i've been given some tropical fish, that the owner couldn't keep in there tank, they went very helpful with the names/species of the fish. there's 2 rainbow guppies 2 guppies that are blue in colour 1 red tailed shark/fish and 1 loach, which is spotted black and white, it seems to like to stick to the walls of the tank. i currently have them at 26C and there all together in a large tank. i have some tropical food flakes and algae wafers (which seem to be pointless) there huge pellets, am i feeding them the right stuff, could be be rid of the algae wafers?? how much should i feed them, and what is the spotted and the blue fish name/species? can i keep them together?? thanks. moreResolved Question: Finally got my Tanks set-up...how does this sound?

One would thing a being with real godlike miracle working power could turn five loaves and two fishes into living Lazarus. Then again one might think a real magic philosopher's stone could turn a lump of lead into an immortal man. Perhaps a real Blue Haired Fairy could turn a clock on the wall into a marionette. IF the Pharaoh's magicians had real magic power they might a rod into a fleet of tanks. When Jesus performs a miracle he modifies a nearby person of object. Why are the mechanics of magic -like makes like- in the Bible the same as those found in superstition and folklore?skepsis : "Such "miracles" would also be disorienting and disturbing to witnesses. A person who can turn things into people could turn people into things! The conjurer's motives would be terrifyingly suspect." Reanimating corpses so they can take up food and space that belong to the living is what exactly? Are there not better ways to motivate people that fairy tale magic? Why do beings in the Bible who supposedly have real miracle working ability have the same physical limitation on their miracles-modifying one general aspect of a nearby person of object, usually not the shape- as elves and fairys and storybook magicians?Gen{19:26} Why must real miracles be as easy to animate in our minds as the storybook kind? Disorienting and disturbing to think that God would be that derivative.skepsis: “Jesus encourages people to heal, restore and feed in their own ways. “ Maybe Jesus is trying to get us drunk, defy gravity, go looking for money in fish and begin deforesting. moreResolved Question: Black Alge infestation?

My mother and I have been fighting for over fifteen days, most of those fights revolve around the issue she wanted me to get my bedroom ready for my bed to arrive and be assembled over fifteen days ago, I saved it for later, the bed never came, then the moving company said tomorrow at any hour, so I slept in the sofa (It's to soft I thought), since any time could be seven o'clock am and at that day I went to bed very late so I planed to wake up at eight thirty -ish, I woke up with the worst stiff neck EVER, The company called again in response of my mother's crappy (And don't hold on on the crap)complain about the delay, tomorrow after lunch hour at any time they said, we gave my old bed to my uncle since he needed it and the new one would come tomorrow "at any time" so I agreed to sleep else where, that night I slept on my bedroom floor only over some roughish looking sheets (It's to hard I thought), the stiff neck went away, the back pain came swerving away, at least I could move my neck at all, so I chose the floor, this went up for days, days of fights and arguments, fifteen days later they call on a Friday afternoon, We'll come tomorrow about two, That disastrous unknown fact barely meant anything to me since the "delay" if so can it be called, had taken the most negligent proportions ever, next day on Saturday I woke up by my self around eight thirty, I came out my bedroom, with not even a fake morning greeting, my paranoid filled mother came and kept and then some telling me "It's all your fault" "You did not arrange your bedroom's furniture" "Clean it up, it's filthy" "My face will fall off if they see the house like this"... Then I noticed my computer overnight downloads had something funny about them (This really stress me out), focused on addressing the download later I went to arrange my bedroom, it seemed fine to me but my mother came and basically swept literally the walls, then the floors, while screaming like there is no tomorrow, then some kid came to the front door asking for my father's lawn furniture's chairs, but I did not new this until I saw my mother with all those chairs blocking the back door saying "Help me get this chairs through the house" so I did, then god knows how we are in my room yet again fighting about the bedroom, "clean those window edges, they are so dusty" so I did, then I re-placed all that was possible to knock over, moved the trunk, the TV and the crappy desk that has been moved back and forward over the millennia, took off the fish from their tank in case the movers broke it (My poor plecostomus had to stay, he is just too big and swirly to be caught... his name is "Bring us to temptation and deliver us from evil." but I call him "Toad TV" they didn't broke the fish tank by the way) I covered up the crappy desk and the piece of furniture my fish tank rests on with sheets. So all this time we where fighting nonsense about why she was so stubborn to simply accept that this tremendous fight-over couple of weeks could have been avoided if a proper contract had been placed, I kept saying "I say we don't even take the bed, let them have it for this nonsense of a work ethic" "We should have had a proper contract, and even like this, is ridiculous the power this so called company has over us" then she said "Do you have the money" And I thought "The bed is fully priced, I... We do not have to suck their large and thick incompetence trough a straw", Then I made I face like what are you talking about?, the fight went on and on "We have to take responsibility on our already troubled home to bring this nonsense to cherry it" (I was really worked up because she wouldn't take the hint that her beloved (Or so she says) husband and my sorry ass father had been letting them just come until their bottoms itched them (Saying it directly meant complete oblivion on her part and scary threats coming from a devote (self/so)-called catholic) and she knew, just that her face was facing the other way...I was also angry because the washing machine had been broken for almost two weeks leaking almost all of its water when releasing it, then my mother would be on her knees cleaning that mess up, I seriously believe that for her husband watching her do this is fully orgasmic, and for that I despite him and hate her for letting him... self called feminist, my ass) She would respond "You are only complaining because you do not want to clean this up" then I just stood perplex to take the nonsense in "What are you talking about I would clean this window until it just fades off to prove you wrong" I would say to make her wake up and smell the Sumatra's millennia flower, "Then do it" she said, then I just lost my cool and looking like a looking saddened person said "Is it to much to ask for an ONLY FAIR contract", then she went on and on and then everything about me not wanting to do a little clean up, when she knew that from time to time I've been a clean freak(If I had told her she would had laughed at me, which would have only made me sad because I know she is loosing her memory... or so it seems, I choose to believe her but there is no actual proof about her memory loss)...Then I thought, ask her for the company's name and send them an e-mail or a fax, but she claimed she only knew what they were doing, no name, no phone (She had called them enough times to remember at least where is the number), no specific location, no nothing... later on she went to lock her self up in her bedroom so I went to take a bath, took me quite a while since my hair was tide up in an awfully hidden slipknot, when I finally came out the unassembled bed was on the back yard and no one seemed to be even around, I took a deep breath and realised I didn't know where my clothes were and went to knock my mothers door she barely opened and I said would you really open this door please, I wont talk to you trough a door crack and besides is imperative for you to come out, she would just say no, at some point she said "Go and put some clothes on" and I said "That's what I wanted to talk about"and she acted as if I had just said nothing, later on in the same struggling conversation out of thin air she says "Take this shirt and go to the dryer (Which is in the lawn where the moving man probably are) and take some pants" There were no other pants to be found and I couldn't go there so I put on my underwear and her sweat shirt and leg warmers from the laundry rooms closet, from there everything went as smoothly as I cannot remember when and little needs to be said as for a knife could have cut the indifferent tension-filled atmosphere...Later on deep in the night after a disease-full and sickening episode with my father I was telling her about a possible solution for the washing machine, she would not even give them a chance, later in the night she said "Probably I will ask" when I suggested to move the washing machine to the yard which by the way is just trough the laundry room's back door and twelve feet away from were the machine actually is...Then I told her "Okay if you wont tell me I'll just ask him why he doesn't just have it fixed" That's when the sick, weird, disturbing, lonely, deplorable truth came out... she just did not want to "upset him" (code for fear, he wont hit her but he might have as well as for that would have been far less hurting) by telling him to please demand some costumers service, or ask him to fix the washing machine because she doesn't want him to start to chicken out by going cheap (even more) on me and my brothers welfare. I just couldn't believe it... Even later on While I dined I asked her to just sit where I could see her because I didn't want to feel like eating lonely I promised her not no approach her not even talked to her, when she came I gave her a note, she wouldn't pick it up, after some time I told her "I'm not asking forgiveness in it" (And I shouldn't) it said to her to believe as it were Christmas, to believe it with all her heart (I thought it to be a happy season of calm), so she asked me why, and I told her "Well this next think wouldn't make sense" and played an Enya Christmas themed album, she just started to read the specifications for this bag of toilet paper then fell sleep with toilet paper on her hands into a REM state by the third track (she looks tranquil I thought), then by the fourth track my father came and waked her with a sentence saying like she is just waiting for him "I found this on my bed bla bla bla... now is on your bed bla bla bla... good night" when he stared talking, by her reaction I just knew "She gives a rats arse about this little thing I set up for her"... I am confused, Am I in a bizarro world scenario for a live or... What??? I just cannot tell. Thank you for taking the trouble of hearing my ... I just don't know what they are any more, I don't think I ever knew...PLEASE READ IT COMPLETELY AS FOR A FULL UNDERSTANDING IS NEEDED! moreResolved Question: need a humane alternative to vodka/clove oil for euthanizing fish- quick!?
My goldfish Floxie is in the last stages of a fungal infection I didn't recognize in time. I thought it was ich, and her cloudy eyes were a bacterial problem... I treated her for everything except what she had. Now she's miserable, and her tank mate is dead... her tail is ragged in ribbons, her skin coated in trails of white slime, her eyes completely covered in giant balls of cotton. She's blind, swimming in circles, running into the walls. She's either in tremendous pain, or unbearable discomfort. I have no faith in the all-purpose medicine I started using today... it specifies that it's most effective "at the first sign." Her tank mate died a few hours after I dosed the tank. I can't stand to see her suffering anymore. I don't think she's going to pull out of this- even if she does, she'll have a miserable quality of life; blind and alone. I need a humane way to put her out of her misery... I don't believe in flushing fish, or whacking them on the head. I would rather try the clove oil/vodka method... but I don't HAVE any clove oil or vodka. Is there any alternative substance to these two that you KNOW works? Please don't treat me like I am not caring for my fish, that is an insult to me. I tried treating it for ich and cloudy eye, which for all the world were the only diseases they looked like they had. The fungus became apparent overnight, and I was too late in treating it. I have spent $20+ on meds, and nearly a week of sleepless nights. If I didn't care, why would I want to be humane? moreResolved Question: why was i paralyzed when i woke up?

My fish is a common goldfish. He has a very red gill on his right side of the body. He is floating, head first on top of the tank. He right side of his body is not working and his fin is sticking out. HE IS NOT DEAD. I woke up this morning to see him being pushed around into the tank walls by the filter (it is quite strong). I have put him in a clear bowl with a bit of salt and some GOLD Disease Safe. He has been in this bowl about 20 Mins, and during that I have cleaned the tank. He is still in the bowl now and struggling a bit. and I repeat, HE IS NOT DEAD! I can see him moving/twitching and breathing!I'm aware he is about to die, but what can i do to reduce the pain?I have just bought some oxygenating tablets, hope this works! moreResolved Question: Do hermit crabs need salt water and additional questions?
Hi, I'm thinking about getting a hermit crab. I have a small tank that I used to use for fish. It might be about 1 and a half gallons. My dad won't let me get a bigger one because it is on a wall between my kitchen and living room, and there's no where else to put it. Besides the cage, I have some questions on hermit crabs I've been wondering about for a while. 1. Do hermit crabs need salt water in their tank? And if they do, how can I get it? 2. Every couple weeks I go on my boat with my family, and the beach we go to has lots of hermit crabs in the water. Should I take one or two, or am I just better off buying one from a pet store? 3. How often do I have to clean the tank, and how do I clean it? 4. How often do I need to wash the hermit crab, and how do I do it? Also, what type of water should I use? I heard not to use sink water. My sink has some thing called PUR that purifies the water. Is that safe? 5. What should I use for the drinking water? Bottled water, or the purified water? 6. I heard no wood chips or anything like that, and I should use sand. Do I need special sand, or just regular playsand like you use in a sandbox? 7. When I get my sand, should I wash it out? When I put the sand in the tank should it be dry, (falls apart) or moist? (sticks together) 8. Sometimes I go on vacations in the summer or near winter. The longest I've gone on a vacation would be one week. Do I need to get someone to watch my hermit crab? I heard you have to do something to the tank twice a day. 9. I saw hermit crabs at petsmart yesterday, and will probably buy one from there. But, the tanks their hermit crabs are in have woodchips. I heard the woodchips are bad because of bacteria. Is this something I should be concerned about? Will it affect the crab? Should I buy from somewhere else? 10. I heard hermit crabs can eat pretty much anything. Is there stuff they shouldn't eat? And I heard about shells for calcium. When I have hard boiled eggs or something, should I give the shells to the crab? 11. I want to hold my crab, but I am extremely afraid of it pinching me. I know I can hold my hermit crab by the shell, but I want to be able to have him walk on my hand. When having the hermit crab in my hand, is there any way to avoid it pinching me? 12. Since my tank is so small am I better off getting one, or should I get two, so they don't get lonely? Sorry I had so many questions, but there's a lot I need to know if I get a hermit crab. Thanks for any answers in advance! You don't have to answer all of the questions, just please tell me anything you know. Thanks! moreResolved Question: Do i need a tank filter?

So, I basically had him for a year and I know fish are supposed to live longer than that. I just came into my room and I was looking for him in the tank. I thought he was sitting there but only to find him lying on his side, upside down in the corner!! My fish is a guppy. He was in perfect health. He and his brothers once shared a filtered tank with my 2 koi fish. The koi fish ate all except for him. He didn't run away whenever I was near the tank. He just rose to the top because he thought I was gonna feed him. I had to go on vacation so I let my friend fish sit him. I captured him and put him in a bowl because she had no fish tank. She told me that my fish would hit the walls and did not eat his food. I'm thinking is he stressed because he's not surrounded by the koi fish!? So I got him back and put him in a new triangular shaped tank. On the first day, he was put in front of a mirror because of the the outlet and now i moved the tank to a different spot. It had no filter. and I cleaned his tank twice because some fungus thing was growing around the un eaten food. I noticed strange behavior too. 1. He just sat there on the rocks. 2. A few weeks later, he began swimming around. He had no ick or anything and I don't think he had fin rot, because he was moving his fins in weird ways. 3. He was vigorously swimming in one spot and now whenever I moved near the tank, he would swim away. Now he was scared of me! 4. On the last fews days before his death bed, he kept swimming towards the top of the tank. There was air bubbles coming from the top. I didn't see him eat, maybe once or twice and I assumed he ate when I wasn't looking. He was a bright orange color but his color was fading and he was growing pale. I'm not a pro fish owner. I didn't know the temps. When he lived with the koi, he lived in cold water which grew warm because it was heated from the sun. It's a little warm and cold in his tank. What happened!? Please help!R.I.P Jared. One of my favorite fish :( moreResolved Question: Cichlid popeye? (reposted)?
I had to repost this because I was having issues with the picture links. ok I had 2 blue ram cichlids. They were never what you'd call, active. Usually they'd be in or behind the cichlid cave and would never really emerge from their cave until the lights were off after I'd place their food in the aquarium. Then they'd swim out to eat. Well... I went out of town and put a family friend in charge of cleaning my aquariums... and needless to say when I got home my fish looked like they were only fed but the tanks were never cleaned. There was algae on the walls and gravel, there were signs of overfeeding and so on. I noticed one of my blue rams was missing... and my other one has a growth over its eye... like a cloudy bubble. I immediately did a water change, vaccumed the gravel, cleaned off the decorations, and then added Maracyn cause my first thought waz popeye. Should I be concerned of anything harmful to humans? I normally clean my tanks without wearing gloves. I've kept tanks for a long time and have never had anything worse than an ick outbreak. http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae36/Aravyndra/ normal.jpg http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae36/Aravyndra/ poppedeye.jpg (you'll have to cut and paste the links. For some reason they're not working on this site.)as for the fish that's missing... no idea what happened to it. I only see one fish swimming around... but I have not been able to find a carcass.should I be concerned that it could be fish Tuberculosis? moreResolved Question: My discus fish has just had eggs how do i ensure the hatch and what care do they need?
Has anyone got any tips on how to care for the eggs? A day to day plan would be helpful. To be honest i didn't expect my 2 discus fish to have eggs. The eggs aren't on a breeding cone they are attached to the wall of the tank. I have other fish in the tank too. The tank is pretty big so i don't think the other fish will bother the eggs. I'm really excited about this now and any help would be much appriciated! Also is this proof that i must have a male and a female discus? I know that sometime two females can spawn at the same time and the eggs won't be fertilized. My discus are taking turns though at guarding the eggs so does this mean one must be male and one must be female? moreResolved Question: What is the type of crab I see at petsmart...?
I know, its the fish section, but I see these guys at the fish wall at petsmart, and I was thinking you guys would know more about them then me:) They are no bigger than, like 1 inch. (Main point here, I have a guppy who can't eat, is EXTREMELY skinny, has a worm looking thing (doesn't move) on her top fin, has a swollen neck (it was cut open from being trapped) but is swimming fine... BUT none of my guppies or platys are picking on her which they usually do when there is a alive but sick fish... They are leaving her along right now! Point of asking this question: Should I euthanize her or not? Will she heal?) Hi, I have an EXTREMELY skinny female guppy and I am not sure if I should euthanize her or not! I was looking in my tank and noticed my female was gone... I looked all over and then I found her! Apparrently her head/body was stuck in between the breeding box and the tank wall. She somehow squeezed herself into it... I don't know how and she wasn't there when I first moved the breeding box to the tank wall! She was floating and I noticed she was still breathing... I moved the thing quickly and then she swam out from being squished. She has become EXTRA skinny, she has this worm looking thing on her top fin, she can't eat now, her neck is pretty much sut open and red/ swollen but she is still living! Surprisingly, I guess she was healthier than my other female and male because they both died recently but she lived and yet. she is SOOO skinny and unhealthy. All the other guppies steal the food from her but now today, I put some flakes right above her but she couldn't get to them, no matter HOW hard she tried. I feel really sad and bad for her because I keep thinking it's my fault I trapped her, but I wasn't! I am just not sure if she will heal and get better, so I will let her live or not... Or do what I always do if I have to: Put her in freezing cold water and leave her there, until she died completely then dig a hole and put her in it. BUT the other guppies and platys in the tank are NOT trying to eat her... The males are doing their normal thing and trying to breed with her... But my guppies and platys pick on an alive, but sick fish almost EVERY time but they are leaving her alone right now... I though I would wake up, and she would be dead, sucked onto the filter but no, she is up and swimming... HELP. Ten month old tank contained two clown fish, fire shrimp, plate coral, bubble tip anemone (small), blue mushrooms and spotted mushrooms, brain coral, another soft coral, coco worm, nassarius snails, trochus snails, nerite snails and some zoanthids. Everyone doing great. Water is perfect. change 20 to 30% every 10 days or so = check water often - daily to every other day. use marine snow once a week, feed brine shrimp and a good pellet food (not too much) etc. two weeks ago, added pepermint shrimp, helfrichi firefish goby, two blue-green chromis, two sunshine chromis, green mandarin, two emerald crabs, two blue maximus clams, elegance coral and a wall hammer coral. they all acclimated well no problems and were added to the tank. Within thirty to forty minutes one of the blue-green chromis was acting strange and the next morning he was GONE. well the other blue-green chromis was very small and took to a small cave - well 36 hours later he looked bad - laying on his side could hardly breathe (this was at night) next day - saw an emerald crab finishing the little bit that was left of him (this crab did not bother him when he was doing poorly - i saw him bump into him and keep going a couple times). Soooo now everyone is fine right? NO two days later one of the sunshine chromis (who was very small) goes missing and now the firefish goby. My water is PERFECT. So i look up the hammer coral - cause the only thing all these fish have in common is that they all hang out around that area in a cave or just in the area. Apparently they have venom and sweepers they use at night. Most literature claims they will only harm other coral, but, some literature claims they will harm coral and other animals. I brought the hammer coral to the local store and the guy said he doubted it was the coral - let him check the water. He checked the water and it IS PERFECT - he was actually amazed and now thinks maybe it was the hammer coral. We have a brand new protein skimmer that is working perfect - also. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS I DONT WANT TO FIND ANYMORE DEAD FISH THANK YOUTHE PROTEIN SKIMMER WAS ALWAYS WORKING PERFECTLY - EVEN BEFORE NEW FISH AND CORAL WERE ADDED. moreResolved Question: My fish are eating the algae off the walls of my aquarium?

Hello So i have a 10 gal. tank with one goldfish in it. He has a filter, bubble wall, gravel, all that good stuff :D Hes really active too. :) So Anyways I dont use a lid because my filter wont fit with a lid on. The water evaporates. Like 2-3 gals a week. I was wondering, Do I have to do actually take my fish out and change the water or can I just add conditioned water back in? Right now Ive been actually taking my fish out and doing all that taking water out and putting new water in. But my water just evaporates out. Can I just replace it instead of taking some out with a pitcher. I mean, That is like a 20% water change right? Also Can I add Ghost shrimp? My fish is small , about 2 inches and his mouth is super small. I think I should start off with 1 to see if he eats it right? Are there any other companions for goldfish other than, Well, other fellow goldfish? Ive heard snails are dirty? Or are they? Well any advice or goldfish companions would be helpful :) Thanks :) ~Hamster Lover <3 moreResolved Question: My dog is obsessed with my fish tank?
Shes always been abit loopy. Shes abit funny with shadows too, tries to chase them, bites them, barks at them. If theres a strange reflection of light shining on the wall she tries to catch that too. We recently bought a big fish tank and it's in our lounge. Difference with shadows and fish tanks is their not always there. The fish tank is always here. We guessed that she may watch the fish abit strangely at first but we've had the tank over a week and she stares at it all day and night, and bites the tank to 'catch the fish'. I don't really know what to do to get her to stop? Or is it just her strange personality? Abit about her: Shes around 7 or 8. Think it's 7. Shes a silver Weimeraner. moreResolved Question: Fish tank water so clear?
So my little sister has this small 1.5 gallon fish tank with a goldfish. The light is a fluorescent 13 watt bulb. And there is soo much algae on the walls you can barely see the fish. In there is an amazon sword and it's almost black/green with algae on it's leaves. She hasn't cleaned the take for 2 months or so. But the water of the tank is sparkling clear. It's so clear that you can see ecerthibg so beautifully and brightly? But I don't get how? Isn't the water supposed to be green the filter is also a mess. It's a clear filter so you can see all the algae sludge buildup in the filter and stuff. But the water is sparkling clear. Why is that? moreResolved Question: Can any fish live in a 1 gallon tank?
Came across a 1.85 gallon wall-mounted aquarium in a catalog The dimensions are 23.25" wide, 13" high and 4.5" deep. This includes the frame, so the actual size of the tank is somewhat less. No heater is included. Any suggestions or should I go with my original idea and get a conventional 10 gallon tank? Can plants survive? What about frogs that only reach an inch or so when fully grown? moreResolved Question: Can i keep any deep sea fish as pets?
By that i mean the likes of angler fish or Chimera or Dragonfish etc. I love scary, badass looking fish. Even if they are the most docile fish in the world, I just have a fascination with ugly, scary fish. Now if I had, lets say a 1000ltr tank with 5 inch walls and kept it reasonably dark and kept it pressurized. Would it be possible. By the way i'm 100% serious. I have a tropical freshwater tank that i keep 76-78 F and am looking for a fish to help clean the gravel in the tank. I already have a pleco but he stays on the walls mostly, he comes down sometimes to suck the gravel and eat his algae wafers. But i am looking for something that will hang out solely in the gravel. I have a gravel vacuum, I am just looking for something to "give me a helping hand" in between cleanings. Any suggestions? Preferably something that could be found at my local pet shop... moreResolved Question: ALL experienced pleco owners- pleco questions?help!?
okay, i have a couple questions about pleco. 1. how do they breed? males specifically? because i have a pleco and i noticed recently theres was some jelly like substance (maybe like tapioca?) on the tank walls, and now theres a TON. they dont look like eggs so im wondering if its a male trying to mate? hes in a tank by himself right now, and i have no plants or rocks at the moment because i recently had a snail overload, and havent replaced any of it yet. and 2. other than algae tabs- what do/can you feed them? i know people say greens and some even said shrimp? (also) on the back of the algae tabs bag it says one or two tabs every 2 hours- isnt that alittle excessive? honestly i dont know if im over feeding him or starving him because of an all tabs diet. and ive already been to a ton of fish sites but its all very conflicting and id rather just ask someone if they KNOW, im tired of guessing. moreResolved Question: Can anyone help me with my fish?
My black molly has been acting very strangely. For a few days, she has just been hiding in a cave in the tank. She has been eating. When she finally came out, I noticed that her eyes were a grayish white. I'm pretty sure she is blind because of the look of her eyes and she keeps bumping into walls. Also it seemed like her face had 'cracks' in it that weren't there before. She also got extremely weak and had trouble swimming. I put some water conditioner in there and she seemed to be swimming more, but the cracks and eyes stayed the same. This was all after about 2 days of being in a cave decoration which she had never gone in before. Please help! It would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for helping, but she died just seconds after I posted this. :( moreResolved Question: This ones kinda odd...?
This is odd but please try to anwser. I have an exo terra tank ment for reptiles, with two geckos, they do not eat fish and require high levels of humidity. So i was thinking of bulding a small creek like thing in the bottom of the tank and pitting a betta in it to add an extra demention to the entire set up. I know what i can and cant use for the geckos, but not so mutch for the betta. The "creek" will be about 8 inches tall 24 inches long and 8 inches wide. I have plans for a filter. What could i use for the walls? I would love for it to be able to have bends in it like a real creek but it is not a must. I also need something to seal the sides to the bottom of the tank. But mostly is this ok fot the betta and if not is there any cheapish fish that this would work for? Like i said the geckos will not mess with the fish they spend all there time off the ground in branches. It stays 75 degeres in the day and 60 at nitght if that helps. For the light the geckos have a cf bulb that gives heat and uv light for some live plants in the tank. The geckos are more or less afraid of being on the ground as a natural defence and use the glass walls as a toilet to mark there personal space. moreResolved Question: why is it that my old gold fish die when new ones come in?
It's happened at least once before. I had an episode when my fish started to die one at a time but with no apparent reason. I had 4 at the time and 2 remained. After a few weeks watching the two remaining fish, I decided to buy new ones. This was about a year ago. I then started watching that the old fish died and the new ones I bought remained. I thought that probably those two fish were still sick and had died because of that. Anyway, fast forward several months... About three weeks ago I decided to bring two new fish to the tank. The ones that remained seemed healthy and the only reason why I wanted to bring the two new is to just give it a bit more 'life' to the tank. The two that were there - Oh! By the way, all fish I'm talking about here are gold fish, anyway, then I decided to bring two new, I couldn't find ones that were about the same size (the ones I found at the pet store were about half-sized the ones I had) and the store attendant told me that there should be no problem, that the old ones should not reject or have any issues with the new fish, albeit their size. Well, I brought the new little fish, and without going into details here, I 'climatized' them first with the new tank water temperature and I also took advantage to clean the tank prior to putting the new fish. I bought this hose that cleans the tank bottom without emptying the entire tank, I used to do that actually and the guy at the pet store said that was a big mistake and suggested me to disposed of only 1/4 water in the tank by removing the waste from the bottom. I asked him what I needed and I got it. Anyway, long story short, after just a couple of days, one of the old fish started to remain in the bottom of the tank. Seemed like it was sick and then the next day it was barely ok. But this was a behaviour that lasted for just little more than a week when we decided to remove that fish and died in a separate fish bowl the day after. The remaining older fish, started to show same symtomps while the new fish had nothing that showed sickness of the sort. We didn't notice fighting for food, or chasing, or nothing, simply, that the older fish were dying. The remaining older fish died like a week after. So, that was really weird, now I am in the same situation I was a year ago when I decided to purchase the fish that now died when bringing the new ones. So I am again stuck with two small fish that most likely will grow and stay alone because I don't want to bring more fish to see this happening. I know, maybe now is the time since they've been rather recently brought, but don't want to bring more fish without first having this asked and perhaps someone can give me an idea of what's happening. This is a 10 gallon tank, and when I bought it about 3 years ago I was told that it could host up to 4 fish, I actually pushed it a little and bought 5. They lived fine for a good many months until one died, then the other, then the other until I got only 2 left. So, well, I know there may be several reasons and if anyone bothers to read my book on my story may say, it could be due to the water, the way I clean up the tank, etc., etc., and I know and would understand that, but what really puzzles me is that why my old fish, who lived there for about a year without any signs of sickness or slowing down die soon after new fish come. Again, same kind of fish, recommended by the pet store. Oh! And last thing, I used to have a couple of snails to clean up the tank walls but they also died in that death spree that happened about a year ago and never replaced them. Any ideas or anyone who's had something similar?? Thanks!!! Moris moreResolved Question: Can I have an Otto fish in my ten gallon tank?
I have a cycled, filtered and heated ten gallon tank with 3 male guppies and 1 African dwarf frog. I would love to add Otto fish or some other small type of Cory to my tank. I would like it to clean the algae of the walls, but would also supply it with algae pellets. So do you think I could have one or two in my tank? moreResolved Question: Cycling a ten gallon tank?
I'm gonna start a ten gallon tank over, and I'm planning to cycle it before I get any fish. I'm going to use my filter from before, which I used since the winter, so it SHOULD have beneficial bacteria in it. I'm probably gonna use new gravel (Eco-Complete) since I want to put live plants in it too. I'm also planning to use Bio-Spira, since I've heard good reports about them. Should I put tap water conditioner in? Will it affect the cycle? I tried to do some research but I couldn't get an exact answer, should I get live plants to begin the cycle with, because I've seen articles saying that live plants take up some of the nitrate. Oh, and an extra question My friend has green algae or something growing on his tank walls and on the rocks, what does this mean? moreVoting Question: do these colors and prints look good together?

Hi. I have set up a freshwater aquarium and I have a temperature problem. It is NOT near a heater or anything..its against an outside wall..and our house is not that warm. I have taken some water out and add new colder water to lower the temperature..but within 1 hour it goes back to 83. The fish that are going in it are; Danios, mollies, plecos, gourami and tetras Is this temp okay for them? and why is the temp not going down at all? and yes the thermometer is working fine.. Well for so long I've been pestering my mom to have my room redone, it's the exact same as it was when we moved in our house a few years ago, so I want a bit of change. Anyways, now my mom said I can get my room redone for my birthday, which is coming up in the middle of September, only I am a pretty lazy person and my room is always a mess, so my mom says it's only happening if I start to take better care of my stuff. But that's not what I'm asking about right now... See, right now my walls are... like a beige color and I have all white furniture, except for my aquarium... the stand it's on is red with black trim... And I want to paint it, but I don't know if I can paint white over such a dark color? I'm selling all my furniture and replacing it, and I plan on getting new white furniture... but I don't know, should I go with something else? I want to paint my walls yellow... and well I really don't know what else. I want to have a sort of vintage looking room, but not too themed or anything... I want it to be a room all my friends will envy! And also does anyone know how I can paint my fish tank stand and also I have very little space in my room, keep that in mind...I can really only fit a twin bed, a desk, a dresser, and maybe a small book shelf... Thanks so please a detailed answer I want to know about the bed and walls and desk and dresser, and I want to have a dresser with a mirror over it, only have the mirror separate... I want one of those fancy frilly looking oval mirrors, and links would be great, but I'm in Canada so unfortunately no Target here, I might be able to afford a couple of things, but not like, all my furniture. moreResolved Question: There is music playing in this room, what should I do?
There is music playing in this room. The music is a track named 'Music Sounds Better with You', by the band 'Stardust'. The music is coming from a twenty year old Toshiba sound system linked up with a ten year old CD player, which is in turn all linked up to two twenty year old (but still very good) speakers. One speaker, the left one, is sitting on a wardrobe just to the left of the Toshiba sound system, the CD player, and the other speaker. The Toshiba sound system is sitting in the centre of a large cabinet/cupboard storage device which is otherwise filled with strange and forgotten books about everything from DIY to the way that spirits enter the netherworld, and several old cameras. Just to the right of the cabinet/cupboard is the right speaker, which is lying on its side in order to hold up a small 10" LCD television, which is linked up to a cheap and cheerful Freeview set top box. Continuing to the right, there is a table which is laiden with plants and such. There isn't anything to the right of that except for a wall, which is mainly covered with a large window. The top slit of the window is open, and a gentle warm breeze is sifting through it. After the wall with the window, another wall begins, parralel to the wall with the Toshiba on it. There's a Futon/Sofa arrangement here, in Futon bed form, an old radio that can pick up all wavelengths, and then a large cupboard filled with trousers, vests, boots, socks, Hawaiian shirts, and boxer pants. Then there's a door, another cupboard, and a fish tank on top of the cupboard that is also holding the left speaker. Filling most of the centre of the room is the Futon bed. The music is still playing. What should I do? moreVoting Question: Why did my male betta fish die?

When I put him in the tank, he slowly got his color back, but was sleeping much more than usual. I have a 55 Gallon Tank with a mirror against back wall. I want to know what reaction my minnow-sharks have to mirrors i.e. my Bala & Roseline. Because, Bala & Roseline are schooling fish and I only have 3 of each, do you think they are tricked into thinking that there are more of them? They frequently swim next to the mirror. I know my Golden Chinese Algae Eater will occasionally ram into the mirror full force, probably thinking it is a similar species, but my Rainbow does not seem to think twice about it. Also, my pleco and pictus catfish do not interact with the mirror as well. I have a bunch of balloon mollies in another tank and when I am not feeding their big balloon bellies, they seem to love to take turns staring and swimming in front of the mirror. I'm know it ranges from species to species as my betta (in his own tank) will flare his gills when I put up a small mirror So back to the question, does anyone have advice on the sharks or fish in general in regards to the mirror? more
