Resolved Question: UV sterilizer questions?
Hi! I have a 56 gallon aquarium, heavily planted with low light plants and driftwood. It's stocked with a few platy and swords, rummy nose(7) and cardinal tetra(7), khuli loaches(5), otto cats (3) and a few guppies. I'm not sure of the exact number of the live bearers as some adults have died and a few babies have survived, but it's not a big number. Most of the young I remove and give to my LFS, but a few manage to hide until they're older.
I keep it about 78-80 degrees and it's filtered with an Aqua Clear 70-110, and has two air stones on opposite ends. I have one Jebo light and one GLO T5 HO.
I have no disease issues and excellent water quality, unfortunately the driftwood has darkened my water with tannins considerably.
I saw a UV sterilizer at my LFS today, and was wondering if it's worth it? Would it help at all with the tannins? I don't think it would, but I'd love if it did!
Anyone had experience with these things? Yay or nay on the experience?
Thanks! Thanks guys! Actually, my water is pretty neutral, but then again my tap water is really hard.
As for the driftwood, unfortuantlly they are very large pieces, so I was only able to soak them in really hot water in a large garbage can as I had nothing even remotlly large enough to boil them in. I changed the water frequentlly, but it simply wasn't the same as boiling.
moreResolved Question: What do I do for my fish suffering from electrocution? Experts only?
HELP! I have never dealt with this before. Experts only!
I had a Jebo powerhead in my aquarium and it exploded, literally. I didn't even know you could have flames underwater, but apparently you can. The on unlucky tang next to the powerhead is burned and probably won't make it, and all the other fish are in the rock dying. I of course am doing an emergency water change but was wondering if anyone new of any treatment or anything else I can try to save the electrocuted fish. Saltwater tank. I faintly remember methylene blue as a treatment....
Note, Stay Away from JEBO brand products. I've heard of their heaters going and now can add pumps to that list

moreResolved Question: Red bloody, ammonia burn on my goldfish, but ammonia level is normal.?
I have a 48L jebo aquarium and I have one small Lionhead inside and (had) a Chinese algae eater.
I actually had two algae eaters, the first one died which I suspect from starvation because there was no more algae in the tank, however after I removed it from the tank, black hair algae began to grow on the gravel and plants.
So I bought another algae eater to clean it up, but after a few days it died.
I found little red rashes on the algae eater:
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j122/Zuzumoo/fish1.jpg
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j122/Zuzumoo/fish2.jpg
I believe this is ammonia burn?
There's also a similar red blood splotch on my lionhead's tummy as well, which I only just discovered last night, so I tested the water immediately, but the ph and ammonia levels are fine.
The lionhead's also been swimming and wriggling on its side, I'm not sure if this is normal behavior or if its skin is irritated. Either ways, the lionhead's still pretty active and eats normally, though I have recently discovered that he's gotten a bit fat and bloated.
I'm really baffled, is it the black algae that's harming my fish?
I use stress coat+ and water conditioning salt to condition my water, and I change the water about once every two weeks and test the water regularly.
Are there any product recommendation on how to treat this? Or any other suggestions, I really don't want my goldfish to die, I've had him for awhile now.
Thanks~The ammonia level is 0 (yellow colour) and ph level is about 7~7.5
Gosh, I had no idea chinese algae eaters was tropical, the pet shop lady said it was fine when I asked I needed one for my goldfish tank :( My first algae eater lived for quite awhile too so I had no idea~
I change the water about once every week, if not once every 2 weeks. Since it's only one little goldfish, I didn't think it would produce much waste for a big tank.
I'm also looking into getting a bigger tank once the goldfish gets bigger.
Thank you for your help, I will be sure to get back to you once I get a nitrate reading.
