Resolved Question: Everything I need for my pet rat?

I know most of it - hammock, wheel, bedding, a big cage, toys. I'm pretty much prepared for anything I need with my rat. I know I need to buy it something to gnaw on[toys? or anything else? suggestions please] and to clean it's cage at least once a week. It needs a buddy [right now I can only afford one but when I can I will get it a friend]. I know a lot and it'd be nice to get some tips on what it needs. I have a fish tank for now [seeing as I can only afford the essentials but not the cage] and it's pretty big in length but not width, and I have a fan to put near it so it won't suffocate. Any tips on what I should get [besides the large cage] would be helpful. How much would it roughly cost with the water bottle, bedding, food, the rat itself, hammock, wheel, and anything else I'm forgetting?I'd like to add just so you know that I can afford everything but the cage, but my parents will be paid this friday for disability monthly checks so we can buy a big enough cage. So this friday we'll afford it. more

Resolved Question: what is this fish, and some advice please.?

i've been given some tropical fish, that the owner couldn't keep in there tank, they went very helpful with the names/species of the fish. there's 2 rainbow guppies 2 guppies that are blue in colour 1 red tailed shark/fish and 1 loach, which is spotted black and white, it seems to like to stick to the walls of the tank. i currently have them at 26C and there all together in a large tank. i have some tropical food flakes and algae wafers (which seem to be pointless) there huge pellets, am i feeding them the right stuff, could be be rid of the algae wafers?? how much should i feed them, and what is the spotted and the blue fish name/species? can i keep them together?? thanks. more

Resolved Question: if you win the lottery what will you spend it on?

with out mentioning the amount, lets just say its a large sum of money and you neednt worry about it, what would you spend the cash on?! (feel free to be selfish here people, of course you would want to do several good deeds with the money aswell, but what do YOU want? think about it, feel good about it, and you never know it could come to you =] ) me: house, preferably i'd like to live upstairs and have my own pet shop downstairs. 2 alaskan klee kais a HUGE fish tank =D a very fancy RV... or maybe an original V W camper =] a jewelry set which would be unique, i've always wanted to have a design i drew made into jewelry, silver encrusted with garnet, my birth stone =] i'd buy a spa treatment for a whole day, once a week for a month or two, and i'd hire a personal trainer to help me get fit. id pay for hypnotherapy to overcome my strange food phobias and to help me eat better. i'd give enough to my brother for him to buy his own place, enough to my parents to pay off the mortgage and extra for a well deserved holiday. id buy some land somewhere and keep it as a protected wildlife site. i'd go to the cairn gorms once a year and learn to sled with a husky team. id go to many places in the world, id especially like to go to these though (from most want to go- least want to go): new zealand, canada, reykjavik, australia, france, greece, china, new york, florida, italy and norway. (the last 4 are least because i have already been, but would like to go again =]) there were other things i wanted to do, but cant remember, lol. Q: what would be the most random thing you would buy, just because you have the money, for no other reason? more

Resolved Question: Advice from anyone with experience with blood red parrot fish, please?

I have my eye on a 50 gallon bow tank and have always wanted blood red parrot fish. I have a large tropical and goldfish tanks up and running so the cycling and filtration I know about and will be taken care of before I bring them home, but what I don't know about is what kind of environment these particular parrot fish prefer. I know they can get quite large, so is 50 gallons enough to house 2 ? Any information you could share with me about what kind of substrate (fine or medium gravel or sand?), do they prefer a well planted tank? rocks or caves to hide in, temperament, feeding (do they like frozen brine shrimp or blood worms etc). Basically anything I can do to make sure they are happy and thrive when I get them home. Thank you in advance to anyone who cares to share what they know about them. more

Resolved Question: Question regarding Rosy Barbs?

Hello :) I have a fish tank with a goldfish in which i set up just over a month ago and he seems to be getting on fine. I went to my local fish shop last week and with the guidance of the lady in there, bought two Rosy Barbs to keep him company. They seemed to be getting on fine until a few days later when i noticed by Goldfish's tale looking torn at the ends. I kept an eye on the fish and saw that the larger of the two Rosy Barbs constantly chases him around. After another day of watching this and my goldfish's tale getting even more torn, i decided to take out the Rosy Barb and put him in a separate tank on his own. Does anyone know if my goldfish's tail will repair itself? Thanks for any help :) more

Resolved Question: which hamster cage for 2 ROBOROVSKI HAMSTERS?

hey, recently i got a pair of robos, to go with my 2 syrians, and i thought that i would get them a "proper" cage for my birthday. well, they are in a large plastic box - they are very happy btw. well ventilated aswell. so i thought...a fishtank...or a proper hamster cage. some pics. Hagen LivingWorld Small Pet Home Exercise Dome (THE HAMSTER CAGE) Pros - Very big, similar size to rat cage (my syrians are in one each), looks very nice, not tacky, and comes with accessories, and they can climb the bars. but idunno if they're climbers. maybe more "diggers"... cons - not sure about wooden floors - may have to give layer or two of non toxic clear paint, so they dont pee straight onto the wood and it would be easier to clean. they are not chewers. they are escape artists lol :L so am worried about bars. it says "suitable for adult dwarf hamsters"...well for a start robos are the smallest of hamsters. secondly they are not the first pair of robos im gonna get in my life. and its not as sturdy and good as a rat cage, yet same price!, price is ridiculous. £50. but if its better for the hamsters... and of course, a pic of it... http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/rodents/cages/hamster_mouse_cages/hamster_cages/40877#more Fish Tank (the one i'd buy if i got one) pros - very easy to see and take photos of them - considering they're robos and i will not be handling them nearly as much as my syrians, easy to clean, impossible to escape out of. i can pile up woodshavings so they can dig and burrow. they love doing that. saves me getting a "digging tower" (by trixie if u dunno what it is) cons - cannot climb bars - but i dunno if they actually like it, since they've been in a glass tank in pets at home, then bought home and put in a plastic box. hmm... ..... and not as big as the hamster cage. expensive for a fish tank. £33!!! not including the mesh lid which i'll have to buy to keep them in it.... and is heavy. no handles to carry. and more difficult to clean out as is heavy. with the hamster cage the whole like cage lifts up so you just empty the base. oh, some pics - http://www.petsathome.com/shop/aquarium-by-clearseal-(available-in-store-only)-36345 if you go on the size select thing its the second one in the list, i think it says 30x15x12. big enough. and i dont wanna go any bigger because its longer - and i've no room at all for any longer!! So... i'm stuck. i've pros and cons for both!! and yes, i have considered a gerbil cage but bars of gerbil cage way too big for robos and they'd escape. plus gerbil cage even heavier, and i've run out of room lol - 3 cages!!! please dont say "fish tank" becuz its cheaper, or "hamster cage" cus it says the word "hamster" on it therefore its suitable, and a fishtank is not suitable because its not ddesigned for hamsters, its designed for fish, cus thats not true. and give reasons for your answer :) thanks oh - an idea of what the finished fish tank would look like... and its the fish tank i would get if i got a fish tank lol... this. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290464269242&_trksid=p2759.l1259 cool, huh? and yeah, i'm not gonna get that wooden top. they sell mesh ones too :)ok - i haven't made myself clear enough - i have no rats. lol. i have 2 syrian hamsters, they are in a rat cage EACH lol, they've hardly even met XD the 2 robos arre going in the cage :) more

Voting Question: looking for opinions on stocking please?

have a 64 litre tank(interpet fish box 60) with 2 neon dwarf gourami and a siamese fighter. i want to get 3 male guppies, 6 neon tetras and 4 silvertip tetras. i also have a few shrimp lurking around in there too. large internal filter and do weekly water change of about 30%. tank calculator said i had 76.8cm to stock and when everything is added up that makes 68cm so still a wee bit left over.the cm to a litre rule would make it 68 litres. too overstocked or ok?if i dropped the guppies and added 6 silvertip tetras do you think i could have another dwarf gourami? more

Resolved Question: Sharp Ribbed Newts, growth and accommodation.?

I currently have two sharp ribbed newts in a tank that is 40cm wide, 45 cm high, and 20cm deep.(21 litres approx.) It has large gravel as a substrate, a filter, and the water fills pretty much the whole tank. (35cm deep.) When I bought them they were only about 5cm long, now, 10 months later, they are about 11cm long. There are some rocks on one side of the tank for them to scramble around and hide under. I feed them every 3-4 days, I did feed them on cubes of dried tubifex for a while, but I recently switched them back to live bloodworm. I have read that they can grow to 30cm, and while this would be inappropriate for this size of tank, I was wondering if they would grow any bigger, or if like fish, they stop with the size of the tank. Does this mean a bigger tank would allow them to grow larger. I read that this size of tank, 21 litre, is a good size for four of these newts, so I am worried that I am doing something wrong as there are only two of them, and they seem too have stopped growing. Does anyone have any suggestions to promote healthy growth?I do realise that newts are amphibious, and not reptiles, but it was this or fish, as there is no section for amphibians, and I figured that they are just a bit more similar to some reptiles, if only in appearance. more

I know im letting myself in for a right ear bashing here, thing is 3 years ago i bought a large fish tank and put 25 fish into it, guy in shop made up the list of fish so they would get along, ,, you can see already i know very little,,, well i did a bit of research got all the right things to look after them, cleaned tank every week or 2 , didnt matter what i did a lot of them were dieing, anyway about a year and a half ago i gave up, i didnt clean them at all, fed them like once every 3 days , never cleaned filter, low and behold i also noticed the dam heater had been unplugged god only knows when that happened, , when i was looking after them i had aprox 25, today i have 15, .....thats 15 fish that have never been cleaned/ no heater/ to filter clean, i know im a bad boy but can someone explain to me why my fish seemed to be doing ok. if you feel you'd like to give me a hard time feel free, one last thing, i have 2 dogs and walk them twice a day and feed them twice a day and get them groomed twice a year just so you know im not some bum who doesnt care for anything, :0)i know it doesnt make a difference but it wass my wife that got fish tank not me,and as any man will tell you its always the man that ends up doing the dirty work after the novelty has worn off, just take the dogs, any way i gave the tank a good clean today, i did everything right with the change of water and am gona keep up with the clean, more

Resolved Question: Zebra danio appears aggressive to other fish in tank? Can this happen?

Resolved Question: Pearlscale goldfish-compatibility in tanks?

I have just seen a lovely bubble head perlscale at my local aquarium shop- I have plenty of room for the little fellow amongst my tank of 4 orandas- 1 baby and three large, and one baby black moor(i say baby theyre 1 inch) i enquired about percy (already named him in my head) to be told by a very haughty shopp assistant that i should under no circumstances mix a pearlscale with orandas as they are too agressive. she sugested i purchase only similar sized goldfish and leave it at that. i was a little surprized at her reaction, yes agressive fish are known, but having kept various sizes of orandas and moors for years(i like to get them big and fat for my dads heated pond) and mixing babys and adults, ive really had no problems simply keeping fancys with fancys and comets with comets. I spend a lot of time watching my fish and i have never noticed them to be anything but laid back and friendly towards one another-even when the babys are literally swimming within the larger orandas fins. is a pearlscale that much more delicate? google seems devided id like the opinion of someone who has attempted this goldfish combination.Helpful and detailed answers-thank you very much-im fairly sure one of my orandas is a boy so i wouldnt want to risk him chasing the pearlscale when the temperatures rises so to speak...perhaps an exuse for a new tank... more

Resolved Question: What type of coldwater fish is this, and how should I care for them?

Pictures here: http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd33/Murderdogs/DSC04217.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd33/Murderdogs/DSC04222.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd33/Murderdogs/DSC04227.jpg I first thought they were three-spined sticklebacks, though I'm not too sure as they're pretty tiny. I caught a few of them last night and placed them in an EMPTY cycled tank, so there's no risk of disease. Anyway, the largest is about 2cm (just under an inch), with the smallest about a quarter of that. What's the best way to care for them? I gave them a helping of flake food this morning, but they didn't seem overly enthusiastic about it - though they ate most of it in the end. How should I look after these fish? I have an adequately sized tank with a filter and light, and one plant and hiding place. I'm planning to get more plants soon. more

Resolved Question: can you think of any names for my new guppies?

these are my other fish: 3 males guppies: Borage, Ianto & Houdini 2 males & 4 females: Tam, Zandr, Wanda, Eliza, Penny & lexi and yesterday i bought what i thought were all female, but one is actually a male, the shop wont take returns so im getting another tank for him or may put him with borage ianto and houdini. so i need names for 2 female guppies and one male, one is a large female who i suspect is older, she has a red tail with blue speckles on the top of the tail and a line of blue on her back. the other female is smaller and younger, she has a red tail with no speckles, but her tail is longer (i thought she was also a male at first, but can see her gravid spot.) the male looks like a smaller version of Tam who is red with a wavy round tail his back is red, his head is white and his belly is blue, i was thinking of giving him a 'british name' because of the red white and blue =] (i already thought of jack, as in, 'union jack' but it doesnt suit, what do you think of winston?) thanks in advance for your help =] more

Resolved Question: is my pet shop allowed to sell fish under another name?!?

hi, there is a pet shop i use which is near to me, and i have been buying their things for many years, i trust that they are better informed than most other pet shops and the staff are required to create their own 1-3 page care sheets as 'homework' once a month (i know this because my friend works there- they have a rota, and those on 'mammal duty' need to prove they know the proper care of a specific animal, eg hamster, and hand it in to the boss. anyone who gets more than 5 things wrong is given time off to study the care of that animal and adjust their care sheet, they get 3 strikes and then are 'demoted' if they prove to not know much about the animals. anyway, those are the reasons why i prefer their shop to others, (that and the animals are always in pristine surroundings, plenty of space, and their food bowls are always clean- a sign of neglect in pet stores is if there is a green rim around the water bowl. they even put out leaflets and care sheets for each animal and let you know the test results of their water every week.) the problem is that i decided id like to have some fish they have there, they advertise them as 'albino pygmy corydoras'. yet i have just been told there is no pygmy corydora of the albino variety, they are just selling young albino corydoras. are they allowed to advertise these as pygmy? they also state very clearly 'these pygmy's are great for those who cant get a big enough tank for the larger species, they like lots of room and a well established tank and prefer to be in groups of 3 or more, but wont grow to the size other corydora's catfish do!!!' do they realise that they arent pygmy, but babies of the normal albino corydoras? more

Resolved Question: do you like fish? and what about these other animal groups?

i love my pet fish, my favourites are guppies, and i have 4 guppy tanks, i also love albino red tail sharks, but they're difficult to keep so i dont have any. if you dont like fish, why is that? most common answer is usually that the person finds them boring. what about your opinions on these other animal groups: 1. small mammals (eg gerbils hamsters ferrets and rats) 2. larger mammals (eg cats and dogs) 3. large mammals (eg horses, farm animals) 4. birds ( eg chickens cockatoos and parakeets) 5. reptiles (eg corn snaked and bearded dragons) 6. amphibians (eg tree frogs and axolotls) 7. fishes obviously =] (eg goldfish bettas and guppies) 8. aquatic invertebrates (eg mystery snails and shrimps) 9. invertebrates (eg stick insects, giant land snails and rose turantulas) what's your opinions on the groups/ favourite pet animals in that group?to probably: even dogs?lol rockstar, im arachnophobic and entomophobic 2, i can just about stand snails, but if they touch me i freak out lol, i pretty much love every one of those animal groups x-ept insects and im no fan of large animals, cute, but i dont trust em... (love rats 2, i had 2 not long ago, jeffy and jack, jeffy got cancer and jack died only weeks after, i think he missed his bro so much he died of a broken heart =[ RIP boys. before that i had Racco, out of all the dogs i've ever had my rat was smarter! more

Resolved Question: What should be included in a frog tank?

at the moment i have a plastic storage box its about 30cm across and 15cm deep. it has a large wooden fish tank thing in it which goes up from the base to just beneath the lid of the box. its like a branch thing. there's a little glass dish underneath it filled with good clean water and some soil around the base of the wood. i only have one frog at the moment the others are still tadpoles. he's about the size of my fingernail and still has a tail. i got them from my boyfriends pond and they'll go back there in a few weeks. any suggestions on feeding because the box only has a fully removable lid so flies could be difficult and i'm not sure my mum wants crickets in the house.i can't put him back my boyfriend and his family is on holiday so it will be at least three weeks before that is an option. more

Resolved Question: Could I create an aquarium by collecting fish, plants and substrate from a local river?

It seems I've really been bitten by the aquarium bug from my ten gallon tropical tank, and after recently noticing a 6.6 gallon (25 litre) tank which would fit well on my bookshelf, I decided to take the plunge. Anyhow, as I already have a tropical tank which I'm very happy with, I was planning to create a coldwater one. Having noticed the large number of three-spined stickleback (Gasterosteus aculeatus) in a small brook near my house, I was thinking of choosing them as my aquarium's inhabitants. Would you think that'd work? They're pretty small fish, so I would have thought they'd be suited to a tank of this size. None of the ones in the brook appear to be larger than about an inch. Also, judging by the crazy prices for substrate in my local pet shop, I was also considering just scraping an amount of sand/gravel off the riverbed to use in the aquarium. I'd take some plant samples too. Do you think this would work? Any suggestions would be helpful. I've always had a fascination with these sticklebacks, as I often used to play by the brook when I was little, so it'd be nice to finally have some in a tank. Also, I like the idea of using entirely indiginous fish, plants and substrate, all collected from the same brook, as it would be more... authentic. By the way, my tank measures 24" x 8" x 8", so they should have more than average space in which to swim for a tank of that volume. What do you think? more

Resolved Question: Goldfish swimming ..?

Resolved Question: Can you put a shubunkin in a 20ltr tank?

My daughter bought her first aquarium. It was limited but pocket money funds so is only 20Lt's. I has a good surface area and excellent filtration system for size. My suggestion was for her to get about 3-5 little fish which don't grow too big as adults. She really wants a Shubunkin though which would be fine now but I know they can grow pretty big! I have heard that fish limit their growth to environment, is that true? Any other suggestions for a nice setup? I have some general aquarium experience. I have a large tank with a five year old and a 1 year old fantail that I want to grow big and have just added 2 loaches and some shrimp. I want her to have the best setup possible given size restrictions but am a wee bit lost with this one. Thanks for any help. more

We have 1 large pleco , 2 koi and 1 other shibukin (spell?) they have been tank mates for two years and have gradually been updated from a begining 30 gallon tank to a 75 gallon tank. All was well until the day after we had a tornado. Our power was out and i noticed our fish were "flying around the tank" my pleco attempting to latch on to the gold fish. we were unsure why he was doing this. we had fed them that morning and again 8 hours later. however after the power came back on our pleco seemed irritated. he would lunge up from the bottom and catch our goldfish off guard spinning him like a top. this behavior kept up on and off for two weeks.we tried increased feeding ( as suggested by a pet shop). we also tried feeding cubed frozen shrimp( as suggested by a pet shop). we failed however as just this morning my pleco killed my beloved fish. what could have caused this ? more

Resolved Question: Help with my tank!!!?

I planning on getting three axolotls (yahoo doesn't have an amphibian section, though i would ask the fish section) for my tank in a week or so but i went to the pet shop today and had my water tested, they said my parameters were all quite high (wasn't very specific) so now i can't get them :( ... I got my tank off of a friend and she cleaned out everything using water from the tank, so im thinking has she got rid of all the beneficial bacteria or have i done something to cause the water to be bad... Im completely lost and don't know what to do now :(. I added some of my own rocks could this be the cause of the bad parameters.... So do i need to cycle my tank?? I did a water change yesterday, should i carry on with these water changes (and could the water changes yesterday have affected the test done today)??? Should i remove my rocks and large pebbles? Should i add any beneficially chemicals to the tank to help lower the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate? If so what should i use and are they safe to use them for axolotls??? How long do you think it will be before i can have axolotls in my tank??? Im getting them from a private breeder so i need to try and sort things out asap.... I know how to take care of axolotls its just the water chemistry that's giving me problems :( So can someone please help me and if i need to cycle my tank can someone explain to me step by step and very clearly to me how to do it, i have looked online on websites and everything but i just get sooooooo confused... Again please help.. ThanksOh and the lady in the pet shop that did the test said that a 40% water change should sort the water out... I no her and she is realy into her animals and goes or went to an animal college but is she right is this all i have to do.... more

Resolved Question: Can i use large pebbles from a river in my fish (axolotls) tank (Is going to be used for axolotls NOT fish)?

I am getting a couple of axolotls in a couple of weeks but i can't use small gravel so i wanted to use some large pebbles from a river which is very clear (don't know if this makes a difference)... However if i was to get them from a river would i actually be able to put them in my tank if i was to clean them.. If so how would i go on cleaning quite a lot of pebbles as they are going to have to cover the whole of the bottom of my tank... I really want these pebbles as not only do i not have money to buy loads and i haven't actually seen any pebbles like these which i can even purchase.. I also want them because they look great, they look natural and are smooth so won't harm the axolotls skin and i think they will enjoy them as they are the perfect size and would give them a more natural environment.... The tank was going to be for fish but Axolotls have won my heart and interest... Appreciate any help and am very grateful...lol thanks for the advice but what substance would you recommended to clean the pebbles, i don't know what to use... more

Resolved Question: fish to put in a fish bowl?

hi, this might sound a bit odd but.... im looking for 12 purple fish to have in seperate bowls.... im thinking Betta fish..... this is for an event. after that evening the fish will be kept as pets in a large tank at home. can anyone suggest any other types of fish i could get? how big would the bowls need to be for the betta fish to be comfortable for 1 day? or is there anywhere i can maybe hire some fish? thanksThanks for all the answers... just to be clear, I would never do anything to cause harm either mentally or physically to an animal. The reason I asked this question is to ensure this will be okay for the fish. If there is anything that will put the animal at risk, I will not do it. Kinda get the feeling people think I see animals as ornaments that can be treated badly which is not true. That's why im asking questions and finding things out beforehand. I have had a lot of fish when I was younger. Never come across the betta fish before tho. more

Resolved Question: Tropical fish - How many hours a day does the air pump need to be on?

I recently bought a tropical fish tank which is much larger than the one I already had, and it came with an air pump. I have been turning the pump off at night. Since having the new tank, I seem to be losing lots of fish. I have tested the water and it is fine so I was wondering what else could be causing my fish to die? more

Resolved Question: What is wrong with my neon tetra?

I noticed just a few hours ago that one of my neon tetras doesn't look too good. I'm no fish expert and I can't find anything in my book or on websites to find out what's wrong (I'm useless with these kinds of researches, I need pictures to know for sure!). Description: * She appears to have a slightly curved spine and when she swims she seems to be slightly wonky and lean a little to her right (only slightly). * Her fins are not moving rapidly, but her mouth is...it looks as if she is gasping but there is plenty of oxygen in the water and none of the other fish are doing it. * The main thing I noticed was some kind of wound on her left side right above her pelvic fin. When I first noticed it it looked like a white lump with a slightly red centre. * I took her out of the water in the hope to get a better look at her only to find the white had gone leaving just a red wound and a bit of brown-ish liquid in the net. * I'm not sure if it's eating or not as it's not usual feeding time, but when I added a little in just now to see, she was uninterested. * She also seems to be sticking very close to the top of the tank most of the time and staying away from all the other fish. My dad (who seems to think he knows everything) says it's probably just a wound made by another fish. I'm pretty sure it isn't and I'm keeping my eye on her and the other fish. Unfortunately I don't have a quaranteen tank at the moment, I am currently preparing a larger tank so I can use the small one for quaranteening. I checked the water conditions and all are good. No new fish have been introduced recently to introduce any diseases or parasites. I've never seen it be bullied by any of my other fish. Here's a couple of photos: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4015/4630437938_738cc90fd0_b.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3403/4629837355_c94089e42b_b.jpg Any ideas on what's wrong with her? more

Resolved Question: What type of fish should I get?

Hi! I want a big fish to keep in my large tank. I'm not after marine; fresh water or tropical is more appropriate. I want a pretty scary looking fish! I like alligator gars but I really can't comprehend their size! What sort of fish could I have? I used to keep small schooling fish such as tetras and corydoras but now I have a big empty tank and want to fill it with one big fish as opposed to loads of little ones! Does anyone have any suggestions and/or advice on keeping larger, more ferocious fish?! Thank you! xxIts 6 foot in length. and quite high aswell....about 2-3 feet..... more

Resolved Question: Where can I buy bulk tropical fish pellets?

I have a 550 LITRE Juwel Vision Aquarium with large fishes such as oscars and an Arowana and a few tin foil barbs. My fishes go through allot of fish food a week. I currently use the high quality fish food pellet called Hikari Cichlid pellets (250grams) and it takes them less than a week to go through the bag. I consider myself a very experienced predatory tropical fish enthusiast who has 3 years ecxperience in aquatic retail. For this reason I know I am not feeding them too much, it is their demand that I am finding it hard to keep up with. The fish tank water peramters are perfect: Ammonia: 0ppm Nitrite: 0ppm Nitrate 0.5-1ppm (not overfeeding-not detrimental to fish). I would be very greatful if someone could let me know if theres a relatively good quality tropical fish PELLET food (not flake) other than the Hikari brand as it is not very cost effective (unless you know where I can buy it in bigger bulk) please let me know! Thanks!Sorry i meant juwel vision 450. The arowana is still a juvenille so it is currently perfect for this tank. The diet of the food consists of Hikari pellets being its staple diet as well as live river shrimp/ live mealworm once a week and frozen blood worm every so often so there is some varying in its diet which I did not mention before. more

Resolved Question: what type of cichlid is this?

What type of cichlid is this? what type of malawi cichlid do i have and can he/she go in a tank with 20 malawi mbuna cichlids? 10 adults and 10 young my malawi mbuna are (this is the list the seller gave me i know nothing about them!) "There are roughly 20 in number. The largest being about 3-4inches in length. There are about 10 adult fish and about 10 baby fish. I've got Pseudotropheus Polits or Polit cichlids, a few Labeotropheus Fuelleborni and some Slender Mbuna Cichlid or Pseudotropheus elongatus. These have all had young and therefore I have some baby cichlids of these types. These are rock dwellers and very territorial so require plenty of hiding places. They won't mix with other tropical fish as they are very aggressive but at the same time are beautiful to look at." are all theese fish malawi mbuna cichilds or are they a mix of diffrent cichlids? the cichlid i want to put with theese mbuna cichlids is he compatable? can i email someone a picture of him? also has his fins been damaged or does this look normal? thanks this is the fish http://stevenn21.imgur.com/all/share/8eePPthis answer doesnt help me a bit is he compatable or not!!!!! more
