My 2 yr old king charles spaniel has had a recent infestation of fleas. I have frountlined him but i think there is and will be fleas in my home. He is not aloud up stairs and does not go up stairs so that makes life easier somewhat. My downstairs however , he goes everywhere, all bar the bath room and cupboards! I only want 2 in my aquarium.CHRISTOVSKI O, first of all, clowns do well in 120l+ as long as it's not overstocked, i've seen first hand in a 60l, running for 2 years with 1 clown, snails, a shrimp and coral doing well, this has been proven in the majority of home reefs. But that wasn't the question i asked. The question was about different types. So, is that a "no" to i can't add 2 different species of clown together or introduce seperately? more

Resolved Question: Is there any reason an actinic bulb can't be used in a tropical aquarium (i.e. not marine)?

My father has a large tropical community aquarium which contains a LOT of bog wood. Despite regular water changes the water is stained with tannins from the wood. The tank is well established (3 yrs), has contained the bogwood since day one, and yet the amber colour in the water is still a problem. In fact it seems worse now than it has ever been. I'm sure the Royal Panache he has in there is compounding the problem, but he is loathed to removed him. For Fathers Day I am considering getting him an actinic light (T8 48") to go with his 3 other bulbs. Do you think this would counter the orange appearance of the tannins in the water, and are there any other problems this type of bulb could cause in a tropical setup? It may be worth mentioning that he does have a lot of plants in the tank also. Thanks for sharing knowledge if you have any!!Please, I'm not looking for remedies for the excessive tannins (obviously removing some of the bog wood, using even more carbon, and doing even more water changes). What I am asking is if an actinic bulb is added, can there be any expected problems?BTW, Python water changes arn't available in the UK but they are easily made with a few lengths of hose and a Y shaped hoselock connector. Be there done that ;) more

hi i brought a tank that doesnt have a lid so attaching a light is difficult, my granddad was going to make me a lid and attach a light but when he went to an aquarium they told him he only needs a light for plants not for the fish.... i have a 165 litre tank and am keeping a fish only salt water tank... is this true? and if not what can i do for lighting without a lid because we cant find any light fittings that can be attached to a lid... so are there any that can clip to the tank rim... baring in mind the rim is about 1 and a half cm think, and at a decent price wouldnt be bad either any advicehi i have been looking for lids before i asked my granddad to build me one and there arnt any for my tank as it is just ever so slightly too wide... by like an inch... hence why i asked him to built it... but we cant find a light that will attach to lid... and i havent just been looking half an hour i have been looking for a week, and i get my fish on the 12th providing i can get this sorted... if i go with out a lid is there something i can attach.... i saw a clip on type one but the fitting was about 2 cm to small for my rim... does anyone know of any? or maybe a free standing option that can go over the top of the tank... any ideas... i didnt think what my granddad had been told was right but thought i would check more

My partner and I have decided that we would like to get some marine fish after a trip to the aquarium to get a bigger tank for our goldfish. I have been doing some research on the internet and have decided that Clown Fish would probably be our best bet as they seem relatively easy to look after. I have researched BiOrbs and think this is the best tank for us to get. I understand that we need a kit to convert it into a marine tank. Just wondered if anyone had some advice about what I need to do in order to create a sufficent habitat for the fish to live in. How many am I best getting as I believe they prefer to be in pairs. I have recently purchased a 300 litre aquarium (for tropical fish and and may move over to marine in the late future) and I'm choosing external filtration for it. I originally requested a dealer for two Fluval 405 units, to allow for over stocking; messy livestock like plecos and large fish; possible future-proofing; and for failsafe, in case one filter may fail, slow down or block up, then at least the second filter would be enough to run the tank until the other one gets fixed. The shop dealer insisted that this would be too much for a 300 litre tank and I would be better off with two Fluval 305's instead; slowing the flow of two 405's for a 300 litre tank may damage the filter pumps. What would you recommend for my requirements, two Fluval 305's or two Fluval 405's? more

How do i decrease my ammonia in my saltwater aquarium. last week brown algae started to grow on my tank i changed 25% of the water and found it difficult to pump out the algae from the gravel. the water is crystal clear its just algae growing in the substrate and on the live rock.Im in the middle of the cycle and am looking forward to adding my first fish when my ammonia reachs 0. I started to feed the aquarium at week 3 im feeding a max of 4 hikiri marine-s pellets a day to my empty aquarium although it has a turbo and hermit crab and about 3lbs of live rock.Am i over feeding , is this why my ammonia appears as 0.25.What can i do to get it to reach 0 iv changed over from tap to RO water and change at least 10% every day or 2.Its stilll not reaching 0.HELP! more

Ok i have ordered a 60l marine BiOrb from the net ( i no its not the best tank and it aint recommened for marine fish but thats how life rolls).Anyway this is how i plan my set up when i recieve my tank.First i will open all the packaging and scrub the tank and ornaments with fresh tap water.Then i will place all my ornaments cerimic media heater etc in the tank but first i will set up the filter then i will mix the water with the salt provided i think its a cup for every 2 gallons correct me if im wrong.Then i will mix until clear water . i will then pump it slowly into the tank using the cleaner pump i purchased add some conditioner reading the label for the suitable amount to add then run everything eg. heater filter etc. and let it run for 24hrs.Then i will test for ammonia the next day with the liquid tests. i will keep testing for ammonia every day taking a sechule of my results when it finally reachs 0. i will give a test for nitrite the next day .after days of testing nitrite and writing down my results when it comes to 0 i will test for nitrate then after days of hard work i will test again and when it reachs 0 i will leave it for a day or two. I will then check the pH to make sure its at the right level for my occalris clowns .Then i will start stocking the tank with 2 clowns and a few inverts no more thn this because i no a BiOrb should have no more then i will feed them hikkari pellets twice a day a small amount and then every week i will change 1/3 of the water in the tank replacing it will fresh saltwater and pumpinjg it slowly back into the tank making sure its conditioned before i do this process. The other is that is it ok if i add fully cured or non cured live rock into my aquarium while in the middle of my cycle I will also make sure i do a fishless cycle. Is my set up Ok please make changes if you wish Oh and sorry for the really misspelled words and mistakes im rushing this as im very tired.Oh and something i forgot to add: when i mix the salt and water i should get an SG of 1.020 - 1.024 and i always forgot to say i should check the temp to make sure its between 72-78 degrees F (76 DF) more
