have anything to do with it? Do I need to switch beddings? I'm using aspen right now... PLEASE HELP! I know this is LONNNNG but please read it all if you can :]Oh trust me, they're the same gender. moreVoting Question: Can you critique my Cover Letter?
I'm applying for a summer internship at my local aquarium, and i was wondering if my cover letter looked okay. You can be as mean as you want, I just want the best cover letter I can. I really, really want this internship! Here it is: My name is ****** ***** and I am a junior biology major at the University of *****************. As a child, I remember visiting the *** ***** Aquarium and thinking about how wonderful it would be to work in that type of environment one day. Experiences such as my visits to the aquarium sparked my interest in biology, and I have been an avid learner of all life sciences for most of my life. My studies in college have given me valuable knowledge on topics in organism and cell biology, and my laboratory work in both biology and chemistry have given me useful skills that will help me in my future career. I hope to one day work in a research laboratory developing animal medicine and improving the quality of animal healthcare. I believe my acquired skills coupled with my desire of continuous learning make me an ideal candidate for a summer internship position at the *** ******* Aquarium. My first preference lies with the Water Quality Analyst Internship. I believe my hands-on laboratory experience has been very valuable and has prepared me for an internship of this nature. The Aquarium Medical Center Internship is my second preference. I feel confident that my previous employment experience with animals makes me a good candidate for this position as well. My third choice is the Sustainable Fisheries Initiative Internship. It is one of my personal philosophies that environmental conservation is very important, and I believe the *** ****** Aquarium is the ideal organization to make the first steps in fishery sustainability. If I was a chosen candidate, an internship at the *** ******** Aquarium would be a valuable learning experience. It would be a first-hand experience working with exotic animals under human care; I would receive great satisfaction in knowing that I made a small difference in a large effort to enrich the learning of the aquarium visitors and improve the lives of the animals that live there. If chosen for one of these positions, I am available any day of the week and at any time during the summer months. I am reachable by phone at ********** or by e-mail at *************. If there are any questions, please feel free to contact me moreResolved Question: How can I convince my dad to get me a Guinea Pig sooner?
I made another question like this, although it didn't work too well, since I forgot to add in details. xP By the way, this question will be long! Anyways- A month ago, I started studying Guinea pigs SO HARD, so that I could convince my dad to get me a Guinea Pig before May 19! (My birthday) I'm not even sure that he'll get me two (since guineas are social) guinea pigs by June. So a week ago, I made a 7 page report on Guinea Pigs. Everything that a Guinea Owner needs to know is in there. (Except, "How to bring a dead Guinea back to life." sadly. That'd be cool!) The results? "Wow. This was good, for a first draft!" I was like, 'What the.. You think this was a writing assignment?! NO WAY! THIS WAS... ARGH!' "Look, honey! When she wants something, LOOK! *points vigorously to the report*" *mom nods and gets back to watching her soaps* "This was... Interesting! Now I know how easy it is to kill Guinea Pigs!" I hate his sarcasm, in a good AND bad way. x_X Me: So when can I get two? Him: What? You still have to keep your room clean for 4 months! Remember? (this was a deal I had when I was desperate two months ago x_X. To keep my room clean for six months to show that I'll have a habit of keeping the Guineas safe and healthy) I'm homeschooled, so there CAN'T be a "Oh, I have to go to school for six hours so you guys have to take care of them, sorry." excuse, and besides, they killed SEVEN fish in less than a year! No way am I going to let them take care of them! And my sister's autistic(I love her VERY much,) but sometimes it seems that she can get out of hand with pets. :) For example, she put lots of quarters in the aquarium full of half-dead fish when we weren't looking. I'm a straight- A student, I keep my room and wherever I walk clean (my request, to show I CAN clean up!) So my dad just wants me to do this for 4 more months so I can show him, A) I'll either become SICK of cleaning my room for 4 months (though I have to anyways, so it's no big deal.) and I won't want Guineas anymore or B) I'm going to be MUCH more responsible. (I know I already am. I just know it!) I volunteer to do chores around the house, but they won't let me. x_X since I'm too young (11) I requested to learn how to use the vacuum, and a big flat "NO" came out. x_x So chores? Nuh uh. I don't play on the computer (except Yahoo A! for Guinea Pig tips!) So I can research around 5 hours a day on Guinea Pigs (That's how dedicated I am, sometimes I even went 6 hours!) I'm even writing a NEW report, on Guinea Pig Cages and Bedding, since I didn't really include that in my last report. So basically, after ALL THAT MESS UP ABOVE... How do I convince my dad to get me two Guinea Pigs 4 months without (Because they won't let me, mind.) A) Doing chores B) Begging (I won't let myself!) C) Bringing one home without asking or permission D) Volunteering at an animal shelter(they won't let me volunteer for my age) or E) Giving a presentation about them. Because I gave a HUGE one last week, and all he said was, "Wow. So Guinea Pigs can take up THAT MUCH SPACE for cages? And they eat their poop." I don't think that convinced him much LOL And I'm impatient, sadly. I keep on telling myself, "17 weeks, it's only 17 weeks away. Weeks go by so quickly- I WANT GUINEAS!" 4 months IS a long time away. For an 11 year old. :) Besides, I want to own two before it gets too hot! And any way to act more mature? I know I need to "grow up" but it's hard to, see, when you aren't really allowed to. :) I asked my sister if she wanted one, and a big "Guinea pig!!! YESSS!" came out! :D Though both of us can't really convince our parents, that made me feel a heck lot better. WOAH! THAT IS LONG!!! I better stop now. :) Thanks so much for reading this! (Notice how I don't say "all". I don't expect you to read ALL of it. xD)Seriously, sorry for making that so long xD!!! moreResolved Question: Can you help me understand this guy? Could he be gay?
I know it's long but please, can you help me? Thank you. Yes, I'm gay. I'm not really sure if he might be gay or not. He says no, but he does things that make me think otherwise: --I know talking on the phone doesn't really mean anything but me and this guy were on for literally three hours, just talking. We make a fairly decent amount of physical contact: --The other day he went to demonstrate something and grabbed my hand, but it seemed like he held his hand in mine a little too long before he finally let go. --I was resting my head on my arm and he touched my arm and started to play with the hair on my arm. (Although he said he wanted to wax it off, he actually touched my arm, pulling the hair lightly). --Again, he seems to touch my hand a lot (like when doing homework, he grabs my hand to move it away from the paper so he can see, rather than just telling me if I could move, he does it himself. A lot.) In school we hang out for hours. After class we can be together for another 7-8 hours together. We go to the dining hall, the student center, we've shared food, etc. Also, I mentioned that I reduced my meal plan for next semester and he said "Oh great, now you have just enough swipes for YOU" and he walked away (somewhat angry but sad about it as if he was suggesting that now we can't hang out as often or something.) Other little things: --We were joking around about purple (the color) and after admitting that "purple" was a gay color, he was like "I like purple". --I mentioned Frued's theory on everyone being bisexual and I said I agreed and he said "I think I agree with it as well." --A while back we went to an aquarium they have on campus (he didn't want to go at first but we went) and I was joking around with the fish and when we left he said "At least it was worth it because you made me happy." moreResolved Question: I'm confused about this guy, can you help?

fisheries service on boris worm's headlining prediction as "far too pessimistic"? article-Fishermen on the high seas have plenty of worries, not the least of which are boat-tossing storms, territorial squabbles and even pirates. Now Boris Worm, a marine biologist at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada, has added another. After studying, among other things, global catch data over more than 50 years, he and a team of 13 researchers in four countries have come to a stunning conclusion. By the middle of this century, fishermen will have almost nothing left to catch. "None of us regular working folk are going to be able to afford seafood," says Stephen Palumbi, a Stanford University marine biologist and co-author of the study published in Science. "It's going to be too rare and too expensive." Don't tell that to your local sushi chef. Over the past three decades, the fish export trade has grown fourfold, to 30 million tons, and its value has increased ninefold, to $71 billion. The dietary attractiveness of seafood has stoked demand. About 90% of the ocean's big predators--like cod and tuna--have been fished out of existence. Increasingly, fish and shrimp farms are filling the shortfall. Though touted as a solution to overfishing, many of them have--along with rampant coastal development, climate change and pollution--devastated the reefs, mangroves and seagrass beds where many commercially valuable fish hatch. Steven Murawski, chief scientist at the U.S. National Marine Fisheries Service, finds Worm's headlining prediction far too pessimistic. Industry experts are even more skeptical. "There's now a global effort to reduce or eliminate fishing practices that aren't sustainable," says industry analyst Howard Johnson. "With that increased awareness, these projections just aren't realistic." Perhaps. Still, the destructive fishing practices that have decimated tuna and cod have not declined worldwide, as Johnson suggests. Up to half the marine life caught by fishers is discarded, often dead, as bycatch, and vibrant coral forests are still being stripped bare by dragnets. Worm argues that fisheries based on ecosystems stripped of their biological diversity are especially prone to collapse. At least 29% of fished species have already collapsed, according to the study, and the trend is accelerating. So what's a fish eater to do? "Vote with your wallet," says Michael Sutton, who runs the Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch program in California. Since 1999, the aquarium has handed out pocket guides listing sustainably harvested seafood. The Marine Stewardship Council has partnered with corporations to similarly certify wild and farm-raised seafood. Some 370 products in more than two dozen countries bear the British group's "Fish Forever" label of approval. Wal-Mart and Red Lobster, among others, have made commitments to sell sustainably harvested seafood. But that's just a spit in the ocean unless consumers in Japan, India, China and Europe join the chorus for change. "If everyone in the U.S. started eating sustainable seafood," says Worldwatch Institute senior researcher Brian Halweil, "it would be wonderful, but it wouldn't address the global issues. We're at the very beginning of this." moreResolved Question: How do I recover from a rash of mistakes in pursuing a relationship?
So this is kinda a long story. Go to the bottom for a synopsis/shorter version if you don't have the time. I met this girl a couple months ago, from one of my good friends who had just met her as well. We really hit it off because we had so much in common and she lives just down the hall in my apartment. And over the span of a month, we were constantly with each other along with msging/text/calls/etc. At that point, I asked her out on a real date and she said yeah. I ended up taking her to the aquarium which was awesome, and that night held her hand watching a movie. A couple dates later, and one night we got kinda intimate, nothing crazy but still...I asked her if she was looking for a relationship and she said, umm not right at this moment, but maybe sometime soon. Anyways, since that night, for the next couple weeks, things felt a little different, definitely changed from the first month, maybe because things went from harmless to questionable. Still I cared about this girl, and we had already expressed mutual feelings so I went ahead and basically cheesed out a "do you want to be together/be my girlfriend" line. I haven't had a relationship in college yet, so I'm kinda new at this but she said yes. A couple days later, at dinner, she basically reneged on it, saying she just wasn't ready and didn't want to commit 98% to something that should be 100%. And I took it, said it was ok, and I could wait, so we were "dating". Well I could tell something was still off, because she stopped contacting me much over the thanksgiving break, and she seemed to always be busy when I wanted to hang out. So I had another talk with her, and she kinda changed her views again, saying shes not ready, family issues and she doesnt want to be exclusive in that she would only hang out with one person. She had an awful first relationship that ended a few months ago, and for now, she just needs a friend because she's not sure when she's ready to get into that again. She also wants to stop the intimate stuff, like holding hands and kissing, because that should be reserved for a relationship (This is a conservative girl). Things moved too fast, and maybe we should take a step backward, get to know each other better. And she added that we could definitely go somewhere, assured me there was no one else (she has a lot of guy friends), and she didn't want to confirm anything now because it might lead me on and be unfair that I'd have to do most of the work now. I don't think this is one of those, "I just want to be friends" kind of thing because she initiated several things that happened. I really do think its a timing problem, maybe I'm wrong. We're still going on dates and stuff. I've screwed up a lot in this whole thing lol, from being too much of that nice guy who offers to do a lotta stuff to moving too fast and getting too emotionally attached for someone who's not that type but I do feel like things could still work out. She said like 5 times she wasn't "playing the field", so I honestly don't think it's someone else, even if she hangs out with a lotta dudes. I hate part of it though, cause you care about someone and you don't know how they feel back (shes a gamer chick too lol, works at Gamestop) and you try to read what's going on but that only results in more uncertainty, doubt, and denial...and I'm mostly a confident guy, just at times during this whole thing, I've felt kinda insecure, she doesn't like revealing too much - definitely guarded. She's told me that her last relationship, she had to do all the work, basically ditch her friends to meet the demands of the guy. And she doesn't want that right now, even if I tell her I'm not like that. She just wants some time to herself and to do what she wants and if she made that commitment, it might turn out unfair given that I'd prob have to do most of the work at least early on. Well in the past week or so, I've made a big effort to try and help with rides/anything she needs/asking to hang out, but she's mostly come up with excuses, legit or not. And I know I've been pushing (me doing all the initiating), it's just hard not to think about, and I'm overwhelmed with regrets about stupid things I've done and said in this whole thing. Sorry that's like a damn novel lol. Basically, I've been way too overbearing the last couple of weeks with this girl that I've been going on dates with. And the reason why is because we basically became "official" or whatever for a couple days before she said she wasn't quite ready to be exclusive (only hanging with one person). I've made an effort to work on it, and just be there for her but I know I've been calling/asking too much. Should I just give up? At this point, I've messed up a lot and maybe some things are irreversible. Or is there still a chance this could work out, and if so, what steps should I take? Idk, I've either pushed too much and she feels pressured or if we got to a certain place on the brink of a relationship, then certai*certainly we can get there again moreResolved Question: Need informative Literature on starting a Saltwater Aquarium?
I have made a purchase of a 75 gallon tank with a lot of accessories for filtration and so forth to aid in getting started in the past time. I debated freshwater, however, after seeing a nice saltwater setup, I want to try it. I need an informative book I can read and learn from. I have seen numerous books, but if possible, would like a first hand experienced person's recommendation. As well as any knowledge anyone else would like to pass along. Thanks. moreResolved Question: What do you think of this boy?
I'm not sure what to think. He gives me the impression he's gay but then he says he's not. He wasn't feeling too good the other day because he did bad on an exam so me and him where just walking on campus and we decided to go to the aquarium they have and we were just fooling around. Then he said "at least it was worth it because you made me happy". I know that doesn't mean anything but we literally hang out for hours upon hours each day and he even offered to pay for my lunch. We even share our food sometimes. The other day on the bus, his hand was on my leg (he had his book open and the edge of the book was over my leg and his hand was resting on my leg for a while before he moved it). He just gives me this feeling. He's always looking at me and smiling and we spend all the time we have free together. Also another occasion, he "accidently" touched my hand. But it didn't seem like an accident because where my hand was, was almost impossible for him to have touched it by accident. Plus I was watching him get closer and closer, and when he touched my hand, he pulled back fast. What do you think? moreResolved Question: A few of rat questions?
1. I got a 30 gallon tank for the 2 rats its the only one my landlord would allow we have a screen cover and everytime we take them out (about 2 hrs or more a day) we put a fan over the cage to "air it out" its got levels and they seem to love it we use aspen bedding because carefresh is too dusty in my opinion. And their cage gets fully cleaned once a week but theyre also litter trained. Do you think theyre ok in there? we wanted to find one of those cage toppers but they dont make it in a 30 gallon size. http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d145/idpaintmyselfout/cage1.jpg 2. My bigger rat (Debo) is always stealing the food from my other rat (Marvin) i notice that a lot of times marvin is hungry so when i take him out i feed him... do you think ill have to do this forever? and i do put in enough food.... debo is just... greedy. if marvin happens to get food he will go and hump marvin .... take the food and run. so since we brought them home about a month ago i have to hand feed marvin. 3. Marvin tends to nibble a lot. And it concerns me because im scared one day he will bite hard. ill clean my hands.... so there are no traces of food but he still likes to nibble... his teeth are fine not long... is there anyway to break his habit? 4. Is there anyway to make a hammock in an aquarium? i have a little hut for them...but they love climbing and i figured they would LOVE a hammock since they are always standing on top of their water bottle anyway. most of the stuff in their cage i made and put together but couldnt quite figure out a hammock. any ideas? 4. Last what do you think of my boys? =] http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d145/idpaintmyselfout/demoandmarvin.jpg http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d145/idpaintmyselfout/debo.jpg thanks guys =] the only thing is the landlord wont allow for anything other than a aquarium... were talking about building another layer on top of it though making one ourselves since they dont make cage toppers for 30 gallons. moreResolved Question: Which two celebrity chefs am I talking of here?

Myself and Ethel went over to the tank, and sure enough the Star-Spawn of Cthulhu was sitting contently sieving Krill through it's Mandibles, and a low happy purring bubbly sound could be heard as he snatched a Minnow from me and chomped it up eyes blinking in bliss. "Farewell Star-Spawn!" I waved, then me and Ethel continued fishing till Twilight, and sauntered off to the Hotel for a hot shower. . . together! Oooooer! Can anyone recognize who the Star-Spawn is alluded to? moreResolved Question: Is the River Piddle the best place to fish in Dorset?
Woe betide the wrath of Cthulhu! The blind Seer boomed as I left the Anglers shop in a small Village in Dorset. "Okay Sir, I will." I states perplexed, my fishing friend was equally beguiled by this ominous chap. We had only popped in for some Meal Worms as we fancied a spot of fly fishing on the River Piddle, and perhaps a look at the "Carriers" streams also, rather good for fly fishing it has to be said. Looking back at the Seer, his gnarly hand held out with an admonishing and foreboding finger, his sightless pale eyes wide in terror as he jabbered some incantation to ward off some invisible terror. Daft old Duffer I thought, and with that. . myself and Ethel (a fly fishing Champion for the over Seventies no less) went to set up in a prominent position by the river. In preparation for the River's Bounty and as a thanks for our Lord we sung as a duet "This is the world that God made". Then we commenced fishing. "By Jove!" I shouted at Ethel. "I've got one! A real wriggly bugger too, get the net Dear!" She swiftly pulled up her baggy apple-catchers and hoisted them up and over her pot ensuring her Frock wouldn't get wet and waded into the stream ready to haul the thrashing creature onto the bank. . . . when, an almighty and hideous wail bubbled out of the threshing waters! She leapt back with a shriek as an Unholy creature emerged from the depths of the stream! Tendrils and tentacles thrashing, howling with an alien screech, "Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhh!" Plucky Old Ethel brandished a stick and clubbed the Monstrosity between it's tiny squiggly little eyes. "Waaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!" It roared and just then, the very same Blind Seer turned up with a posse of Villagers brandishing pitchforks and torches, "Behold!" Shouted the Seer "Star-Spawn of Cthulhu! Brethren, send this foulness back to London, it shall not plague our Godly waters no more with Mediterranean Cooking!" And with that the Dorset Chaps waded in and hauled the outnumbered Monster and placed him a tank full of Krill. "What of the Creature?" I asked the Seer, as I felt a little sorry for the scaly Cherub to be honest. Hmmmmm? moreResolved Question: Is some aquarium glass made sort of greenish?
Mmk. Let's try this again. Hi. (: I was just wondering if aquariums are usually greenish, like the glass itself. Or, if they aren't supposed to be, is there a reason that mine is? Thanks for reading. People. I'm not that stupid. It isn't algae. The tank is empty, and thoroughly washed with vinegar and scrubbed reallyreally well. But it's still greenish. Never had fish in it while I've had it, but it's second hand so I don't know if it was supposed to be like that... moreResolved Question: 30 gallon Hex Aquarium question?
Hi, I have a 20-30 gallon hex aquarium that I used to use then went back to my 20 standard tank cuz it looks much better. ANYWAY I was wondering if anyone would possibly know if the HEX aquarium is made of acrylic or plexiglass? I was wondering because I had the idea of cutting up the hex and using the sheets to make a wet/dry filter out of it as its a large tank and would provide PLENTY of material for the wet dry, maybe even enough to make 2. Also if anyone has any tips on cutting it that would be helpful. I have a dremel or I could probly use my brother in laws table saw? I also remember seeing you can use a hand saw? or hack saw? I don't know any incite would be MUCH appreciated! thanks! No it's not glass. It is most likely acrylic. It has smooth rounded bent corners not joined by silicone. moreResolved Question: What's Wrong with my Green Spotted Pufferfish?
A couple days ago I bought a GSP from Wal-Mart. He had a grey belly since they put him in the bag at the store, and it never went away at home. I initially thought he was just dirty. He died within 48 hours, even though he ate fine and swam around. After reading, I saw that grey bellies meant they were sick or stressed, so I took the dead one back and exchanged it for a vibrant, active one. He was happy, and white all the way home. I made ready a three gallon tank with better plants and hiding spots. I put dechlorinator and a little bit of aquarium salt in the water, and when I put the fish in he swam around actively for a bit... and then turned grey & settled into his little skull cave. He barely leaves it now after nearly a whole day. The only way I can get him to eat is to feed him by hand. If I just leave the food (dried shrimp) floating, he won't take it. I have to actually put my fingers in the water. I live an hour away from any pet store to help me.A couple days ago I bought a GSP from Wal-Mart. (And I did a lot of research before buying one. I'm not ignorant, there are just some things some sites don't mention.) moreResolved Question: Childish behavior or something darker?
My neighbour's five year old little boy came over one day with his mom to welcome us to the street. I was busy showing his mom our home and let him admire our aquarium for a few minutes. I did not return to the aquarium again until after they had gone. When I did, the two guppies I had were gone! The lid of the tank was askew and there was water on the floor. I looked for the fish but quickly concluded that the boy had done something with them. I immediately contacted the neighbour and turns out that the boy had removed the fish, squished them in his hands, put the remains in his pocket and then buried them in our front garden after they left. His mom didn't notice a thing. When he was questioned he said that he wanted the fish for himself. I was absolutely floored. His mom made him apoligize and they replaced the fish too. Still, I can't help but wonder about this child. What do you think? moreResolved Question: My roommate is trying to get me to move out. What should I do?
I moved in with my current roommate and we signed a lease together. Things went downhill for me and my roommate. Now my roommate has made an agreement to see that I move and wrote to me not one but two letters about it. In the second letter she told me that she renewed the lease (w/o me) and I have to move out by the time the lease is up. Is that even legal? She even try to talk to the police to get a protection order against me. I'm not a violent person by nature and I haven't done a whole lot against her. She moved my stuff around, including my aquarium, without my permission. I know she's a nice person, but this whole thing is going out of hand. I didn't think it would get to the point where the landlord is going to be involved.I forgot to add more. The other part is I want to stay too. I'm tired of moving and I like the place and the neighborhood. more
